    Nice vid. You talk to yourself. So do I....LOL Replaced both front hub bearing on my 2012 Civic. Took the spindles off and the machine shop press out the old bearings...Was charged about $100 for R&R per side parts and labor . No Hyd, press at home.

    A buddy of mine has a 2014 Honda Civic that recently started making noise from the wheel bearings on the front passenger wheel. He paid some disoriented drunk 50 bucks to replace them for him and ended up with backward bearings. The repair to the damage ran him 1400 dollars in labor and parts. I can’t stress enough the importance of taking your car to a licensed professional. One bad move and you’ll break the bank. In any case, excellent work.

    Nice job! Dont know if you'll see this since the video is so old but this was super informative. Love that things went wrong to show ways around it. Are you anywhere near Champaign il? Lol I think my bearing is bad I hear a grinding noise that gets worse with accelerating and the one wheel gets hotter than the rest. Wish my car didnt have a press in :( cant find any videos either for my exact model and year but this seems to be the same set up as mine.

    Hi Nicky. Thanks for your comments. I am in Canada so not close. I did another video on an older Acura EL. I did not use a press. Best to rent a bearing tool so you can leave the hub on the car. It worth renting if you need to. kzread.info/dash/bejne/oKiamJNsmZq4oJs.html

    Did you reuse the original speed sensor? I jumped through and saw a sensor installed at the end but I didn't see the original come out. Did you get it out without damaging it, or did you drill it out like usually happens. If you got it out, what's the trick?

    That sure is a labor intensive job. I gather the wheel bearings on the 9th gen don't last too long, unfortunately. Curious: how many miles on your car before you had to replace the wheel bearing? Did you go with an OEM or aftermarket bearing? With all that work, you'd sure want to get a durable replacement! Great video, thanks.

    Thanks for your comments, was about 100,000 miles. Lots of rough roads. Used SKF bearing. Years ago they were top quality. Hope they still are.

    Great video. I saw in a torque spec manual for the Civic that there is a torque for a tie-rod end nut (40 lb ft) and a tie-rod end lock nut (32 ib ft). Are these nuts different or is it just if you want to go without the locking pin, you should torque slightly more?

  • @garysgarage2118

    @garysgarage2118

    3 жыл бұрын

    I have seen both friction locking nuts and castle nuts (with cotter pins). If you have friction nuts torque to spec. If you have castle nuts, torque them then adjust to the closest hole to line up the cotter pin. do not over tighten. It is better to go a litter loose than to overtighten and brake or strip the nut. Honda may have more than one version of part for a given model year so if you are not sure of the torque call a local Honda dealer and ask the guy at the parts counter. If you give him your serial # he should be able to give you the correct torque. and if you are using friction nuts it's recommended to replace them. Thanks for your great question. Gary

    You could hear the bearing noise when driven above 40 MPH 70KmH, then turning the steering wheel left and right the noise got louder when turning left, indicating it was the right side bearing.

    Is it OK to leave out the backing plate when reassembling?

  • @garysgarage2118

    @garysgarage2118

    It's ok if you live in the desert. The backing plate keeps water and dirt from gathering on the brakes. I added the plate after reassembling the hub. You can cut a slot so you can put in on with the hub on.

    Good Morning, I have the same vehicle. The grinding sound stops when I turn right. Can I assume that the right bearing needs to be replaced? Thank you

  • @garysgarage2118

    @garysgarage2118

    2 жыл бұрын

    That is a common tell tale of a bad bearing on the right side. If you can, jack the car up and check for play on that wheel, if you feel any its confirmed. But it can be bad and still fill tight. On an empty road steer left and right weaving back an forth. If the sound comes and goes then it's a strong indication. And yes the bad bearing noise will be opposite of the way your turning.

    Good video, thank you for making it.. Just a little constructive criticism. Your audio track of you hammering doesn't line up with the video and its very distracting, and the music track should have been lower. It definitely jazzes up the video and makes it flow better, but I had to turn up the audio to hear you and then the music was too loud and drowned you at at times.

    I'm trying to source the replacement hubs online and I'm having a hard time. I'm looking for the front set and rock auto only has assemblies listed for the rear. Otherwise ebay / amazon / autozone just have brands I'm not familiar with. (I'm just new to this anwyway) Any tips on finding stuff that's not just a cheap feeling gamble? Where could I be shopping?

    There are two different sizes of bearing for these cars. I ended up getting it from NAPA because I got the wrong one from Rock auto. May be best to choose a local supplier in case yours is different. Honda can get you the correct one by serial #. Of course it will cost more. I just recommend quality parts when doing bearings or hub assemblies
