    One second he says this engine is "brilliant", he also says "when you hit the gas it transforms into a rocket", then the next second he says that 300 hp is just adequate. Do these guys listen to themselves or do they do this inconsistent thing to keep you thinking and guessing to keep you watching?

    I own one of these. I got to 60mph in 6 seconds flat using the sport shift. My only complaint is the ticking sound when it idles.

    I have one with 60K on it. Put some decent springs on it, and a good set of 19's( I have staggered 20's) and you easily have a BMW beater and a worry free car.

    I remember being in high school in the late 2000s and seeing this thing for the 1st time. Its shape was luxurious yet sedated...it had sensual curves without being overstylized....and it had a roofline to die for. It was a pure class, and I fantasized about it for the rest of the school year. Seeing this low, sensual sedan for the first time back then, amongst a sea of square SUVs and econoboxes was absolutely marvelous.

    I just got an 11 GS350, I think it is the best kept secret in used cars. It is very hard to find a review with a mechanical failure, especially 10-11. That is quite rare for a car today. I hate to complain but a BMW may be a BIT sportier, but it is extremely high maintenance. The used car guy makes people sign if they don't buy a BMW without a warranty.

    I got mine for 12.8K (before all fees)with 91K. All maint records, clean carfax, but had a paint issue (scratches from a parking lot shopping cart train accident) on a door. The lexus website (put in the vin) and mycarfax(free) has all the maint records. I guess with lower mileage 14-15 is good. Sedans aren't that valuable today, so if you can find out its sitting around, there may be some wiggle room. I changed spark plugs and put 4K miles on it, totally flawless, better a new car. I have AWD, all features but the ML stereo and sunshade.

  • @alb12345672

    @alb12345672

    Mine was bought in Albany. These cars had a timing vvt recall and it should be replaced. Maybe yours was not in the recall. Must ask about that, once it is done it is upgraded to a new design. Sign up on the mylexus site and put in the vin, it will give the history. If it is sold by Lexus it should be taken care of. Probably could get some money off with a serious offer. I would offer 13.5. The other issue is, since it is a NY car the exhaust mdipipe can get pinholes. It is covered by a shield so it could be hard to see. It may still be under emission warranty. So check that out. A custom muffler place could easily repair it though. At 70K it is due for spark plugs too, maybe they would throw it in, or it is easy to diy.

    Yeah, you are buying essential a TRUCK powertrain (RWD AWD). The same trans goes into the Tundras and a detuned engine in the new Tacoma(probably for gas mileage reasons). The engine has dual fuel injection - not cheap, NO manufacturer has it (some are catching on now). Toyota D4S. with direct injection other makes will clog up valves and mess up the engine. That is a big deal if you buy used. This platform is sold overseas as a Toyota Crown (which is like their Crown Vic for police and taxi). Built very heavy duty, suspension and all. Nothing is rusty, and that is rare upstate, even the springs are shiny. If you have any Qs you can post them here or PM.

    @WTFdamn56 I have the same car in AWD. That ticking sound you hear is quite normal, it's from the (GDI) gasoline direct injections or injectors. Direct injected, allow gasoline engines to burn fuel more efficiently, resulting in more power, cleaner emissions, and increased fuel economy!

    Quality is NOT what Lexus used to be. No big problems with my 2007 GS350, but annoying little things like the noise from the sunroof (when you drive, not during opening or closing; cleaned it often, no use), a little noise coming from the front (dealer took the front apart, but couldn't fix it); moody power rear view mirror (1 side often doesn't function right when gear is in reverse, or when you change drivers)...

    I'm 5'11", 180lb and find the GS350 quite roomy from the drivers seat. I think you'd have to be well over 6' and/or very overweight to have any issues. Like any car, the moonroof option will take up an inch or two of headroom.

    You know, as a car guy that has owned many different brands, it's not that Lexus/Toyota CAN'T build a car that can beat a BMW. It's that they just ( until very recently...) have the Sport/luxury ratio way off-balance. Their cars should be about 80/20 sport/luxury like a BMW, but Lexus builds them like as in this era of GS, 50/50 Sport/Luxury. This car is impressive on paper and is very refined, but it's just too soft and polite to really throw in the corners and have a blast like a 3 or 5 Series. Sorry guys, it's just the truth.

  • @KeiDoesManyThings

    Keep in mind Lexus's main point: reliable luxury. That's what put them on the map. They're quiet, relatively nice, and shouldn't contain headaches too often. (Like people, cars will break down, but how often is the point.) They shouldn't have to be very sporty oriented. Just sporty enough to keep some happy. Not everybody wants sporty (in the sense of harsh rides, taut seats, and that area) every single day. If you wanted that, go for a BMW. But a Lexus will always have to maintain "comfortable". Fail to do that, and they might lose their identity. I've owned the 2nd generation Lexus GS and about to own the 3rd gen GS. Take it from me: I don't really like the 3rd gen like I do the 2nd gen. But given my situation, I'm gonna need a newer replacement until I'm able to get another 2nd gen. And if you really need to toss corners in them, all it takes is a few suspension upgrades.

    I think most people prefer comfort over sporty handling. I own a 2010 lexus gs 350 AWD and it's smooth ,soft and plenty fast for me. I test drove a 2013 lexus gs 350 sport and it was rougher, stiffer and uncomfortable to drive. I prefer mine over that any day.
