Let us know at the beginning what tools we’ll need. 10mm 13 mm socket extension, Phillips head and maybe a pry bar to jimmy the negative loose.

Thank you for this. I’m trying to learn more about my car. Some of the work is simple and the dealership charges way too much. They want $300+ for something that you just showed me how to do in 10 minutes. I know it will take me longer but I can definitely do it myself. Thanks again, I’ll be subscribing.

Negative battery wire SHOULD ALWAYS BE disconnected first when replacing a battery on a negative ground automotive battery system. When taking the positive battery cable off first, there is always the potential of your wrench touching some metal body or engine part and causing a dead short across the battery. When installing a new battery, the positive battery cable should be connected first, and only then should the negative cable be connected .

I have a 2015 Jeep Renegade trailhawk. I watched your video how to do the battery change etc. I did it myself. I got the mopar battery oem from the dealer. But I noticed the battery meter on the car dash reads 14.0 when the jeep is on and running. When I turn it off and just turn on the electric part the dash meter reads 12.4 as of now. So it’s losing volts. I turned on the engine again and it powers up to 14.0 again. 14.0 is what it’s usually at when it’s normal power. So is this normal for a brand new battery to do? Or is there something else wrong? I have bought three batteries so far for my Jeep since I bought it brand new in 2015. The first battery lasted 5 years. This one that went out today lasted only 3 years. One thing I noticed too is that the battery the dealer sold me today is longer. The one that went out today was smaller. Could that be why it only lasted 3 years? Has less capabilities? I don’t remember what the original battery was either smaller or bigger. I’m just trying to figure out if the battery I replaced today was still good and I need a new alternator instead or? Btw I didn’t take the car out for a test drive. I just turned it on a few times for a few minutes under my carport. I was too tired to do test drives. Could that also be why the volts are going down when I turn it off? If you think I need a new alternator is there a way I can test it to make sure that’s the problem? Thanks. Again your video helped me today to change it myself. Otherwise they would have charged me $350 to do it at the dealer which I was close to doing like last time but I saw how easy you made it look. Thanks.

Thank you very much Sir. I have a 2021 Renegade I just bought in April and didn't know how to release the strap for the battery. I thought I would have to undo a buckle or something. I saw the bolt with the nut on the side at the bottom there, but couldn't tell that it was connected to that little plate that you pulled out after removing the nut. It's kind of dark down there and the plate is painted black and doesn't look like it is a separate piece from the battery tray. Thanks for clarifying that. The rest is a cake walk for me, but it was just the strap I was wondering about. Also, the negative post terminal connector on mine is the basic old school bolt on type...no quick release clamp. I knew beforehand I could remove the positive connector with the red plate, no sweat. Anyway, I won't be needing to change the battery anytime soon, but just want to make sure I'll be ready to tackle it by myself when the time comes. Happy holidays and stay safe.

@@chuythemobilemechanic yes sir! And as per universal knowledge, we should all find something to be genuinely grateful for everyday. That is why I'm expressing my gratitude to you for your information, and to the universe for bringing me to your channel. Here's hoping that the only negative thing you experience this year is a negative covid test. Have a prosperous and joyous new year!

Glad to see I'm not the only one.. Literally couldn't get my negative off with this quick release plastic negative terminal release...(had to use puller) which was changed to a pop-off, standard bolt release after 2016.. horrible design after corrosion and age gets in there.

Never do the positive first cuz if you end up hitting the frame it could arc out and weld itself and then you got yourself a real problem.
