This is one of the most helpful video to replace the front strut. It's very helpful to pry both the lower control arm and spring (can have another extra inch) at the same time. Also very helpful to know don't have to compress the spring for removal. I usually compressed the spring so it's a lot easier to take the assembly out. Anyway, just did it on a 2012 A7 this afternoon, it worked.

It's interesting that most all the comments are from know it alls who can do it better. The information given here was extremely helpful for me. I didn't do the job myself but helped me understand the job that needed to be done(and costed). Interesting that my springs too, failed on the drive. Thank you for the video.

My 2014 A7 just dropped on the drivers side after a medium sized speed bump today. Fantastic video for how to bypass the stuck aluminum bolt issue. I will try the bolt first then resort to this method if needed. The preloaded option is good for me as my A7 has 300,000km and has the heavier diesel on it. Tired components. May as well take precaution.

Can you give an update on how the Strut Assembly is holding up? Not sure if I should go with FCS / Unity Automotive or spend extra and just get a full Coilover set from solowerks.

Need to preload the suspension before tightening guys or the bushes will be under constant stress under normal ride height reducing their lifespan.

Brian, Opted to buy a preloaded strut to help save time during assembly and the older strut assembly has a few miles on it. If you're doing the job yourself it's easier to buy a loaded strut instead of having to compress the old spring, swap the old spring over to the new strut assembly. If you have a mechanic do the repair ask yourself how long is it going to take the mechanic to swap the old spring over and how much will it cost. You may find that for the amount of time it takes to swap the old spring, the cost of a completely new assembly gets absorbed and you have a completely new part. Hope this hopes to shed light on your question.
