I just recently went from a 2010 G37x Sedan to a 2014 Q50 3.7 AWD and I can report that Infiniti has definitely improved both the refinement and fuel economy of the VQ37VHR engine. The lighter body, sleeker body with a better drag coefficient, taller final-drive ratio, and re-worked intake & exhaust systems have not only improved the overall fuel economy but also reduced the NVH levels as well. I have been averaging about 30 mpg on the highway in my Q50 which is quite a bit better than my G37.

Thank you for this great review. It was refreshing to listen to someone who took the time to learn about the product before pretending to be an expert. Take the recent CR review. Infiniti only gave CR a Q50 Premium AWD with Nav to review. It listed for $44,000 and change. The person doing the review commented on the DAS lack of feel or feedback, and said nothing to explain the feature itself. This would have been fine if he was driving or had driven a Q50 that actually had DAS, but all they were given was a car with a solid steering column. Anyway, this was very nicely done and I look forward to watching more of your reviews.

A very good and professional review. I have driven all of these sedans mentioned in the video and my vote is also for Infiniti Q50. Interior is beautiful, technology is better, and feels very sporty and modern. Steering is also beautiful, once you get used to it and find your sweet spot, you are going to love it. Traditional drivers like me might not like it at the beginning, but it feels great after some time.

Normally I'm a TOYOTA guy, so I would always go for Lexus, but that DASH DESIGN in the Infinity Q50 is SO MUCH BETTER LOOKING than the new Lexus IS cars ! I would have to pick the Infinity just because of the nicer dash design alone. But i don't have kids, so I want to wait until they make a 2-door version of the Q50, not the old G37 design that they re-named the Q60. When the 2-door Q50 comes out (as the 2017 Q60), I will get mine with AWD. I was driving in Schomberg Ontario, doing 95 in a 70 zone, when a Q50 pulled out and passed me like I was standing still; he must have been doing at least 135 in that 70 zone when the police cruiser hiding behind the parked tranport on the side of the road turned on his flashers and raced after him, pulling him over. i was so scared, i thought that it was me who was going to get the ticket ! Lets see: 135 in a 70 zone, in Canada, that's 65 over the limit. In Canada that is a $10,000 SPEEDING TICKET, a criminal conviction for 'RECKLESS DRIVING', and a 1 month license suspension, and a towing and impounding of his car ! I think his auto insurance will be going up after that.

I miss my 2011 G37, but unfortunately priorities change sometimes. My wife just bought a 2014 BMW 328d. What a joke that car is inside. Don't get me wrong, it's exactly what she wants, which is a diesel with AWD. But when it comes to the electronics, the Germans over-engineer everything. The dash is boring, especially at night. No touch screen, many simple controls are missing, the nav maps are old as hell. Our neighborhood is 7 years old, yet you can't type our address into the nav and have it guide you there. My 2013 Ram 2500 has maps that are definitely from 2013. For $50k, the Infiniti provides WAY more than you'd ever get out of a BMW, aside from stupid pointless perks like headlight washers. In about a year, I WILL be buying/leasing a Q50. I loved my G37 that much. I've looked at the Acura, Lexus, BMW, you name it. The Q50 is the best bang for the buck.

I have a new 2014 Q50 Sport with the deluxe package which comes with the DAS Direct Adaptive Steering. My personal driving experience with the DAS is very precise steering. the vehicle steers directly with no wandering as if the vehicle has an onboard alignment system. You can also customize your personal settings for engine-transmission and steering wheel feel from light to heavy or in between. And how quick the actual front wheels move/steer to the road surface. The system is smart and better than any steering system I have owned on a vehicle from Audi BMW Acura or Lexus. When driving the Q50 and you select sport the steering wheel automatically firms/heavys up and the engine/transmission with rev match delayed up and quick downshifts. Also with the safety technology package system this Infiniti Q50 practically drives and brakes on its own. Luxury-sport, fun- fast and the best looking vehicle with 19" rims or 19" chrome rims. I really enjoy driving this vehicle more than lose of the past and present more. The Q50 also comes with automatic heated steering and automatic heated front seats...

Love the "German engineering" bullshit. A car that requires crazy high maintenance and depreciates like crazy must be engineered good right? Who wants a Japanese car that has better value, a better interior, is faster and is cheaper to attain and maintain than its competitors. - The logic of a German fanboy.

I bought mine 3 weeks ago. I got the gray Q50 premium without nav. Sticker was about $41K. I love it!!!!! It's my 2nd Infiniti. I traded my 2010 G37 coupe. I must agree with you that BMW is falling short these days. I had a 2003 and 2008 coupe which I loved but the 2013 model just looks bland. The main 2 reasons I didn't go back to BMW was the 4 cylinder and that horrible looking screen mounted on top of the dash. It just looks like it doesn't belong there.

People like us who’s owned German cars and then invested in something which is much more reliable and equally - if not more fun to drive, know better. I’m glad I owned my bimmers first; my curiosity is satisfied and I’ll likely never go back to owning German vehicles.

With the new Infiniti In touch system BT Intel computers it takes around 45 seconds from starting up the Q50 until all appts are loaded, however you can immediate start driving the Q50 you do not have to wait while vehicle is running for appts. to completely download. The appts. will load while vehicle is being driven. And if audio and/or climate control was last on, they will immediately return on upon starting vehicle. Therefore you can leave climate control and/or audio on before you shut off the Q50.

I have the IS now want to upgrade to Q50s soon. I had a Mercedes before so I totally agree that the "German engineering" crap is all BS. I used to work at a BMW dealership. I've seen people pay upward 10k for repairs which is so absurd.

Hello Zack, I'd like to say thank you for the video. A very good review. Exactly what I was looking for. I just have a quick question if you can answer: in terms of reliability, how do Infiniti cars usually hold? I heard that German cars typically have high maintenance and ownership costs. Is Infiniti better? Or in the end they are all the same? I am looking at the Q50 or a BMW 3 series. I will test drive both but reliability will be a factor in my decision. Thanks for your help.

i just bought an 18 and obviously it looks basically identical to the 2014s, its still a sharp, handsome, aggressive looking car, the worst part about it to me personally are the 2 screens they really dont have much usefulness and get sunglare and next is the lack of storage for small everyday items such as cat keys and cell phone, thr Maxima has the exact same key fob but actually has its own designated slot for it to slide it when you ar3 driving, what an engenious idea, you'd think the more prestigious Infiniti would have one too but no, nevertheless the car drive great and the all wheel drive in this 2022 new york winter has been great

SwervoLand It was in Tampa Florida, I ended up getting a Nissan Altima SL 3.5. The Infiniti was super nice though

I totally agree, especially the value of money you get what you pay for unlike the German car good cars but very expensive

Q50 or Audi a4 with virtual cockpit?

A better designed rim is needed by 2015 on the Q50. 18" rims/tires should be standard and 19"rims from the QX50 will look better on the Q50 to include available bright wheel chrome.

Very elegant. Looks larger than BMW 335 or Audi A4.

Every infiniti look bulky and larger than audi or bmw. The G35 looks even bigger for nothing.

to be fair here (and I own an infiniti g37x sedan), the infiniti reaches its 328 hp @ 7000 rpm, whereas the German cars (BMW, Audi, Mercedes) reaches their peak hp at a much lower rpm. No one drives around at 7000 rpm all the time or even most of the time.

The new C-class interior is class leading in my opinion. It can be describes as futuristic sport. I love how the Q50 looks, but I'm disappointed that Infinity shifted their focus from sport to luxury. That's why they've taken a beating in most reviews, especially when compared to the previous model year. The Q50 has lost its character. I miss that undeniable infinity engine note. Now when a Q50 passes by, it sounds like every other sedan.

Exactly how I feel man. And hell Nissan hardly makes anything fun anymore so I look to Infiniti for most of that.

19" rims doesn't make a vehicle ride harsh over inflating the air in the tire does. 19" wider tire will provide much better handling in turns. 18" tires and rims should be standard for the Q50 same as the QX50.

I like them both but the Lexus IS have ventilated seats and better rear light design, Q50 have better front design, but you can't go wrong with either.

I agree. I had the IS250 before and the steering was numb, and there were rattling noise in the cabin coming from I didn't know where, and that bugged me. Same with the Audi. Got the Q50 for a week now, and I am very happy. It feels solid and glued together. It feels more spacious than my A4 even when they pretty much have similar interior dimensions. And the Bose sound system is just plain awesome.

One of the best looking Japanese cars I have seen.. I don't think it's overpriced.. a comparably equipped BMW 335i would be way more.. like $15,000 more. I'd still take a 335, but for the money you seemingly can't go wrong with the Q50

How is reliability for the Infiniti brand? I am looking at the Lexus but that base engine of this car and price is really attractive.

+curseknight5 They're both pretty good. Nissan's VQ 3.7L V6 and 7-Speed Auto have been used for many years. In terms of mechanical reliability, both solid manufacturers. But if you're really looking for reliability, go for the Lexus; but you'll find that both are much more reliable than the Germans.
