    I have asked a couple of people here on KZread this question. If you install these after market radios does the factory Sirius XM Radio work thru the new unit?

  • @ProvoBeastAudio

    @ProvoBeastAudio

    7 жыл бұрын

    All depends on the radio you choose as your replacement as well as the wiring harness adapter you choose as well. So the answer is yes and no. On this setup in this video, there was no XM radio to begin with, so it was not retained. If your factory radio has XM radio you wish to retain, you will need to choose a radio that is XM ready. Next, choose a wiring harness via crutchfield.com that will retain that factory XM functionality. With the right harness and the right radio, yes, it is totally possible.

    Did you pull the a-pillar trim off at all to help make it easier to feed the mic cable? If you did, would have been nice to see. If not, still good to cover. Because if it's like the 2015 Elantra. The a-pillar has a device that permanently locks the trim in the deployed position so the airbag right there doesn't cause trim to become a missle. That part can be removed and replaced with a new one on the a-pillar.

  • @ProvoBeastAudio

  • @ProvoBeastAudio

    No, you will need a steering wheel control module to retain those features, and a stereo that is steering wheel control compatible. We usually use the ASWC-1 module. This vehicle in the video was not equipped with controls, hence why we didn't retain them.

  • @ProvoBeastAudio

    This model Elantra did not have steering wheel volume controls. In the event your model does, typically i would recommend the Metra Axxess ASWC-1 for retaining those features for an aftermarket radio. Just be sure your radio is compatible / steering wheel controls ready before you purchase the adapter.

  • @ProvoBeastAudio

    Yes, you can retain the factory amplifier when you install an aftermarket radio. You will need a different wiring harness to retain the amp. Secondly, you do not have to lose the steering wheel controls either, you can use the Metra ASWC-1 harness adapter and keep those controls even with a new radio.

    Typically, you will hear a sound quality change; typical new radios put out a bit more power than the factory radios which may appear that the speakers get louder. More power equals more volume, clarity, and overall sound quality.

    The factory USB / AUX port was not retained in this video since the inputs were already on the front of the aftermarket radio. The customer just wanted to use the ones on the new radio only. Depending on the year of your vehicle and trim level, check with crutchfield.com to ensure you get the proper harness to retain the factory amp. They have a part checker which will be super helpful.

The one he installed I found at 15 bucks and the ones we like are at 25 to 45 bucks. Also more buttons on the trim kit the higher the price. i got a kia but it ises same harness. . now do i use the wores from the harness and correctly match them up to the alpines harness? im confused cuz the stock harness colors for speakers are diffirent. for instance the stock left front + is white and - is brown but on the metra wiring kit the front left + is white and - white/black

    The factory wire colors and the metra wiring harness colors will never match up, which is why you have a wiring harness, which easily allows you to match the metra harness colors up to the alpine's wire colors. Don't worry about the factory wire colors.

    Do you need to buy the dash kit in order for install?

  • @ProvoBeastAudio

    @ProvoBeastAudio

    Absolutely. The factory radio is in no way the same shape as a replacement radio, so there is no way to install one without a kit. Check the description for the same kit used in this install.

    Wiring harnesses come with the head unit when purchased new, but if you don't have one, just search ebay the radio model number and wiring harness.

    @@ProvoBeastAudio I have a 2013 Hyundai Elantra GLS, i received my double din dash kit today. Went through the passengers side grommet with my 4 ga wire. Much easier to access on the passengers side and way easier to work with! So far i wired up my fuse and i just have the spool sitting on my passenger side floor. Im waiting on a PIONEER FH-S520BT unit before i begin to wire up my cap/amp/speakers. This is my first sound system install. Your video has helped a lot. I appreciate you bro. Thanks you.

    This is a GREAT video! I liked your video so much I looked up a Pioneer FH-X720BT to install in my 2013 Hyundai Elantra... but it says it will not fit on Crutchfield.com! Now... is that because you made this work yourself and that Crutchfield might not have a kit for me, or is it because maybe my GLS Elantra didn't have something I need for this?

    There was no modification, the kit worked great! Now if you have the factory amplifier, your wiring harness would be a little different, which you would need the Axxess HYBL-04 Wiring Interface. If you don't have the factory amp, all the parts in the video description should work great.

    All 4 speaker sizes in the elantra are 6 1/2" or 6 3/4". as long as those are the same size, they will work.

    Just keep the factory radio. Replace the speakers in the doors instead. There's nothing the new radio can do that the factory radio can't. Back in the 80's and 90's, factory radios were crap. No aux in, no Bluetooth, no satellite radio, sometimes not even a cd player. One of the first things I would do after getting a new car was swap out the factory radio for something with more features. Today's factory radios have so many model specific features that it's hard to really "upgrade" one without sacrificing something . In the case of the Elantra, you have the USB/iPod reader and aux input jack down in the compartment under the climate controls. Do those still work on the Pioneer? It looks like I now have to use the aux in jack on the stereo's face plate.

    If you have factory steering wheel volume controls, the Meta Wiring harness provides those wires for ease of connection. You would want to use the ASWC-1 retain those steering wheel volume controls. If you don't have those controls, just tape them off, they will not be needed. You will need the ground for sure, but one is blue, the other is green right next to the black ground wire.
