2011 Dodge Ram 1500 Tapping Start Up Noise Update | How To Fix Ram 1500 Start Up Noise

Hey KZread! made a quick video of how the old 2011 ram Hemi is doing after experiencing the tapping/loud ticking noises a couple years ago.
Here's a link to the oil that fixed my tapping noise

@@McGo101 yep same here dude I was using Mobil 1 and got so much chatter and knock. After your video and reading on mopar website and some forums I changed the oil again to ultra platinum and ALL that noise from the motor vanished! I’ve only had the truck for a week and a half and I like it so very much, so I’m very very thankful for people like you out there helping out 👍 oh I also used the recommended mopar filter too

I'm gonna have to try out some Ultra platinum oil. One bearing in one of the lifter rollers was starting to pile up in mine. You could hear it chirping at idle. Caught it well before it took out the camshaft. Replaced all the lifters. Soaked lifters overnight in new oil. Did everything by the book, new head bolts etc...torqued to spec. Didn't run into any problems. Filled engine with some cheaper 5w20 full synth with a wix filter. Once all lifters were pumped up truck was quiet until it got warm...Then it started to have a faint but noticeable tick. I changed the oil and tried some Castrol edge 5w20(it was on sale)....Same thing, truck is quiet until temp gauge show's about 1/4 then it gets noisy. It's not the exhaust manifolds, I already double checked and I replaced both of them last month when the 2 rearmost bolts broke off both sides. The exhaust leak caused a cold tick that'd go away or quiet down when it was warm. Now it's got a noise when it's 1/4- full temp. Sounds like it's coming from both sides. No engine light, engine runs smooth but has faint clatter at warm to hot idle. The new lifters only have about 250km on them. Can fire it up now and it's silent when cold (in garage about 10c). 5 mins later it starts slowly starts to tick. I read on the forums that tons of people swear by redline oil but theirs also a bunch of people who also swear that a fancy oil filter will fix it too. I'm open to options before tearing the heads back off this thing only to find nothing wrong.

Hmm what year is the truck and how many kms were on it when u did the cam? Did u replace lifters with brand new ones? The noise ur describing sounds exactly like my first vid where i was using castrol edge full synthetic as well because it was on sale... switched to the Pennzoil ultra platinum and the synthetic oil filter from fram and my noise went away within a day or 2. Def worth a shot. I failed to realize the castrol edge full synthetic is not formulated for our 5.7 hemi's. Simple error to make, hope thats all she is on ur end. GL. Keep us posted

@@McGo101 Yeah it sounds similar to your first vijeo for sure. You can here the noise on the one I have from the top too. Sounds like the lf corner and rh rear. Sounds loudest through the wheel wells. It's a 2013 with 178k kms. Lifters were new non-mopar though. I can't recall the name, wasn't enginetech though. Truck was only drive maybe 200kms since lifters were replaced. I was hoping to catch the fancy oil on sale but I may have to bend over and buy some $62 a jugs at crappy tire. Will keep you posted for sure. I had an issue in the past with an 07 Silverado 5.3 with mds lifters, ran mobil 5w30 it's entire life then around 450k kms switched to some cheaper oil. It would tick really loud if you went over 110kph for longer than 5 mins. It was quiet at idle though. I was gonna replace the lifters and cam or even toss in a used engine but didn't see the point with that many miles. I switched back to mobil and it shut up. It's still running at 615xxxkms.

Hey man I have the same noise on my 2012 ram 2 years ago and I haven't found the solution until today the only point in common with you is engine oil. I put liquimoly 5w20 for ecoboost

Its easy to grab the wrong oil that doesnt have the necessary oil rating for our hemi's. I jist grabbed what was on sale not thinking. Been on the Pennzoil ultra platinum 5w20 with fram full synthetic filter and no noise since. Worth a shot man. Keep us posted

Hey man I’m having the same problem from your last video should I be worried I just got her and she’s a 2016 ! And is it a Exhaust manifold ?

Hey man. I dont think mine was manifold bolts as i just had it done. You should be able to see any broken bolts yourself if u get deep under the fender. The ones towards the rear of the engine are common to go.
