2012 GMC Sierra 3.42 to 4.10 Gearing Swap

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Finally got the new gearing installed and the results are quite impressive. The truck has the Flex Fuel 5.3L. It definitely has more get up and go plus I'm still getting around 14.7 MPG which is what it was at before.

    Dirty Martino not positive. I just had all them done with new calipers and lines, but it used to lay rubber before I had to replace the engine. After that it won’t break traction unless the road has a wet spot.

    I went from 3.23 to 3.73 on my 05. It’s a 4 speed auto too. I couldve went 410 since the different between 3.73 and 4.10 us only 200 rpm but I’m happy with 3.73. I just talked my buddy with your same truck to gear swap to 4.10. He Tows a 26’ toy hauler with 3.42 gears and he said it struggles.

    Hey man Nice win! If your main concern is burnouts though look into a line locker it will save your rear breaks. It hooks up to your breaks so when you press them then hit the switch and release it will hold just the front ones!

    In 2003 all Ls engines come with drive by wire, when you stomp the gas pedal to the floor the computer will not open the throttle wide open immediately. The idea is safety, it will prevent you from loosing traction on slick or wet surfaces. It works like the ABS system only in reverse so you can not lock up the brakes and loose traction when stopping.

    To everyone saying I gave up 4WD for good: I had the front regeared too so now 4WD works again. I could only afford to do the rear during the time of the video. The shop recommend that I don't do both at the same time anyway in case I didn't like it. Thought I'd comment this too since apparently the annotation isn't visible to some users.

    mncarguy I'm only 17 and plan on buying a 2009 Silverado. first question is besides the burnouts what will the gear ratio change like mpg or stuff. second is if I get both front and back at 4.10 I will still have 4wd no warning lights on dash or anything.

    Playdowstare zeyoutuber I lost maybe 1 mpg after getting them put in. It sits around 2200 rpm when cruising at 75 mph and it tows stuff much better now. There won't be any warning lights on the dash or anything. Only thing you need to do after installation is have your speedometer recalibrated. I still have no regrets of having mine replaced.

    Ok so I have an 05 Tahoe 5.3, my truck has a problem either the same or similar to this, so when I try to burnout i have too like press half gas and if I gun the throttle is Boggs down a lot and doesn't have any power or torque, same for when I gun it for a race or whatever i have to keep the peddle at half until like 25 mph or it will bogg down and be really slow. People are telling me it's the torque converter. Any ideas?

  • @mncarguy

    @mncarguy

    6 жыл бұрын

    There's a few things. It could be the low stall of the stock torque converter, your rear brakes could be too strong or your truck just doesn't have enough power. Your best bet would be finding someone with an HP tuner and have the torque management dialed back or completely disabled. Hope that helps. Let me know if you figure anything out. I had a cammed 6.2L swapped in last year along with a 3000 stall converter. It has so much power that the tires will spin even with traction control on. I'll be doing a supercharger next and it's gonna be fast as hell lol

    He is clearly hitting the brakes too hard. I've been on a lot of trucks and a lot of guys trying to do burnouts and let me tell you the Ls 5.3 has got plenty of power to burn them with any ratio in the back that came from factory. But if you pin the brake pedal to the carpet it's going to more difficult to get them going on dry pavement and a lot more stress on all your drivetrain parts and brakes.

    okay.... I would "bullshit" about something like that. no its true it doesn't take as much power to turn the wheels to get them speed. what does it take to make power? energy. whats is energy in a vehicle? gas you use less gas to turn the wheels. in all you get better fuel mileage. also the transmissions in these trucks have really high gears. I can do 80 wih 4:88 gears and 35s at 2700 rpms. you gotta think we also have converter lockup. my truck has a 4l60e. his probably has a 6l60e with ould make his 1st gar lower then mine. Hey man I have 4.8 2005 sierra I think I have the same issue as your video I don't have trac or stab control as features on my truck, and it does not go passed 2000 rmps do you think I would need to upgrade gears like you did in order to get it to burn out? I also seen the video before this on how your truck wouldn't go passed 2k rmps.

    I'd see about getting a decent tune done by a performance shop if I were you. Or if you're really serious, invest in a better torque converter. Something with like a 2800 stall. That'd really wake it up. Either of those options would cost less than regearing it. Unless yours is only 2 wheel drive..

    Denali's come stock with 4.10 gearing so that high of gearing shouldn't intimidate anyone. My truck sits at 1800 rpm when I'm doing 70 mph on the highway and I still get around 11 mpg with e85. I can even go 125 mph if I want to. So they're very streetable.

    Steve Duval. My thoughts exactly . these guys dont use the line lock anymore when i was a kid i had line locls and mffler cutouts valves on every car . we would pull to a stop set line locls to bypass rear brakes then pull a lever in front of seat to allow exhaust to dump 4" away from cat it would cause anyoneto turn and watch within a 1/4 as id blow a weeks pay smoldering tires while feathering the front brakes with my left foot. Wow i feel 18 again just talking about it. Simple things to do and both for under $300 maybe 5 or 600 now but at beats tuning re gearing and still setting rear brakes on fire
