    I don't think many could handle themselves with the composure that Ricky showed, not just down the stretch, but after the tournament as well. HUGE Wysocki fan. Congrats McBeast!

    I had the pleasure of watching these guys play three rounds this week, at Trojan, then Milo East, and then finally at Blue Lake on Friday. The golf I saw far exceeded my expectations, it was probably the most amazing play of any sport I've ever seen. McBeth's tap in 3 on the incredibly tough par 5 hole 17 at Blue Lake was the pinnacle of what I witnessed. It was, quite simply, the most impressive hole of golf I'll probably ever see. These KZread videos are absolutely fantastic, but even they don't do justice to the level of play taking place. The speed of their throws, the raw kinetic grandeur of it, is something you have to see live to fully appreciate. I am a solid disc golfer, with the ability to occasionally throw over 400 feet. These guys make me look like a rank beginner, it's almost like we're not even playing the same sport. Condolences to Paul Ulibarri, an awesome player and an awesome person, who played nearly flawlessly the entire tournament. He was solidly in the lead midway through round 6, to the point where I remarked to the course director "At this point, if McBeth is going to win this, Ulibarri is going to have to start making mistakes." Right after that, Mcbeth went birdie, birdie, eagle over one of the toughest stretches of the course, and suddenly Ulibarri's 6 stroke lead over him was down to just 2. It's really a shame that Ulibarri wasn't able to hold it together, ultimately finishing what must have been a devastating fourth place. Serious props to all four guys on the lead card. After Round 6 on Blue Lake, during which they went -13, -13, -12 and -10 respectively, they were a full 10 strokes ahead of the entire rest of the field. It's almost like this foursome was playing in a different division from the rest of the pros. Huge congratulations to Paul McBeth for his third consecutive title. I think this win cemented the reality that he is the best player to ever play disc golf. Climo dominated his era, but even in his prime he was nowhere near the player that Paul McBeth is. There is no one on Earth with McBeth's mixture of skills, he is impeccable in every aspect of the game. Wysocki has unbelievable talent, but he'll have to take his game to another level before he'll be able to consistently win majors. Thanks to McFlySoHigh for posting these videos, I am glad I got to thank at least one of you in person at the event!

    These 4 players separate themselves by way of having both a forehand and backhand game. These are the guys that have been able to push course record scores and tournament winning scores beyond what Climo, Shultz, and Feldberg did, because those older guys didn't (and still don't) have the complimentary forehand game. Simon Lizotte is the other guy that has the 2 way game that can and sometimes does make those older, albeit amazing, backhand players look a little outmatched in today's field. All that said, this video proves yet again that putting is what makes the difference in the end.

    That was the most intense disc golf I have ever seen in my life. Way to McFly for filming this incredible piece of disc golf history, way to go McBeth on the 3-peat, and huge props to Ricky for playing his heart out and being gracious enough to do that interview with Paul at the end of the round even though all he really wanted to do was crawl in a hole. Classy stuff guys.

    I think this is the pinnacle of what's been done in broadcasting the sport so far. Sure it's not perfect in all camera angles and such - but in capturing the drama and amazing shot-making of what was surely the highest level play in the sport so far - this video just set the bar.

    I do wish the angle on Ricky's tree hit on the last hole was a bit better, but this is classic McFly footage. Focus being on aesthetics in general: zoom in and refocus on shots from behind, tasteful inclusion of tap-ins etc only when necessary, etc. Love it or hate it, the man has a style and doesn't seem interested in anything other than refining/improving it, which in my opinion he has done with great success.

    Wow. Just wow. As a disc golf player and fan, this is beyond awesome documentation of some amazing and dramatic play to finish out the biggest competition in what has at this point become a global sport. Even if you are new to this sport or someone stumbling onto footage of something that might at first seem like just a bunch of hippies throwing frisbees in the woods, you have to appreciate this exhilarating conclusion to one of the best and most competitive finishes to a major sporting event i have ever seen. All those playoff holes, are you kidding me? Multiple watches and i still get goosebumps after some of those sudden death putts go in. Such unbelievable focus from McBeth all the way through, and that was the difference. Congrats to all competitors, especially Paul and Ricky, and thanks so much to McFly and the tourney organizers for all the hard work, keep it up fellas!

    Uli's been doing that walk putt on tour for years. If you watch the putt and slowed down, you can see he makes sure the disc releases before his right foot leaves the ground behind his lie.

  • @mercilpb

    @mercilpb

    The problem is that style of putting is virtually impossible to tell, in real time, when the release is. It's so borderline, you have no choice but to give the benefit of the doubt that the guy knows what he's doing. With Paul most of those putts are impossible to tell. If you watch him enough some of them are definitely illegal, but how can you sort it out watching him in real time during a round? I watched the putt in question a bunch of times, and even got some perfect freeze frames, and I still can't tell if he was good or not. To me that style of putting may be legal according to the way the rules are written, but betray the intent behind the rule, the "spirit of the law" so to say. Its also biomechanically completely pointless, because you're releasing the disc after the weight transfer energy comes through your body. Compare Paul's "walk put" to Feldberg's and its a night and day difference. If you're actually using the energy generated by the motion the disc will come out of your hand well before your back foot crosses the line of your lie. I'm not saying Paul is cheating or anything, just that I think that kind of putting shouldn't be allowed, and everyone would be better off in the long run if it wasn't

  • @dscjnky

    @dscjnky

    10 жыл бұрын

    in regards to the putt, two things: (1) Why would Paul (or anyone else who walk-putts) want the jarring action from their foot hitting the ground at the moment of their release? They wouldn't!!! And therefore--if you really think about it--they must release the disc before their front foot hits the ground. And (2) How many times do a standard jump putter's feet leave the ground before they release the disc? All the time!!! And therefore--if you really think about it--the walk-putt putt is probably more legal than the standard jump putt. Why doesn't anyone ever complain about jump putters?
