2014 Mazda MX-5 Miata - Redline: Review

After nearly 10 years on the market in its current generation, the 2014 Mazda Miata still offers the same lightweight, pure, and fun package the car has always been known for. Unfortunately, age may be catching up with Mazda fun little roadster, as the lack of tech features, noisy/cramped cabin, and somewhat lackluster acceleration make the car feel very old. We'd recommend sticking with lower trim and making this car as simple as possible. Be on the lookout for an all-new model for 2016.

I don't think it would make such a big difference for noise, I think it's just there to keep from having too much turbulence.

This has to be the most expressive review you ever did. Lots of personal opinions, and it even seems that you chose to make this review longer and more detailed, especially the test drive part, since you had so many things to say. You seemed more much dedicated in making this video, especially on the highway, we could see the trouble you went through when you were on the highway with the top down and literally yelling at the camera. Good job, good work and keep it up! "Imagine what the world would be if everybody drove Miatas!" Loved it!

I don't like what this person is saying in this video about the MX-5. I don't think he know what a true Roadster is. A Roadster is a fun driving car, a car that handles well. A car with low horse power, but fun to drive on back country and mountain roads. Mazda is doing a Great job with this car, just like Porsche did and doing now. You can't drive a Corvette and say it is a Roadster, it is call a Sport car. there is a big different. Oh you call it a girlie car, not true, you can see Older people,Doctors, Lawyer, and women, driving this car.

Awesome review Sofyan. It's amazing that the Miata is still an incredible success for Mazda, since it's debut in 1989 twenty-five years ago. I do however look forward to what the upcoming 2016 model will look like and hope that it can still be a success for the company. - Michael Land

There are reasons to have an automatic transmission, especially if you live in hilly areas like San Francisco, or have leg/feet issues. Besides, your right hand can be with your date! The 370z roadster has even less trunk space, 6 cubic feet versus 7 cubic feet, but the 370z has a spare tire, and the Miata has none. I see Miatas as commuter cars all the time. Easy to park and zip around traffic. Yes, even tall dudes drive them. Knew a 6'-2" coworker who owned one. If you like the car enough, you'll make it work.

I like your reviews however I have to say your off the mark in this one. I own an '09 GT-PRHT with the manual. Anyone who drives a Miata and understands what they are all about (DRIVING THE SNOT OUT OF IT) doesn't give a rats a$$ about the feel of the plastic on the dashboard, whether or not it has Bluetooth, if theBose system sounds tinny or if the doors auto-lock when you drive off. It's a drivers car. I hope they don't add too much "tech" crap to the new one cause really it's all about how it drives and that's what this car does best...8 year old design or not!! No other car can touch it for the money and the feeling it provides.

Let's be honest, bolstering on a steering wheel is a fad. The original Miata is tons of fun to drive and doesn't have an even remotely sporty steering wheel. Actually for that matter, pretty much any sports car older than early 2000's didn't have those little bolsters. Not saying that having them is a bad thing, my GTI has them and they can be nice sometimes, but I think the word "inexcusable" is a little ridiculous to use for a car without them.

People are always suggesting that somehow, Miatas are "girlie cars," "which mostly girls would want to drive," I suppose that must be because they are pretty, rather than gnarly (or ugly)? But what do we see? All but a small handful (like 2-3) of Miata videos are put up by - men. Virtually all the interest in Miatas is, in fact, by MEN! How can that possibly be a girlie car? The truth is, besides being as pretty as most women (which should appeal to anybody), Miatas are, first and foremost, great drivers' cars, a fact which supersedes all others. NO MAN SHOULD BE ASHAMED TO DRIVE ONE!

Mine is a 2nd car but I take it for groceries, etc. and can easily fit a weeks worth of groceries in the trunk with occasional 6 pack of coke sitting in the floor in passenger area. I also can fit two bikes on it along with 2 beach chairs, cooler etc. Now do I have to plan a little?... Of course, but it really can hold more than meets the eye.

I lose interest FAST when I hear someone talking about the MX5 as a "chick" car. Oddly, when I hear this "phraseology" those using it usually seem a little on the feminine side themselves. This is no "chick" car. I actually don't know a single female who owns one. But let's look at hard numbers. According to Mazda sales numbers, 3/4ths+ of buyers of the MX5 are men (as opposed to most car sales where women usually represent 50%+ of sales which means women are in a much lower ranking as buyers of the MX5. Hard numbers. The MX5 is no "chick car." Next, we have racing statistics. The MX5 is the most raced car in the world. Usually race car drivers are men, not women. I've yet to come across a real reviewer (CNet, etc) whoever question the "sexuality" of the MX5. As I noted, usually reviewers who do are notably feminine themselves which questions the agenda being pushed. I own an MX5 NC and I've previously owned large horsepower cars and expensive European cars. I find nothing feminine about the MX5. It is a modern version of the classic British roadster and a terrific vehicle to own.

Slower, unresponsive to drivers inputs, Who is driving the car anyway, an autobox shifting when it wants to, or you? Manual all the way.

If you have a bum left leg, or live in areas will steep hills, heavy traffic, a manual can be a pain. Had a guy slam into my brother-in-law's Prelude, what I would call a "front-ended" as opposed to being "rear-ended" because his vehicle with a manual rolled back downhill to slam into his car.

2006 is 170hp somehow.. its bad on gas though 30mpg highway and 24 city, its also 91 octane recommended. But you do get the full hp with the higher octane.

If you wanna buy this, you might as well go for a stick shift.... or people will tease you about driving a chic car with a auto transmission.
