    Thanks man, I had to do this today. You made it super easy to find. I bought the sensor, jack and jack stands for probably 1/4 what the dealership would have charged me haha

    I just replaced this on my 2012 Avenger. I never actually saw the hole the sensor went in, but was able to feel around enough to locate everything due to the great video. I wasn't able to remove the wiring harness with one hand from below, but I pushed it up through the engine compartment after removing it where I was able to use two hands from above. This video saved me a trip to a mechanic$$.

    Thank you so much for this video!!! My 2012 Journey's engine just started shutting off yesterday while driving (scary as hell) and Auto Zone pulled this code for me. We're going to pick up the part and try this ourselves.

    thanks for posting this video! I'm about to do this to my wife's journey. I'm assuming you cleared the code before or upon completion. Did the new sensor solve the problem?

  • @alfredhall9000

    @alfredhall9000

    7 жыл бұрын

    Yes, changing the sensor solved the problem. I did not clear the code because after changing the sensor the check engine light no longer came on (so I test drove it after changing the sensor and it came on, but by the next day the light was off and has not come back on since). I hope this helps.

    Yes, I suppose it can be reached from the top as well. I did not see a video on KZread for the location of the crank sensor for this vehicle so I just wanted to put this out there to hopefully help people. I just watched it again and realized I did not put where I bought it, how much it cost, and a good picture of what the sensor looks like. I bought my replacement at AutoZone for $12.99. The part was Duralast Crankshaft Position Sensor # SU8488 and it has a Limited Lifetime Warranty. Well, I would like to thank you for your comment and I’m glad you were able to change it out with no problems.

    Hi, im having the same issue, my Dodge Journey also has a "long crank" issue (the engine takes more crank over than ussual to start) from time to time, did yours had the same issue?

  • @alfredhall9000

    @alfredhall9000

    The Dodge Journey that I changed the crank sensor on did not take longer than normal to start. Do you have a check engine light on? If you do, go to AutoZone or any parts store that pulls diagnostic codes off your vehicle's computer and see what advice they might give you. You could have something other than a crank sensor issue. Like your starter, battery, alternator, or maybe just a tune-up. I hope this comment helps.

    I replaced like 3 months ago,and I am having the same problem again it is popossible that the sensor gets bad to soon?

  • @alfredhall9000

    @alfredhall9000

    4 жыл бұрын

    It is not normal for the sensor to go bad that soon after replacing it. It is possible that the sensor you purchased was defective. You should be able to take it back to where you purchased it and swap it out for a new one.

    If you buy a MOPAR sensor from the dealership for $26 it will re-learn itself and last for years. If you buy from AutoZone or any aftermarket it will last from 3 months to one year. Bring the last six digits of your VIN number with you to the dealer because there are about five different crank sensors they offer for Journeys. This will guarantee it is the right one for your car.
