    One of the best and most dominant Wimbledon final performances ever. And Bouchard wasn't even playing badly - but Kvitova's level was in a different stratosphere.

    The knife attack on Petra in her own home on Tuesday, December 22, 2016 was another horrible event for the year which seems will never end. Petra has vowed to work to return to the tennis tour and I believe she has the strength and will power to make that happen. I'm posting this here as this match offers a glimpse of Petra's tennis genius. Petra, you fans love you and hope for a speedy recovery.

    Sharapova vs Halep at this year Roland Garros was best of 3 too, yet it lasted more than 3 hours, little less than the men final between Djokovic and Nadal. This match was really short because Kvitova overplayed Bouchard: had it been a 3 out of 5 sets, it may have lasted only an extra 20-25 minutes from what we were seeing on the court.

  • @GathGealaich

    @GathGealaich

    Reezle Weezle What, are you arguing that excellent players who smash their opponents quickly should be paid less? Why should they be punished for having better performance? In my job, I get paid the same for the same result, and nobody asks how long it took me, that's my problem. If I did the same job in shorter time and someone said "you made it look too easy, I'm not going to pay you that much again", I'd be royally pissed off.

    @Jack Penny The media was all on the Genie hype train. Because she went deep in GS where draws opened up, she was the new chosen one. And they ignored the fact that she pretty much did nothing outside of the GS. They were saying she had a bigger upside than another rising star that year, Simona Halep. And it's quite funny now.

    Majkl743 She did, but we know the runners up is a better player than this. I really believe that they AELT&CC and WTA should make it best of 5 sets to avoid debacles like this. Kvitova who had the experience of winning in 2011 deserved to win but certainly not by such a lopsided score. A 3/5 set would enable a player more time to settle her nerves and work her way into the match.

  • @MadanRajaRock

    @MadanRajaRock

    10 жыл бұрын

    tenniscollector I agree. A best of 5 gives a little more time to the opponent to regroup. Best of 3 becomes a shootout. Not that Bouchard really looked like she had much of a chance either way. The second set was even more one sided than the first. So it wasn't as if she didn't bring her best game. Whatever she had simply wasn't enough against Kvitova. I expected her to be more tactical because she never looked like she could match Kvitova for sheer power and strokeplay. Perhaps she took Kvitova a bit lightly, thinking her usual game would be enough to win. It wasn't just that Kvitova outhit her, she was hitting behind her a lot. So Kvitova was even out thinking her, all the time.

  • @MadanRajaRock

    @MadanRajaRock

    10 жыл бұрын

    tenniscollector Also, it's time for the likes of BJK to accept that the argument that "it's not about the no. of sets" doesn't really work anymore. For 2/3 sets of women's tennis to be equal to 3/4/5 sets of men's tennis, the former has to be a lot more technical than the latter. And we know which way it is. Women's tennis needs a reality check and pretty soon. Thank God for Kvitova because it was otherwise getting boring to watch players who don't even use a variety of angles on their serve. How defensive/safe can they get!

  • @tenniscollector

    @tenniscollector

    10 жыл бұрын

    Madan Mohan Thanks. You know your tennis. For sure Petra deserves to be the champion but I just can't comprehend how a Player can go from winning six of her previous matches in straight sets but then only wins 3 games in the final! There MUST BE a 3/5 set final as there has been too many one sided womens final. 25 years ago they use to have the Virginia Slims indoor final as 3/5 sets but that stopped. At least have one at the Holy Grail of Tennis.
