2011 - 2019 Ford Explorer Cabin Air filter - How To Change Remove Replace - A/C AC Filter Location

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

A video tutorial on how to replace the cabin air filter on a 2015 - 2020 Ford Explorer.
WHAT IS THE CABIN AIR FILTER ON YOUR FORD EXPLORER?
Cabin air filters, also know as A/C air filter, help enhance the air quality inside your vehicle creating a healthier, more comfortable environment for you and your passengers. A properly functioning cabin air filter, or ac air filter, can stop up to 90% of dust, pollen, and spore particles from entering the Ford Explorer passenger compartment location.
WHEN SHOULD YOU CHANGE THE CABIN AIR FILTER ON YOUR FORD EXPLORER?
It is recommended that you replace your cabin air filter every 10,000 - 15,000 miles or once a year. However, you may want to replace or change the cabin filter in you Ford Explorer more often if:
-You or a frequent passenger suffers from allergies or has other respiratory problems
-You drive your Explorer on dirt roads or in an excessively dusty location
WHERE IS THE CABIN FILTER ON YOUR FORD EXPLORER?
The cabin filter is located behind the glovebox.
This video tutorial can be used to help find the location of as well as remove, change or replace the cabin filter on the following Ford Explorer Models:
2011 Ford Explorer
2012 Ford Explorer
2013 Ford Explorer
2014 Ford Explorer

Just did mine. Perhaps the most assinine design in the history of customer-accessible hatches. Changing the oil filter is a lot easier. Made me want to trade it on the spot.

Those were a pain for me, getting them out and back in, and then one of the plastic tabs on the air cabin door snapped off too 🤦🏻‍♂️ even if I buy a new one, it’s still way cheaper than paying for the labor I guess

The engineers only have so much time to design. If they had a longer time I am sure they could have made it harder! It's a cabin air filter sherlock- should be easy peasy. After changing the plugs on my 2015, I am surprised they didn't put additional locking pins on the white pins, plus another hidden fastener or two just to make it sporting.

Another task, try and find inside fuse panel, more needless plastic in place . Tore it out and threw it away , the designers of Ford Explorer had N O intention of anybody needing to get to either of these tasks !!!!

Everything in the video is informative, HOWEVER the first step indicates to move the white clips in towards the center and it was difficult for me. Next when you remove the retractable clip on the side you will never be able to retrieve it unless you remove the dash side panel. I had a difficult time lining up the white tabs described in step 1 to remount the door. Needless to say I broke one of them and needed to order another one. Unless you drive in dusty conditions don't bother changing this filter. I have 60,000 miles on my 2017 Explorer driving interstate highways and around town and the old filter was still in decent shape. Now, I'm not even thinking of changing my 2016 F150 with 30,000 miles.

There is a lot to break in there for sure. Several videos attack it from different angles. Some admit to breaking stuff. I wondered about retrieving that cable and thought maybe of tying a pull string to it. I have not done mine and will probably let dealer due it do to my age. In reading there notes it is away they can avoid warranty claims on electronics.

I had the same question, as I replaced mine (2017 Explorer Sport) that had the arrow pointing up. I installed the new filter with the arrow pointing down. Logically, it doesn’t make sense for the arrow to be pointing up. If there is a possibility for debris to enter the housing, by design you’d want it falling onto and getting stuck in the filter, not falling back into the housing/blower motor. Also, the warning on the filter cover implies that debris would be coming from the top and could potentially fall down into the blower housing. I’m curious, is your Explorer a 2017? These appear to be the only MY with the filters going the opposite direction (per my KZread/Google research).
