2014 Chevy Cruze No Crank | TSB for the Win!
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
We have here a 2014 Chevy Cruze that had a head gasket done. It worked great for a week, but then it would not crank anymore. I had trouble getting to the problem until I found a TSB that led me straight to the issue! Hope you enjoy!

Now that was CRAZY! never thought a bad cam sensor would cause a NO CRANK! 😳 Now we need a scope capture of the signal!!

@@PineHollowAutoDiagnostics About 2 hours, including GM making me change my password. I really wish I had found that TSB right away. Some reason I couldn't find it in the list, only when I typed in no crank.
Awesome work once again! Keep ‘em coming!
You the man, nice diag!
It’s was worth it watching you
That's nuts, thanks for sharing this. Without that TSB who would be looking at cam sensors for a no crank? This could have been a pretty lengthy and frustrating diagnosis.
Very nice diagnostic

That was a cool TSB, I've never seen a cam sensor count with KOEO.. Kool Find .!!
Being a govt fleet mechanic my whole life, the shop conditions you have to go to and work in are crazy, they are always very dirty, crammed, crap scattered everywhere, and you barely have enough room to squeeze around the car and open the door and get in. Guess I'm just used to the epoxied floors, super bright lighting, everything organized, and equiptment and shop cleaned weekly to stay clean. But besides that point, great diag though, didn't see that coming

That's why I usually prefer to work outside the shop, Unless it is stuck inside or too cold.

Very interesting video! I’m also super impressed with the way you’re able to get such clean screen captures of the scan tool and pc screens. Sooo much nicer than the shakey handheld camera on other channels. What software do you use to do that?
@advancedleveldiagnostics

Thank you! On the PC, I'm using a program called RecForth to screen record. On the Scan tool, I'm using the built-in screen recorder.
I had this same problem after checking starter and battery turned out to be the 250 amp fuse on the battery
Ah progress! This is what happens when you make critical components in grass shacks..

New Sub Here, Great vid, im assuming the signal from the cam sensor was going crazy and reporting that the cam was moving when it was not (engine off) you dont come across a no crank with a faulty cam sensor normally a faulty crank sensor would cause that issue. or was the cam sensor shorted internally
@advancedleveldiagnostics
5 ай бұрын
Yes it was showing that it was moving when the key was on.
What kind of Labtop do you recommend for programming? Got to update and not trying to brake the bank. Grear video!

I use a Toughbook CF-33, I get them on eBay for $350-$500. I update the hard drive with a bigger one and make partitions for Domestic, Asian and Europe.
Not having a routine that marks the signal implausible and ignoring it so the car runs is lame. GM deserves all the bad publicity and warranty costs these kinds of failure modes cause.

hey bro.. Thanks for the heads up on that X431 Pro being on sale. I bought one and my buddy bought one and it's a pretty killer tool. On mine, everything seems to work fine, except on the first home page where there are several buttons, the: "SERVICE FUNCTION" button does not work.. Well it works, it just takes me to a blank page; where normally it would be a bunch of shortcuts of resets, etc. It looks like I can still do the functions, they are just scattered around in the software and different modules, rather than having them grouped up in a convenient menu. Are you going to make a video about this thing or a review, etc? Because I would really like to know if mine is just broken and needs repaired or if that 'service function' button just isn't supported for something this old? Can you please just open up yours and see if that 'Service Function" button in the center, near the top-- that has the wrench symbol: is working or not? Please let me know-- I really appreciate it. and thanks again for the clearance shout out.

I have a twenty fourteen chevy cruiseI have a 2014 Chevy cruise. It was driving fine. I side swiped a small pole. No damage to the engine whatsoever. I made the wrong choice and took it to a body shop and let him break it down for the frame damage. Estimate when it came back to me. It has like five codes on the dashboard service trek. And then it's what has no power. It won't go over 40 miles an hour.. Literally nothing wrong with it prior to the exterior break down and repair. Do you have any advice?
@advancedleveldiagnostics

Step 1 you have to check with a scan tool to see what the codes are.
Is that orange case just for carrying your maintainer?

With the exhaust CMP sensor unplugged at the end, would the ECM request an MIL, or does this ECM also get a position reading from a crankshaft position sensor or an intake CMP?
@advancedleveldiagnostics
5 ай бұрын
Yes, it had a circuit code for the exhaust cam sensor.
so, do you think the oil in connection has anything to do with the problem?
@advancedleveldiagnostics
5 ай бұрын
It seemed like the sensor had a slight leak, so it is very possible. I didn't see that symptom in the TSB.
I have a Cruze with this problem on it's way to me. Maybe I'm going to be replacing the exhaust CMP sensor.

@@advancedleveldiagnostics It wasn't the same issue, turned out to be a start and stall with the security light flashing. Someone put a used PCM in it, not sure why. Got the used pcm/immobilizer set up and it starts and runs fine. No codes. Hopefully it isn't back in a while with another fried PCM.
As far as repair software, which one do you prefer?

Thats crazy, something learnt very new. Cam sensor would prevent to crank the engine. So cool eh
What's more surprising, this cam problem or a Chevy Cruze making it 10 years?

Cars are getting ridicously overcomplicated with unnecessary technology. Even with a bad CMP, the car should still crank. I would love to hear why the engineers designed it this way. With older cars, you could at least get home with a bad CMP.
@advancedleveldiagnostics
5 ай бұрын
The problem is that it is not simply bad, it is giving a signal that the car is running, so The car won't crank just like it won't crank when it's actually running.
@AlanGonzalez-om4rr
5 ай бұрын
@@advancedleveldiagnosticsin such case, the ECM it's missing a check, it should not rely only on CMP counts, but in CKP too. I would even expect a dtc for out of sync if cam it's moving but crank isn't.
@bernardocisneros4402
5 ай бұрын
@@AlanGonzalez-om4rr The engineers dropped the ball on this one that's why there's a TSB. Like you said the ECM is missing a check. The ECM should compare and confirm those counts from the exhaust CMP with CKP and/or intake CMP. The computer's too dumb due to insufficient programming. Although the exhaust CMP showed counts, it also showed zero RPM. You would think there would be enough code to throw a DTC code for that. Great video though! Good learning experience.
