You shouldn't have to plug in a properly operating 6.7 cummins for -12*.Should fire right up.

You can look at the BMP grid heater relocation kit it’s a heater element that goes in the intake horn still won’t be as strong as a stock grid heater but will help

Was not pleased with that temperature hahaha. Even my gasser was unhappy with these recent temps.

Probably should put a heater core on it I mean block heater or whatever it’s called probably be a lot better for the truck and not as hard

Sounds like 3 cylinder high idle. It’s all good.

That bio-blend crap they sell in many states doesn’t light off very well cold either. I can tell in my 7.3 Ford…lots of blue smoke on a 20-30 degree cold start that doesn’t clear up for a few minutes until the cylinders get some heat in them. Heavily winterized non-bio blend with a lot of kerosene and high cetane in it…hardly any. I have different fuel in my truck every day sometimes when I go to start it in the winter and notice a variety of cold start behavior. First thing I do is run over and look at the exhaust to see.

Question: on cold starts do you start it and let the engine automatically go into high idle when it wants to ..... Or do you start it and immediately turn on high idle ? I always did it manually to warm up .... Lately I've been turning on the engine brake and just letting it idle itself up and down EB on and off just how it wants to

Why would you take the grid heater out if you live in cold weather.

Banks Monster Ram is awesome and worth it. It replaces the stock grid heater with a high flow billet plate and uses a new coil heater. 😉

@@pddieselpower the oil is probably less of it. The truck also sounds like it might be in 3cylinder high idle. It could also be tuning. I have started my 18 and 06 plenty of times without waiting for grid heaters when it’s -10 to -15 out. Might run on 3 a few seconds and the runs fine. Both ridden hard and put up wet with tons of miles on them. 500K on the 06.

Not a great idea for any engine unless you’ve got some really thin synthetic oil in it.

All the guys amazed it started haven’t owned a Cummins guessing they are ford guys where if it gets below 60 you better be plugging it in and have a can of diesel crack on hand
