Whether WVU would have been okay with Stew or not, you can't say he wasn't a great Mountaineer to heal us after what happened with RichRod. He wasn't our answer for the future but I have nothing but respect for that man, RIP Stew!

The goal post was leaning Marshall's way and they STILL couldn't make it!!

Every time WVU ran out of bounds, the clock clicked off an additional two seconds.

Even as I'm watching this in 2021 and the time is counting down in the 4th, I'm thinking how the f*ck did we lose to Marshall?!? Hahaha... what a game. RIP to one of the greatest men to represent WVU, Coach Stewart.

Notice near the end as WVU is driving down field and picking up first downs that the time keeper lets two and three seconds run off the clock even after each WVU first down trying to run the clock out on WVU.

Even a jacked up goal post couldn't save Marshall lol.

Marshall, you had your chance. The only chance they ever had to beat us. Unbelievable!

Clock operator tried very hard to help Marshall win.

Doc should have been the mountaineer head coach after all he was an assistant back into the days and a good one too.. I did love me Stewart .. He should never neem treated like he was .. See you in football heaven Sir

Imagine being an assistant coach for your home state alma mater for 20 plus years. Also being heralded as one of the greatest recruiters, bringing some of the most talented recruits to that program. And then every time your alma mater had an opening for head coach, you get overlooked. Holiday will probably always be bitter, and who would blame him?

Thats what you call grabbing victory from the jaws of defeat, WVU just couldn't seem to do the deed until the end of the game when it was on the line, GO MOUNTAINEERS.....

Biggest choke in college football

This game pretty much sealed Marshall’s fate I’m no Marshall fan but I wonder if they actually won if they would be with WVU in the big 12 or another power 5 conference even better group of 5 conference 2010 was big realignment year

I was totally put off by Marshall's coach this game and lost all respect for him when he couldn't even shake Bill's hand at the end of the game. So sad.

+Mark Roth It was his one opportunity to knock off WVU. They knew the playbook perfectly, put all their eggs into one basket as they tend to do when we play them and still couldn't pull it off. He was fuming. I agree though...classless move by Doc.

I remember being harrassed by our little sister Marshla fans. What a great game and great victory by WVU

I love how the ESPN announcers keep claiming a Marshall victory before the game was over!!! LOL!!!

What? I've never seen a reference calling the missed FG good after the game. Care to share or is this another herd conspiracy theory?

Bottom line was: I watched this game at a pizza place in Columbus, Ga. and Marshall had WVU beat until the last 2:34 seconds and they choked

I completely forgot how close WVU was to losing. They had 1st and goal up 21-6 with 8 minutes left!

That kick was no where close to being good.

Any Mountaineer fan who denies the extreme importance of this "classic comeback" doesn't understand much about the dynamics of the state, do they? Sometimes, avoiding a catastrophic loss is just as important as scoring a tremendous win. Paterno and Penn State used to do this all the time to us from the late '60s through the early '90s; it was a swift kick to the nuts every damn time. But in college football, having the better, more historically solid program will occasionally create for your teams impossible wins that certainly should have been losses. This was clearly one such instance. Maybe by the 22nd century, the Herd will finally catch up....but I seriously doubt it.

Well even if thats true, that Marshal receiver let go of the ball before he reached the endzone on that huge touchdown play. So I guess it evens out.

69-34 ouch but defense has to step it up we cant play like that against Oklahoma Texas or heck every team in the big 12

they need to step it up but i dont see any reason for anything less then a 9 or 10 win season

Holiday just looks like the absolute jerk he really is during this entire game.

Why didn't the announcers of ESPN use their " There is plenty of time!" saying for WVU during this game? If WVU was leading they would of used it for their opponent for sure. We have heard it over and over in other WVU games.

We've beaten Texas MANY times, it's Oklahoma we haven't gotten past...... yet.

Marshall should've went for the block punt @1:42:21 it would've ended the game.

Marshall will never beat West Virginia.

So this WVU team had GENO SMITH, NOEL DEVINE, JOCK SANDERS, TAVON AUSTIN, STEDMAN BAILEY, WILL JOHNSON (starter for the STEELERS) plus BRUCE IRVIN, ROBERT SANDS, JT THOMAS, BRANDON HOGAN KEITH TANDY, CHRIS NEILD, and PAT MCAFEE and still barley beat MARSHALL! RIP COach stew, but you were a terrible football coach great person though

Well Marshall has to live with the what if’s. What else do they have. Very little real fan support, no hope of playing in any bowl that matters(even if they deserved it), awful trash hole town. I’ll be in Morgantown this weekend to watch WVU probably get bashed by Texas. We are young and have a new coach and lost all our talent. Game will be totally sold out with a top atmosphere. Real football.
