$200k Landcruiser flooded crossing the Jardine River!!!
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
The Boys are on a mission to cross the Jardine River!! After crossing via the ferry on their way up to Cape York they are determined to make it back across using their own 4wds. The Landcruiser goes first and saying it got bogged is an understatement.... Will the Next-gen Ranger do it any easier?

Back in the day, when Starke was still a cattle station, two ringers wanted to take an old Land Rover to the Tip. Apparently it was at the end of a big wet season and the Jardine was over 600 metres across. They found an old punt, took the motor and winch that connected to the front PTO mount and went across the river with them in the punt. Set up the motor on the other side and winched the Land Rover across, refilled the tanks with fuel, put everything back together and continued on their way.

That’s bloody wild!! 😳
Hey guys, that fish is a "Long Tom" NOT an Alligator Gar. The two are not even in the same family.

Was just looking through the comments to see if anybody that knows Australian fish picked up on that! At least Mark didn't call it an alligator!? 😅😅 Definitely not swimming around in our waterways.... or are they? 😮 hahaha

Unlucky!!! At least you guys can tick it off the bucket list now. Good ep, keep em coming boys 🤙🏼

Great episode. I’ve watched footage from 70s-80s-90s of how it used to be to cross. You guys nailed it. Looking forward to next weeks adventure. 👍

Great episode guys. My wife and I stood on both sides at the same points you crossed and wondered what it would have been like to cross. It was like I was back up there again you never know we could Cross it next time.

Cheers mate! We’ve been in exactly the same boat as you a few times and saw the water nice and low so went for it! Definitely would not do it again though 😂😂
Nice one 👍🏻 Speaking of iconic pics I remember as a kid seeing pics of our local Suzuki club floating zuk’s across the Jardine with tractor inner tubes under each wheel in the 80’s

Loved when Steve just opens the door as the water level was the same in the cruiser as outside. 🤦🏽 Should have dropped them pressures to 10 or lower. But well done for keeping it real. Oh yeah, Mark on croc watch. 🤦🏽🤣🤣

Haha yeh there was a point he gave up on keeping water out. Yeh hindsight we should’ve gone lower… I’d like to say we’ll try that next time but I don’t think we’ll be doing that again 😂

Crazy trying to cross at that depth. It's a good thing the sponsors are probably picking up the can.

Yeh not the smartest idea in hindsight. But you never know if you don’t give it a crack. Sponsors definitely don’t pay for the vehicles though…. All comes out of our own back pocket if we make a mistake

What tyre pressures did you guys go? I would have gone around 6psi for something like that. Nice straight corssing, no chance of the tyre coming off the bead.

Yeh not that low. Probably around 14 in the cruiser. In hindsight we should have gone a lot lower 🤦♂️

Thanks mate!! 🍻
i crossed it in 1985 fj45 with 10 psi in the tyres . crossed it easyley . but when pumping up the tyres on the other side the menzil pump died . i had to drive to bamaga with 10 psi , it took a while. a menzil pump is one where you replace one spark plug with , the engine compression pumps up the tyre. the worst part was waiting for it to cool down.
@TrueNorthAdventures
Ай бұрын
That’s an awesome story! Yeh we should have gone lower... We went to about 15psi on the cruiser and a bit lower on the ranger. Yeh I remember those! Used to be popular for people heading to Stockton sand dunes.
I heard from a reliable source that the TO's hammer in star pickets through the crossing to destroy the tyres of people attempting to cross. They prefer everyone to use the ferry.
@TrueNorthAdventures
Ай бұрын
We haven’t heard that before but we know they have dug out the northern bank previously to prevent people crossing.
Rumour had it at the time sept 1995 that the fella’s who own the ferry were blowing big holes in the river bed, there used to be a plastic phone with number (rescue crew) hanging in the tree on the north side 😂😂

@TrueNorthAdventures

Cheers mate! For us it’s just space in the tinny. Getting 4 blokes in there is tight so we have to sacrifice something. Big boat always has a landing net onboard 👍

Now it’s even more impressive that an au falcon has crossed it the last 2 years for league of lemons. I think even lower tyre pressures would’ve been the go.

Nothing to prove just ticking off a bucket list item for us 👍 Would be good to do it in a sacrificial 10k car but we only have what we have
Why get the bi t ranger
@TrueNorthAdventures
29 күн бұрын
Couple of reasons. Some of which I now regret and some I still agree with… haha I was more confident having known the bi-turbo had been in the high end rangers for a few years already so figured the faults would be sorted. I didn’t need the power for towing heavy loads… however I now probably do 😂. And I wanted to buy a base model cost car to build up with wheels, bullbar, tray, suspension etc of my choice.
Hahaha when you buy a 4x4 it is not a boat
