2013 Prius Passenger Side Low Beam Headlight Bulb Replacement (without removing bumper)
David T. Gould presents: 2013 Prius Passenger Side Headlight Bulb Replacement (without removing bumper). After initially realizing I could not reasonably reach the passenger side low beam bulb for replacement I turned on KZread self help videos for guidance. 67000+ views of video showing front bumper and body parts being removed sent me back out to the car to find another way... this video is the result. Hope it saves time for others, DTG

Just came here to say THANK YOU. I replaced all four bulbs with LED's and would never have been able to do the passenger side without moving the coolant tank. One note: I did not find it necessary to disconnect the air intake- I left that in place and could comfortably reach in. The low beam is the most difficult as a result of the immovable metal piece you can see at 2:11 and mention somewhere else in the video.
i cant believe how many times i did it without removing the coolant reservoir. this method was simple and fast...thank you
this guy is a saint, deserves more likes
Brilliant and simple way to get access to the passenger side low beam. Thanks for taking the time to record this. Only took me ten minutes to install both sides with your instructions.
Thank you so much! Changing this bulb has been such a nightmare that I was actually contemplating taking it to a shop which is insane for a headlight. Your approach is simple enough that I can do it and it solves my problem. Thank you thank you thank you!
David, I called our local Prius dealer to get the passenger bulb replaced, $90 .... I already had one so I do not remember what it cost but from start to finish it took me 8 minutes. Thank you.A senior from Florida Thanks You.

Ha... I think you replaced it quicker than me! Glad to hear video helped. Be Blessed, DTG
Very helpful. Thank you. I was able to replace the passenger side headlight bulb by just moving the coolant overflow tank. I didn’t need to move anything else. I couldn’t see it but was able to do it all by feel once the coolant overflow tank was moved out of the way. Very easy, straight forward and didn’t take much time at all. Thanks
Wow! Thank you so much for sharing. You are a God sent angel! I have struggled with this right side light headlight for soooo long with many scrapes and light bleeding after each install. This time…no more! I was able to get it done easily in 45 minutes. Just amazing! Thank you again. God bless you and your family.
Useful tip: To avoid the NEW bulb touching any surface when installing, practice inserting using the OLD bulb. Once you're comfortable handling it, install the NEW bulb.

Another useful tip: Use a glove. That way, you won't risk transferring body oil to the bulb if you don't have time practicing.
I'm getting good at this! I managed to replace a low beam bulb and the running light bulbs in just a few minutes! I must have Japanese hands because I did the whole thing without loosening any other part of the car. Your video definitely helped! One more hot tip: be sure to press firmly on the base of the release tab of the wiring housing when removing the old bulb, otherwise it won't come out.
Appreciate the time you took to make this video. I replaced an '07 bulb a few years back and it was very difficult. We now have a '13, so I'm hopeful it's a little easier. Bulbs come in tomorrow, so fingers crossed! Thanks again.
Very helpful video. I was able replace passenger side without removing anything. I guess I have a small enough hand. Just make sure to refer to the manual for how to remove bulb from socket.
Awesome! Thanks. I got the driver’s swapped out, but I was having a bear of a time with the passenger side. This made it way easier.
Dude, thank you so much. I was able to change my headlight bulb with this video! 😀
I was able to change both low beams no problems. I did remove the radiator overflow tube to get my hands more easily into the passenger side for replacement. Took all of 5 minutes.

good info. If the info here saves viewers from removing their Prius bumpers to change headlight bulbs, I look at this as a win! Thanks for the feedback.
Excellent video. It worked like a charm and saved me money and no blood. I beat the hell out of my right hand last time and I ended up melting part of the housing. Thanks much!
Thank you so much! This made the replacement a breeze on my 2013 plug-in prius. Luckily the base model has these same easy bulbs instead of the much more expensive/complex LEDs.
Thank you so much for making this video! Slightly apprehensive to do it, but this helped. I can count myself lucky that I have tiny girl hands, so I didn't have to take out the coolant reservoir. :) I found that it was easier for me to install the new bulb, and then attach the cable instead of trying to finagle the whole thing. Thanks again!
You are very good at explaining how to do it!
Thank you so much for this video! It was very helpful and it saved us a lot of money. Thanks for taking the time to make it.
I noticed that you're using "Ultra" bulbs - I tried that once, and they lasted only 6 months before burning out. (and it was a miserable bulb change, too...) After that experience, I always just use basic halogen bulbs - they seem to last 7 or 8 years. Thanks for the awesome video! Very helpful!

I have had to change bulbs... might be extra heat. I like the whiter lighting. Not Cheap. glad video helped. Be Blessed, DTG
Thank you! The video I saw before this was removing the whole front bumper and a bunch of stuff. I was gonna say hell NO.
Thank you for the awesome video. I used it tonight and it help me out big time. Thanks again 👍
Thx. I really ripped my hands up the last time I changes that bulb and was looking for a better way this time.
Thank you, your video helped me, I had installed incorrectly. After watching your video I was able to install correctly.
Thanks David. That made way more sense that getting a kid to help. ;-) It worked like a charm.

great to hear (child labor is discouraged here!)
Thanks. Good clear and easily followed advice.
Thanks dude. You just saved me a trip to the mechanic
Thanks for the video! It was a huge help. The last time, which was my first time, I had to replace the passenger side low beam I chewed the $% out of my hand doing so! This was SO much easier and faster.
Thanks, this is pretty straightforward. I'll be trying this soon. It's too bad you didn't show how to change the high beam bulb too since you went to all the trouble of getting in there
Very helpful video. Helped me get er done! Thanks!
Thanks ! Actually helleped unlike the rest!
Thanks; Keep it simple stupid is your motto, wish our coming of age youth would learn that valuable lesson. Great video!
Thank you! I hope this works for the Prius C
Good video. Philly guys always bring the best. Go birds!

Removing radiator overflow was my first thought ...Worked✓✓✓
Excellent video
Thanks for this. Passenger side low beam is a btich to screw back in!
Wow, I just got to your video just in time! I was about to have my mechanic install it for me which probably would’ve cost me $40 for labor? Anyway, anywhere I can, I’d rather do myself. I have a 2011 Prius and I bought the highest halogen Sylvania silver star ultra 2 pack - $45. Thanks man!
Great tip. Thanks!
Thanks, that really helped!
Thanks! The low beams on my 2014 Prius have always been super dim, and the bulbs burn out very quickly. Lots of complaints online about Prius dim low beams
Thanks for the garden glove idea at 3:14
Thanks dude.
Thank you for showing how to do this I could not replace mine and though I would have to take it to the dealer.
Thank you!
Thank you very much
🇺🇸 best instruction online. Thx.
thank you!
thanks for the help
This took less than 5 minutes to change both sides.....Totally easy. I wear a size large glove. No issues at all.
Should we remove the wire plug before or after we twist the headlight a quarter turn counterclockwise? Do we pull out just the bulb or will the bulb housing also pull out? Should we pull it out straight back?
Dont need to remove the tank. Just press the button to release the wire. Take the light itself out. Put the new one in. Reconnect the wire and yr done. 30seconds no tools. Just learned that a few days ago.

On the passenger's side I could not get my hand to the low beam bulb. Believe it or not, when I made this video others were making videos showing removal of the bumper cover to get to it.

@@whybuytherecom I found out though another video. It was as simple as not connecting the wire. I couldnt believe I didnt think of it on my own.
Why does Toyota make changing a light bulb so difficult! The dealer wanted $120 plus tax to change the light bulbs. 😦
@soplovesdogs100

As a former toyota technician, the advisors get commission so they want to charge you as much as possible while the technician gets less than minimum wage. I once had to replace a bulb that literally took me 2 minutes to change. The advisor charged 90 dollars (without tax or the bulb included) because it had to be "diagnosed" which isn't true.
Thank you for accidentally showing that the bulb is actually assembled and replaced as a unit. My friend needed her Prius bulb replaced and I could not remove the bulb from the housing. When she gets the replacement it would be obvious!

Did you do any video on changing 2013 Prius V from halogen to LED bulbs? I am thinking of doing mine.
😊 thanks
Thanks for the video. Low beams are H11, would you know what the high beams are

Great video. This bulb is a pain in the ass otherwise !
I order what I thought was low beams. Replaced the right side fine then to the left. Could NOT figure out why I couldn’t get it in!!! Come to find out I was trying to fit a high beam in the low beam space.
My Prius v has 2 headlights for low beam I can not figure out how to remove them. Any help appreciated
👍👍
At 2:55 do you have to press down on a lock release tab while you are turning?

Also, did you have any wires/cable connected to it? Did you have to do anything with the wires/cables?

I did not feel lock... try pressing in while turning. When re installing be sure to get all tabs in and turn till you hit stop.

I did not disconnect wires prior to removing. There is plenty of "play". Easier to disconnect and reconnect after taking out.
good job! just for next video, mount the camera so the video is not so close and shaky.
If the low beam is H11, what is The high beam code called?

this may help: based on manufacturer and year / model of your Prius: look for 9005 series high beam bulb(s) quick check on www.autozone.com/collision-body-parts-and-hardware/headlight?filters=4294946275-4294946273
I watched this and still had issues. But then I took out the third air chamber bolt, removed the air chamber completely from the car, which was easy, and that allowed me to shine a flashlight in there to see what was going on. I spent 30 minutes following this and it didn't work. Removed the third bolt and the air chamber and I had the bulb in 90 seconds.

I also tried this method and was having trouble because I couldn't see what I was doing and still didn't have much room for my hands. I'll try your method.
Attempted to do this the bolt broke off..
Whoever said take off the bumper needs to go cry their Audi tears somewhere other under a Toyota hood. Ain't no German failure to engineer things here. If my big meaty ogre mitts can reach in and twist with no tools I don't see why anyone would need to take out the coolant tank.
Is it counter clock wise for both sides? Thanks for showing and twisting to give better idea what way to move the bulb to release it
