Infiniti is slept on. Everyone knows about the G35/37 but the FX was the same thing with an SUV body. It's a 370Z (or in this case, a 500Z) with back seats and a cargo area. It's a shame the rest of the lineup is so dull and uninspired. The best you can say about Infiniti is that you can usually get a bargain. This FX50 looks to have aged well. I didn't know they were that rare.

Infiniti has slept on itself. It's such a shame they threw their heritage away. This is coming from a 2008 FX owner. FANTASTIC CAR, why did Infiniti give up on the brand recognition it was building? My FX is reliable, fun, and sleek. It's the best SUV for someone who loves sedans but needs the extra space. Their modern SUVs are nothing like these, the qx50 and qx55 are fantastic examples. The Q50 and Q60 are the last fun cars from Infiniti, but they're old. This kind of stuff, fun cars such as the G, Q or the FX is what Infiniti was known for, the new Infiniti is pretty unremarkable so far.

These are not bargains anymore. Because of their rarity, low mileage are going for >26k.

I have one of these fx50s, I came from an fx45. My FX50s is fully loaded, even down to the entertainment and towing package. Something cool to note - this engine wasnt originally designed for a production car, it was going to be used in an LMP3 prototype, which never came to fruition (instead using the 5.6L again). These engines have little-to-no aftermarket support, however are tuner friendly and you can get another 30hp out of them with just a tune, closer to 50hp if you do other small mods on the intake / exhaust side. Not mentioned in the video is the rear steering, included in the sport package - while not the first / only Infiniti to ever have rear steering, paired with the CDC suspension, the car definitely feels planted or "on rails" as other owners have described it. Infiniti rates the rear steering at only 1 degree, but others have found in real world testing its closer to 3. I suggest a 285 tire on this car, which makes it a bit more potent over the standard 265 tires that come with it. The car is still ~5000lbs and you dont forget that, but the suspension and torque of the engine masks the weight pretty well. All in all, even by modern standards, this vehicle is well equipped with features that were cutting edge in 2009, and some modern cars still don't have them. Real world mileage I see ~17mpg. Infiniti is a dying brand whether you like it or not: I had high hopes for the QX55 (the 'Spiritual Successor' to the FX line), however the sales numbers tells you all you need to know, which says something in one of the hottest segments. I will highly recommend the FX35, FX37 or FX50, QX70 to anyone that is thinking about it. After mine, and others, expereince with FX45, I cant recommend it over the fx35 of that era - any performance difference is incredibly small, and most higher mileage VK45 engines suffer from excessive oil consumption. Aside from that, my FX45 was rock solid as well.

I love my 2009 FX35. It has been very reliable, and it is very fun to drive. I didn't want to give up my sedan, but I needed the extra room. This was the key. It handles phenomenally, it's solid/has held up, it's flat out beautiful (and pretty uncommon). I prefer it to my husband's RX350. The 3.5 VQ has been fantastic, it's such a fun and rev happy motor. The transmission pairs up well to it. It sounds flat out amazing. The 360 camera is great, the features are nice. The only thing is the seats are pretty hard, road trips can be hard on your back. It's just a shame Infiniti is slowly cutting all ties with it's sporty heritage, the last sporty ones are the Q50-Q60, who knows if they discontinue those. The FX/QX70 and the G are the reason why Infiniti is known as it is in the first place. Fantastic review, I have been WAITING FOR THIS! Thank you for the post 🙏

I'm surprised, you didn't mention these engine were used in the Lemans LPM class 3 race cars. Also there is 2 other variant that is considered super unicorn . In 2014 the fx got renamed to qx70. That was also the last year the v8 was offered. Secondly overseas, there is another unicorn called the fx50 vettel edition. $155k new, carbon fiber everything with 420hp.

I'm mad that the guy that owned it before me basically treated it like shit and 2 years later, I'm still finding and dealing with deferred maintenance and other $$$ BS. I bought my 2010 FX50S brand new and still love driving it almost daily. It is loaded with an original sticker cost of almost $68,000.00! My first mod was to delete the resonators, which really resulted in an awesome V8 sound, think C63S AMG. The dash has a lot of cracks, which is really the only complaint I have. My other car is a 2009 Carrera S. With these two cars I feel I have the best of both worlds…hot rod SUV and an awesome classic sports car.
