KIa of St. Augustine has my 2013, with 75k on the motor. They're doing the engine replacement as I type this. They didn't know I was a mechanic and told me the motor replacement was free of charge but I needed 3150.00 in repairs. Hood insulation, 800. Full brake job with rotors, 1300.00, two new front tires for 900.00 and if I don't buy the tires from them, they said they can't test drive my car after the motor replacement because there's only 1/16 of tread and it'll be too dangerous. I politely declined and told them I'd bring them the two tires. I was blown away when the dude told me that shit. I know they gotta make money, totally. But damn, that's straight up gouging me.

Mine is getting an engine too I just can't believe you knocked it out in one day it looks like, definitely a professional thanks for the video

Curious: Do you know it it is possible to access the rod bearings without removing the engine? Can the upper oil pan be removed?

How does the motor and trans, seperate? Pretty easily?

Can the 2014 sportage 2.4 be pulled from the top without trans.?

Thanks for sharing. That was impressive. We just had the motor replaced in our 2012 Optima SX, when I started on my way home the radio shut off. It works in the accessory position and on position but when you start the car the radio shuts off. We never had any type of issues what so ever until after the engine replacement. They also did the headliner panel recall. Can you think of anything that could cause this. The radio pays for about 1.5 minutes after starting car and shuts off and won’t come back on.

If you don’t have this concern before engine replacement I will take it back and mention it. But sounds like you’re dealing with loose ground, when you’re engine is running vibration will occur then that loose cable will completely disconnected from body ground.

No problems at all before the engine was replaced and headliner plates work done. It shuts off even if you just sit in the driveway. I took it back today and they spent an hour trouble shooting and couldn’t figure it out. I’m just totally stumped.

Never reverse turn the engine, you will throw the timing off when you place the converter to plate bolts on fyi

Just started doing long blocks at the Kia dealer I’m working at. I noticed you left the exhaust manifold on when taking out and putting back in. Is this method good for all models? I normally take off the exhaust manifold, bungee it back, and remove from the top.

This method works on sorento 2.4 and optima 2.4/2.0 doesn’t work on soul, sportage and forte. Thanks.

you’re vehicle might be eligible for extended engine lifetime warranty, double check it first in your local dealership before you do any work.

And does a high idle at start have to do with the throttle body sensor?

high idle at cold start is normal, PCM command throttle plate to open slightly to enter more air in to reach normal engine temp/close loop sooner, when the conditions is met idle will dropped to normal.

I have my Kia Optima SXL 2013 same white 95k miles on it and now I listen to any little noise from my under hood space. So many ppl say that their engines blew off or turbo seized :(((

I wonder if anyone’s put a corvette c6 engine in a 2013 kia optima sxl ? That would sick !

Did this car have a recall or something? Kia approved my long block and would that be similar to this or something else?

hey there! i hope you see this. I just swapped a running engine into my 2013 SXL and now it will crank but won’t start. i determined it’s not getting spark. any ideas why that could be? do i need to prime the system or something? i’ve tried just about everything it feels like.

If you think is spark issue check your engine ground on both side.

No issue, part of the process I took the fuel fuse out so I can prime the engine oil before start it.

Dude just drop subframe, and then engine and trans with harness on an optima and its so much easier and now I can swap them in like 3 to 3 and a half hrs, full subframe sorentos just pull facia and rad support

My parts guy ordered everything I need to get this job done, I wanna say around 8 to 10 thousand dollars.

Help. 2012 Kia Optima hybrid. Was driving 80 on highway noticed it’s started to slow down with foot presses all the way on gas. Came to a stop and oil light came on and engine light . Started steaming real bad . Mechanic said engine knocked and seized . Idk wtf happened literally had no issues before and the damn engine seized out of nowhere

Is it common to pull the engine from above? Why not remove with trans from below?

You can also drop the engine off with transmission in it but I’m more comfortable pulling it out, if you pull it out you don’t have to deal with your subframe and a/c system.

Thanks to the settlement that customer probably got a new engine FREE!

Almost a month process before I got green light from Kia. And yes free engine for the customer.

I have 2013 kia optima sxl and it has 62000 miles and it just randomly shut off no warning and wont restart what are the chances the dealership will replace my engine

First thing dealer will do is bearing clearance test if piston provide clearance with in specification then they cannot replace your engine, you might dealing with something else but if the test failed dealer will replace your engine at no cost on your part.

@@cortaeyoulester4908 I am dealing with the same thing on a 2015 Optima SXL 2.0 Turbo. Mine has 140K, which is way over the warranty. The dealer found the issue to be the rod bearing and they are going to replace my engine free of cost. It did take them about 2 weeks for Kia to test and approve a new engine.

I had a come back earlier this year, I installed 2.4L engine on Kia Optima couple years back, when vehicle got towed back to our shop the engine was seized again, during my inspection I noticed no oil found from engine dipstick, oil change sticker still the one I put on when I replaced the engine, we ask customer proof of maintenance and he said I never done oil change after engine replacement, he drove 30k miles before new engine failed. That’s the only one got seized again after I replaced the engine.
