    So much neglect. My 2013 pilot still looks and smells brand new with 192,000 miles on it. If you take care of your vehicle it will definitely last. I have zero issues or complaints about mine. I absolutely love it.

    2010 Pilot with over 265k miles. 1. Same problem with faux leather console and armrests. FYI: You can peel the outer layer back, leaving the cloth backing. Paint it with a couple of coats of spray paint, give it time to dry, and it buys you time and looks good. You can also disassemble them and replace with new cloth-backed vinyl. 2. Alternator quit a couple years ago. About three hours total for me to replace. Bought the serpentine belt, but did not change, as the motor mount on that side would have to be disconnected and motor lifted for clearance. 3, Replaced rear shocks when the vehicle began to fishtail at high speed after new tires installed. Much better after. 4. Intermittent A/C operation was due to a faulty relay under the hood. Easy fix. Look it up if you're having delayed cooling after activating A/C. 5. Adding engine oil is a pain: Take breather hose keepers out, swing breather hose out of the way. Use long funnel to reach oil fill hope, which is very difficult to leverage the oil cap off from. 6. Front passenger door refused to open halfway on my trip to Florida last week. What a pain to have to deal with. Bought a new locking mechanism but ultimately had to take to dealer for repair, as I cannot get the door open to replace it myself. I will probably pay the 62 bux and buy the driver's door latch while I can still get the door open. Very important to you 4WD owners: Do not EVER allow this car to be towed. It must be loaded on a flat trailer if towing becomes necessary. Front wheels on the ground will ruin transmission. Rear wheels on the ground will ruin rear diff assembly. Check your owner's manual in section on towing; it will say the same thing.

    This gen also had the axle shudder issue. Usually you would notice a shudder sensation during hard acceleration. The front axles are the problem. Also the front fans will eventually go out either causing the ac to not work or an over heat problem at idle in traffic. If you have this vehicle or want to buy this vehicle get the VCMmuzzler so it stays out of VCM mode. When the computer shuts down the rear cylinders the problem is being caused because the oil builds up because there is no spark, or combustion. Other than that they are great cars, i own a 2011 EX-L

I went to the dealership and they said to have the problem with the pistons. This is so expensive to fix, the dealership send a email to Honda company to see if they can help giving a goodwill and they will but I’m supposed to pay a deductible of the 25%of the total. Now I have to decide what to do.

    I have a 2011 EX with 95k miles... that one is an EX-L. Cylinder misfire is common if driven on highway a lot as rear cylinders deactivate with VCM. I use full synthetic oil and 5 k oil changes and no problem. My cloth interior is aging great. Honda front rotors have been junk for years. All of my Honda’s/Acura’s had rotors resurfaced by 15k miles. My dealer finally started recommending aftermarket rotors. You forgot to mention the silent recall on the front compliance bushings (getting vibration in wheel no matter how many wheel balances). Great vehicle once you deal with the initial quality issues and if maintained well.

    so a couple of problems i run into with these, one the air duct on them for the intake that links the air filter to the throttle body breaks alot during the cold months , thus causing unmetered air not calculated by the MAF sensor and end up with lower power and misfires. second is the purge control valve, they fail all the time with a p0458 to pop up. when i see that code, it is 100 percent of the time the purge control valve. and last and most expensive is the misfire these things will have. it comes down to ultimately is the piston rings on cylinders 1-3 and sometimess 4 are fouling the spark plugs. honda did offer a warranty extension but is out of phase now. if you ever run into a misfire, take it to a honda dealership, i have seen honda take care of the whole bill or partially, just depends on the mood the person that is on the other line. never run into the piston rings sticking to the cylinder.

    2012 Honda Pilot Touring with 195k miles. Here are some of the issues I ran into as well as some advice: 1. All leather interior. No issues with wear and tear. The only sign of any wear is on the middle console cover, but it's nowhere near as bad as the one in this video. 2. Rear differential fluid -- Change this often. I shoot for every 25-30k miles (book recommends every 30k). You can prob get away with every 35-40k. 3. Transmission fluid -- Change it every 40-50k miles, especially if you have AWD. Transmission repairs on AWD are exponentially higher than FWD. Don't neglect this! 4. Timing belt and spark plugs -- Change every 95-100k. Use OEM parts and change the water pump while you're in there (saves time/money) 5. The VCM (Variable Cylinder Management) -- This shuts off cylinders when ECO mode engages and can start to have issues after 150k miles. You'll notice oil running a quart or so low between oil changes. Might have an error code or check engine light. Get it reprogrammed at a dealer or consider disabling VCM with an aftermarket tuner. 6. Steering knock or clunk noise -- Hear this when turning the wheel across center traveling at low speeds. Started happening to me around 150k miles. There's a nut you can tighten at the base of the steering wheel shaft column to fix. Also consider applying some white lithium grease to that area. A respectable Honda dealership won't charge much to do this. 7. Rattle noise in the front when going over bumps -- Check the stabilizer links. When on a lift, tap with two fingers to diagnose. Recommend replacing both sides at 160-180k miles. 8. Low beam headlights stop working -- Light switch and wiring harness at the steering wheel is known to burn out on these. Mine went out at 190k miles. 9. Shocks and Struts -- Needed replaced at 160k miles on my Pilot Don't let these scare you away if you are considering buying one used. A lot of these issues will hit between 150-180k miles, but once you're past that hump, you're in good shape until the transmission needs rebuilt. Overall, these are extremely reliable SUVs!

  • @RaiderZone

    @RaiderZone

    Жыл бұрын

    @@MrGeek847 $15k sounds a little high to me, but then again in today's market, maybe that's not so bad. 137k miles for a 2012 is pretty low. Should at least get another 30-40k miles before having to do suspension work. As for spark plugs, they must have been replaced by now, or it would be noticeably "missing" when idling. If you have any friends that are mechanics, see if one will check it out for you before buying. The 2012 Pilot Touring is a solid vehicle, and I'd buy it all over again...no regrets!

    I had a problem with the cylinder cutout system where it would loose power and run rough, It would also cause cylinders to pump the oil out of the engine. I had checked oil after an oil change and within 100 miles the check engine light came on hand there was no oil on the dipstick. I bypassed that system with a microprocessor on the temp sensor meant to do just that. Cylinder 3 lost the igniter. I am going to suggest changing the plug whenever changing a coil. The car jack it came with won’t push the car up high enough to change the tire. I bought the one they use on An f150, that does it easily.

    Add to this video that the engine/transmission cooling design is flawed and after 100k is prone to failure when engine coolant mixes with transmission fluid, which results in the need for a full transmission replacement which can be way more than the value of the car. Honda is aware.

    I have the same model for 5 years. My armrests don't look like that. Many vehicles have their own unique issues, though so far, the 2012 Pilot is not bad, just a few things here and there that may be an annoyance.

    Hickok 22 its not the lug nuts. It turns out that Honda has this problem spread across and the problem is hard braking. The front disc warps because the disc brakes aren’t the right diameter. We resolved it by buying ported brakes like they use on racing cars. It dissipates heat a lot better and we no longer have the shudder.

    Too late. Once the damage is done it's irreversible. Better luck next time. Insist that the tire people follow the right torque recommendation. Be there to watch them do it. Also, the drilled and slotted rotors might be better for this vehicle. Check Amazon for PowerStop kits. such as www.amazon.com/K5369-Evolution-Drilled-Slotted-Ceramic/dp/B00AN5S1BW/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1546549136&sr=1-1-spons&keywords=Power+Stop+K5369+Front+and+Rear+Z23&psc=1

    I’ve been in the market for one of these 2010-2011 and noticed the issues with the console and door armrests are common...poorly manufactured and poor quality - seems to be common with most Honda’s as they age. Not enthusiastic about the mechanical issues you’ve cited and to see some comments indicate they’ve shared your issues too. Maybe will need to reconsider the 4Runner afterall.

I bet if they actually did more than just paid places to service their cars and instead fixed crap themselves they would remember all the crap they had to fix. What no lower control arm leakage after 200,000 miles? yeah right. No door mode actuator knocking? No problems with the ECM fouling up the plugs? I highly doubt any honda can make it to 200,000 miles with just oil changes.
