Ross, I had the Kia Rio hatchback as a rental for 10 days. I averaged 35-36mpg. This kia is great value for money in the economy car segment. No it doesn't ride/handle as smooth as the Fit or Sonic, but those cars are higher end eco boxes imo. Nice review. btw, nice to see you back in the old school Ross "business casual".

Yeah, and I think the new Spark is made in Korea too. I think the Hyundai Accent looks a little more sexy. But I bought a 2012 Focus SfE sedan, when we got them up here in Washington state. I heard to many complain about the Elantras interior noise and tinny sounding sheet metal.
@IKhanNot12 жыл бұрын
Dang at least one person hasn't blindly jumped on the Hyundai/Kia bandwagon and I commend you for that. I want to see how the latest Kias/Hyundais (2010 and up) hold up over the next decade. If they hold up well then I'd definitely consider one. As for the people who purchased Hyundais and Kias thinking they're the best thing on the road you can't talk about longevity or reliability as of yet.

Lastly, and before you write another comment, like I said I dont hate Hyundai/Kia and I actually think they have improved a lot as a brand. Their new cars are descent in my opinion, I was simply and purely talking about misleading epa ratings. I guess the same happens in other cars but It's just that I haven't seen a review of a Hyundai where the ratings ever match.
@WesSeid12 жыл бұрын
The Rio/Accent actually has a pretty big trunk for a "subcompact." The whole car is actually pretty big for a "subcompact." Compare something like a full-size 2010 Chevy Impala next to a Rio, and I'd say a main noticeable difference is the Rio isn't as wide, so you have less elbow room inside. The Fit looks tiny compared to a Rio sedan.

Popular Mechanics got almost 50mpg at 55mph highway in an Elantra and "almost 40mpg" doing 70mph. Consumer Reports got 39mpg highway in an Elantra, and I'd have to look it up, but I think they did like 43mpg in an Accent.
@SwPiotrek12 жыл бұрын
Very nice car. I like it. But still in my opinion best in class is Fiesta.
@yoshi1892912 жыл бұрын
The Fit is clearly the class leader, but it DESPERATELY needs more fun, like multi-colored LEDs in the dash/footwells, better sound/infotainment system and a moonroof. If next generation has all that, it will crush the competition, no question.

No, usually most reviewers are able to get similar mpg numbers to the EPA numbers. But with Hyundai/Kia cars, 90% of the time, they get MUCH lower mpgs than what the EPA says they get. Thats what I mean, it just seems very odd to me.

Actually, I dont hate Hyundai/Kia, I think their new cars look pretty good, but im just stating the facts here. I'm sorry you got butt-hurt over defending a brand of cars that hasnt proven to build cars that last more than 10 years without falling apart. I have yet to see a review of a Kia/Hyundai where the cars even get close to the EPA ratings. It's up to you if you believe it or not, at the end of the day, im not gonna buy one anyway. Again, I dont hate them, but the ratings are misleading.

@Pedal2TheMetal12 жыл бұрын
Most cars meet the EPA ratings when they are driven by normal people in everyday driving. Hyundai/Kias dont. The guy from mpgomatic drives in a way to optimize fuel economy of any car, therefore he exceeds the EPA ratings most of the time. On the other hand, I have seen countless reviews where they complain of Hyundais/Kias not getting what the EPA announces, and never do I hear the same of any other car. Tsk Tsk.

Wrong! Sedans, especially ones this small, are useless. Hatchbacks are much better. The difference is magnified in the subcompact class because they need to make the most out of a small footprint. The real problem with the Fit is no sunroof.

The Rio that I drove must have been broken. Because it handled worse then my clapped out 94 astro van( work beater). And rode like sitting on skate board. The chassis on these cars seriously lacks rigidity which makes any attempt at suspension tuning futile. The interior of these cars looks good the way that any good drawing should but lacks any substance when you attempt to use it. I do like the looks but other than that the Chevy sonic is way better in every single way. Don't for a moment believe that electric power steering lags I own a cruze that "snaps back" (pulls straight after a turn) harder and faster then any rear wheel drive car that I've driven.
