Thanks for the video. Any update on the lifter issue? It's a fairly common problem on these Pentastars, especially the early builds. The owner should definitely heard a lifter tick prior to purchase.

Unfortunately there's no update on the lifter issue. The customer purchased the car not knowing much about it or cars in general and doesn't know whether he wants to fix it so currently there is no video in the pipeline. Surprisingly his engine wasn't too loud. But it did have a bit of a misfire that was mainly corrected by replacing the spark plugs.

Hi guys! Can anyone help out? I’m looking to buy a 2014 dodge caravan with 118km from a Honda dealership. Sales rep noted that it has an oil pan leak & a rear valve cover gasket leak there going to be fixing after pre purchase, is this something I should be concerned about? or is it normal? Thank any help would be much appreciated!❤

The needle bearings in the oil pan are from the rocker arms. Very common. The engine probably ticks a little while it's running. The rocker arms need to be replaced before the camshafts get worn.

There's a chance the rocker arms were replaced, but the needle bearings were never cleaned out of the oil pan. It's very common.

Yes you are 100% right as I found out later I don't usually deal with too many Caravans because well I like small Japanese cars but I have a couple now that I maintaining that are newer with the 3.6 and so far no ticking. Unfortunately this one got so so there is not going to be repair video in the future so far but things change. Thank you for the information I appreciate it.

Yes you're 100% right again LOL unfortunately most mechanics won't go the extra mile and in this case unless they're small enough to get into the strainer which I don't think they are won't really make a difference. Unless you have so many that they plug up the strainer. Thank you for the information I appreciate it.

Great video! Question - Is there no fitted gasket for the 3.6 c/v oil pan? I only use the gasket maker? Thanks

Hey david, thanks for the compliment. Is there may be a fitted gasket available aftermarket but as far as I know all of the original pans that I have done so far have just been held on by silicone. Just make sure you get the correct silicone otherwise known as gasket maker and make sure you don't put too much on or too little it's just got to be the right amount. Good luck my friend.

@@JimmysAutoClinic Thanks Jim! I went ahead used just the gasket maker and not one drip of oil after a 30 minute drive. Thank you! btw - my old oil pan was just as crispy as the one in your video. All that New Hampshire road salt.

So sad for the owner. I hope they can take it back to the place they purchased it from but being a 2012 I am guessing that is not a big dealer. That is my first-time seeing parts that big in an oil pan and the engine was still running. If you find out where the rollers came from it would be very interesting.

Hey, unfortunately it was a private purchase so the customer is basically stuck with it. Of course he didn't have much knowledge of what to look for or what he was potentially buying. Lesson learned for sure on his end. For my research it looks like it is a common issue and it is a sign that the roller bearings or needles from the rocker arms are disintegrating and falling out. Luckily they make their way into the oil pan relatively whole and it doesn't seem to do too much damage to the rest of the engines so yay. Unfortunately the repair is quite extensive as well as expensive. Hopefully if he decides to fix it they'll be a video in the pipeline of me doing that. Thank you for watching don't forget to hit that subscribe button.

hello , nice vidéo. Do you know the size and the thread of the bolts ? maybe there is a way to buy then cheaper 😅

  • @JimmysAutoClinic

    @JimmysAutoClinic

Yes the size of a bolt is an M6 x 1 thread pitch. Unfortunately I don't know where you can buy them cheaper. I would recommend getting the dealer bolts just because you know what's going to be the right stuff. You don't want to get bolts that are too long or Too Short or not the right size washer it will make your life really miserable. And I don't remember them being really expensive. Good luck.

Did you just use silicone or a cork/rubber gasket as well? Thanks

  • @JimmysAutoClinic

Silicone was the only thing that was used factory and that's exactly what I used. I did not use anything else.

🤢 that oil pan screams "put me out my misery!" How can that happen and nothing else under there look as bad? You were scraping chunks off and oil was dripping from them. Where was this van from to get so rusty. After finishing watching want to ask why you chose RTV instead of the gasket made for it?

Hey, this fan spent its life in the Rust Belt in Ontario canada. I don't know predominantly where it's been to this life in terms of what city but the reason why it looks like that is just because the material that Dodge uses isn't really the best and because it is exposed to salt and the paint of course chips away relatively easy you end up with a horrible looking pan. This everything is actually quite common in ontario. The reason why I went with silicone instead of a gasket is because the original pan did not have a gasket. Often times now because silicone is made quite well putting in a gasket afterwards if it wasn't originally used by the dealer is usually a bad idea that will lead to a leak. Unless you get a really high quality gasket. In my opinion it's always best to do what the manufacturer did originally with a quality product. I hope that helps you. If you have any other questions feel free to reach out.

Pathetic they make these things so cheap, I've only had oil pans rot off Mopar Vehicles. No more MOPAR for me. The 2012 T&C is it.

I hear you. It is really unfortunate that they make such poor quality stuff sometimes. If they just put a little bit more time and effort into quality of their vehicles wouldn't be half as bad. Yes I know everything rods and has issues but not nearly as bad as I find Chrysler products.
