2009 Mercedes r-350 engine & cabin filters
Hello everyone. I just want to remind everyone that this repair is per the instruction manual, the reason is, that it possible to crush and damage filter up on installation. It takes 15 to 30 minutes to perform the task depending on your skill level per the manual, however if you are careful enough and have the right touch, you may very well save your selves 20-30 minutes replacing filter via engine. As you can see some here have been successful in doing just that. I thank you for sharing with your fellow viewers what proved more productive to you. Should you ever have the need to remove glovebox you can always resort back to this video, not very hard. Thanks to everyone for watching. I know next time I do mine, I will try a little harder to do it from the engine side))

I've been able to replace the cabin filters (2 small) via the engine compartment on my R320. Better than going from the inside...

Thanks for the video, regarding the cabin filter, I changed the mine one from the engine side, I did not need to remove the glove box for that, and took me just 5 minutes pull the two out and put in the new ones.

Thank you Jose glad to know you were successful in doing it that way. I tried but was unable without damaging new ones so I decided to follow the directions instead but would have loved to save a bunch of time like you. Perhaps you can make a short video and Post it so others will know your shortcut. Thank you so much for commenting!

Yes but I Wonder if it's because you have a newer model. I just bought a 2006 and the mechanic just told me it was labor intensive. That's what brought me to research and I found this video.

I have always changed my cabin filters from the engine compartment. It's very easy, they are made of paper and are very flexible. I never thought about taking apart the glove box.

Thank you madmsgyver, again the instructions from Mercedes is to do it from the glove box, but many seem to be successful at doing it from engine side. Coming from a dealer setting, I learned the hard way breaking something on customers expensive car wasn't an option, so most technicians opted for manufacturers guidelines. Good job getting it done safely through and Thank you for your comment! I always appreciate you guys' input!

@@3dviewlogic thank you for the reply. I have the Mercedes factory repair manual and I refer to it for 99% of the repairs. I thought the cabin filters were self explanatory. This reminds me of the alternator removal for late 80s early 90s Hondas, removal of the wheel and axle shaft is recommended. 4 hour job. I figured it out in 20 minutes without removing anything except the alternator. Thank you for posting w251 content, and having dealer experience

go through engine compartment. Just remove plastic intake and you can reach in and get to filters with a little finesse.

I appreciate the way you put it my friend, the key is finesse:) but I'm not sure if the particular model makes a difference, certainly there must be a reason why Mercedes outlines a procedure to go through the glovebox. Thank you so much for your input!

Good job George. My A/C Compressor Clutch locked up. Many MB's have a clutch available. My 2007 R 500 did not. I think I will replace the Expansion Valve like you did. The A/C Dryer is mandatory to replace so I have done that. You may want to include Torque Specs on all the fittings. Big help if you did. I like your video. I do disagree with reusing the cabin filters. Impossible to remove the small particles of crud that impregnates itself in the filter media. Reducing the effectiveness of the filter significantly. Once I was in there I would spring for 2 good quality air filters. Thank you !

Thanks Larry, Appreciate the comment. The torque specs were included in other videos, this was the last one, but will re look and post a note here soon. And I guess you are right, if its that hard to replace those filters, might as well go new:))

Hey MIke so sorry for late response, had not got a chance to go on KZread. The fuel filter filter is part of the sender assembly inside the tank. You can access by lifting rear seat cushions as well as the padding underneath. I am including a link on my google drive for you to follow those instructions. docs.google.com/document/d/1nFDDJ3xol-V2lzPMD6SqPU12lp26CbiZqjHlUtM5_BE/edit?usp=sharing I hope this helps Mike!

Sooo..... you day the clip in the back is easy... but you have removed the good and the all the sheet metal and the windshield wiper mechanism is visible. It went from fully covered to open air... how do you get to the latch. ... or how do you diss assemble the metal on top of the air box.

Very hard to understand as the camera moves so much and fast. I suggest to do that when disassembly. Thank you

Thank you for the input Bernardo, I apologize for inconvenience. I only had access to phone at the time. I have since purchased a hero pro camera and hopefully next time it will be better quality.
