2010 Mazda 5 AC Compressor Fix | Fix On A Budget | Also Works For Mazda 3

Welcome back to the channel
In this weeks video I show you a temporary cheap fix that will get your AC compressor working again provided you have the same issue with your 2010 Mazda 5. This is definitely something that you boys and girls at home can do in the driveway and it will also work on many other Mazda products from I believe from the years of 2003 up till like 2014, but I'm not 100% sure so don't quote me lol. Hopefully boys and girls you guys have the same situation and my video will buy you some more time and save you some money. Please keep in mind that this is a temporary fix and it's not a permanent fix. That being said I hope you find the video entertaining as well as helpful of course if you do please hit that subscribe button to support my work.
As always thank you for watching we will see you in the next one...

    Is this a common issue for the 2010 Mazda 5? My a/c went out last year and pushes out hot air.

    So it is a common issue on a lot of cars where the clutch wears out. However there are many other potential issues so what I would do is diagnose it before committing to replacing any components.

    Thanks for this. I have a 2010 Mazda 3, so there are some differences, but the problem was the same, and the fix was similar. The clutch has a foam ring instead of the pair of shims. I cut the ring pretty much in half, and put the smaller half back in. So far it's working great.

    I'm glad this works for you. Yeah some of the compressors come with different source of shims I'm surprised yours was a plastic or foam ring. Just keep in mind when that clutch wears through it will catastrophically fail and the best advice I can give you is to keep an eye on it. Good luck my friend.

    On mazda vehicles with a 3 eye a/c clutch the retainig bolt torque is 10ft-lb (13 Nm).

    Thanks for the specification. I don't know if I mentioned it in the video. I usually try to get the torque spec but shop key which is the program that I use can be a real pain in the rear end.

    My dads 2012 Maz5 is having the same issue...It's had a lot of issues lately nearing 300,000Kms (thankfully got most of it fixed recently) , but the A/C has been a constant problem since before last summer. I'ma send him this, and see if it works as a temp fix until he can get a new compressor.... For now, it's windows down cruising....

    One question on the 2010 Mazda is it the same process, that is, don't you have to remove the blackboard to change the air conditioning compression valve?

  • @JimmysAutoClinic

    @JimmysAutoClinic

    Жыл бұрын

    Hey, I'm not sure what you mean by Blackboard or compression valve. If you're talking about the clutch or taking out that little washer for most masses of those years it is pretty much the same process provided it looks like this sort of setup with that little shield underneath and the compressor being on the bottom of the engine.

    Hi my 2006 mazda 3s 2.3L A/C stops blowing cold after driving awhile if idle slow traffic car doesn't overheat / fans run / new rad fan's / ac pressures good / new condenser new dryer /new a/c clutch minus the sensor you talked about on compressor Can you tell me what sensor is that's in the A/C compressor can you look it up on you online repair manual alldata or what my problem is?

  • @JimmysAutoClinic

    @JimmysAutoClinic

    Жыл бұрын

    So I don't remember exactly what that sensor is I believe it is a thermal sensor or pressure sensor but I don't know for sure. It could be many things that are causing the air conditioning system to stop working at idle. Unfortunately it's not something that is easy to diagnose without seeing the car. I did try to look it up on shop key but I wasn't able to get any information through diagrams. What I would do is run the system at idle to see what is going on whether the compressor is kicking in or not. If it is I would check the pressures at the low side and high side to see how the compressor is functioning when the problem occurs. If the compressor stops all together I would check to see what's going on on the wiring side. I hope that helps. Don't forget to hit that subscribe button.

    Would it not have helped to clean the rust off the electromagnetic surfaces?

  • @JimmysAutoClinic

    @JimmysAutoClinic

    It would have helped yes however the rest from what I can remember wasn't that bad and with me in the surface rust. If there is any real buildup of rust though it is advised to remove it with a soft grinding disc.

    Is it safe to drive my 2010 Mazda 5 with a dead AC Compressor? The Serpentine belt is moving and the belt to the AC Compressor clutch is moving, but the clutch is not moving? Just making sure it's safe to drive, I don't need AC as work is 10 minutes away.

  • @JimmysAutoClinic

    @JimmysAutoClinic

    Yes it is definitely safe to drive with an air conditioning system that is currently not working as long as it's not making any funny noises and the pulley on the AC compressor is working normally.

    The car is up on the voice. That's how I'm able to get to the compressor. However you can do it in the driveway with the jack just make sure you use a pair of Jack stands.

    I usually deal with stretch belts on Subarus which is stupidly designed in comparison to the Mazda so that's probably why you like the Mazda ones better in general though I'm just not a friend of the stretch belt.

    My mazda is doing a weird rattle and after some research I think it may be AC that is producing it. I found this video where a guys seems to have the same intermittent rattle as I. His : kzread.info/dash/bejne/hHec26SoZsSniLg.html Mine : kzread.info/dash/bejne/q6BmxbmIm5a2o9Y.html Is it something that you have experienced too?
