He's got a few Stan Getz licks down. You can't argue with Stan when it comes to playin' Jazz Bossa Ala Tenor sax. He pretty much invented the genre with Tom Jobim, Elise Regina and the Gilberto Clan among others. It's interesting to study Stan's playing with the Heavy Weights of Swing and Bop, Like Coltrane, in his early years. Yet he later gravitated towards the Bossa/Latin movement and made his timeless unequaled mark. Stan had an IQ well over 260 and was in WWII with my Sax teacher in college from the Krupa Big Band. Dr. Reuben played a version on Tenor at a private coffee house gig only for his students. It was a solo of Body and Soul that still reverberates through my soul to this very day. He had the largest collection of Krupa records in the world.

I have come to think that Joan Chamorro is the greatest big-band leader there has ever been. He just grew his own band from children. It is the most stunning achievement. But to be fair, many of the arrangements are credited to others among his professional associates, such as Joan Monne.

Yes you are right Ken. Stan Getz was an icon for the Bossa Nova. The sound of this Band is so wonderful. I don´t find word to say. Just for you to know how i've got to this Band: My wife asked me to download that music that she had in mind in that morning. So i went to youtube and were looking for that and trying some new versions/arrangements for the music. When i reached this Band i couldn't go to another. They play quite great. Their brazilian accent makes their efforts to pronounce every word as something additional. A charm. I agree with you. The sixties are back again but with all techonolgy that we live today. They are Welcome! Thanks for your comments. I agree 100%! Kindest Regards from Brazil!

Salvio, your comment inspired me. I am American, taking Brazilian Portuguese lessons online, because I plan to move to and live in Brasil for at least a year. I play sax, keys, and guitar, and love Bossa, since I fell in love with it when it was popular music in the sixties. I was hoping to find some Brazilian players who want to play this fine music, along with some other styles as well. I am in my first year of Portuguese lessons (Fluenz.com) and am making good progress with the language. I have studied Brasil from KZread and Wiki, and travel sites. I hope you won't find me bad for saying that I also love the beautiful women there. It is an amazing country with so much to offer, I think, and I love the idea of blending in with the people and learning to speak the language fluently and play the music properly.

At 18, Andrea is already a superb jazz singer and instrumentalist. She is now 26 and has gone on to blaze new jazz trails with originality. Her voice is so pure and with perfect pitch, and I think she has a photographic memory. She does something rare for a jazz singer. Has little or no vibrato.

Perfect pitch and no vibrato .....+ childish voice and still she has to learn how to sing bossanovas; she is just lucky she can sing and play with super instrumentalists, particularly the pianist who is performing a rare modern jazz improvisation in a bossanova. By the way, a nice vibrato requires fine technique, no vibrato requires nothing; anyway, most of bossanova singers do not use vibrato.

It is very rare to find a woman trumpet player. She happens to be a very good trumpet player at that, such ease and versatile intonations, men or women. She also sings beautifully, and the band is a fantastic gathering of excellent musicians. What a joy to discover this channel.

Ms. Motis, even in these older videos (when you are just a kid!) your vocal phrasing is so relaxed and in the pocket! Lovely! Mr. Terraza - working that 3 note chromatic shape like a genius! I ALWAYS enjoy your playing! Scott Hamilton is in full-on Getz mode, and it's so beautiful! Bravo, All!

I have loved this tune since the mid-forties when I saw it played by Ethel Smith in the Esther Williams film Bathing Beauty. I was probably about 11 years old (I am 91 now!) but Time has not diminished my love for it. This is a brilliant version. Thank you for posting.
