I feel that JP used to laugh and have so much more of a good time before all the debates and name calling ripped at him. He certainly holds his own, but I love seeing these earlier videos of him in his happy place helping all these people learn something. I hope he is doing well!!

Not a comment on the actual content of the video here, the way he explains the pieces on the reading list individually (first 5-10 minutes or so) is nice to hear personally; hearing him talk about what he knows about the authors and what he likes about them (e.g. Swanson and Gray) that is. I'd have a hard time explaining why but hearing a lecturer talk about the history of the fields that can be found in those pieces, the path from that point in history to the present, and hearing what fascinated and inspired them about reading those specific pieces as well as the author's overall contributions; it's the kind of listening experience that would in turn excite me to explore through those papers. It's not the kind of experience always had with educators, and it's really something when it happens. It feels like the difference between looking at a reading list as something being prescribed to me to get the necessary information for a good grade, versus something encouraged because reading it to get the information is the act of going on a journey that's both fascinating and rewarding in itself. Tl;dr love the way JP talks about reading lists, might be high on life.

I'd veered off into a different direction over the past week which made this video appealing whereas beforehand a more biologically focused title wouldn't have enticed me. And yes I see what you mean, the self-help stuff is useful for improving discipline but it can lack depth.

I love watching these. I had a geology professor who was an awesome teacher. I got a lot of enjoyment just watching him get engaged with what he was talking about. He used to close his eyes and feel the rock and get really into it. Lol I think a part of us gets joy from learning. Some more than others of course but we are so lucky these days to watch this for free. Mind blowing.

I just want to say that it is reasonable for people to assume that they are in their head. Every other part of the body can be hurt and you would still be you, even your heart. People get heart transplants these days. But if you get hit in the head you can become brain dead. Your body is alive, but you are gone. I don't see why I wouldn't consider myself inside my head / brain.

25:00 Dr Peterson's peripheral vision is apparently good to about three times the angle away from where he's looking as mine is. The point where he says he can no longer see faces appears to be about the point where I can't see anything except large sudden motions of big things.

It think it would deal with how neurons connect, it’s isn’t like a straight road to another straight road. It’s a network, so you have multiplicities of connections from one neuron. I hate to say it but consider a fourth dimension.
