2009 Honda Ridgeline Check Gas Cap, P0497, P145C

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

In this video I describe how I resolved "Check Gas Cap" dash messages, along with check engine and VTM-4 lights on my 2009 Honda Ridgeline RTL. OBD scanner showed two codes every time this issue would pop up and those were P0497 and P145C. The vehicle appeared to run just fine with these issues but I got sick all the warning lights and dings so I decided to try and resolve it. I would suggest checking/cleaning/replacing your gas cap first. If that doesn't solve it then consider replacing the Evap Purge Solenoid (Honda Part Number 36162-RMX-A01 for my vehicle) which is an easy 30 minute repair. If that doesn't solve it then you can consider changing other items in the Evap system. I would suggest getting a genuine Honda replacement part from a reputable Honda dealer to eliminate any potential issues from aftermarket parts. Also, use a Honda parts lookup tool to confirm the correct part number for your exact vehicle. Sorry but I had already changed the part before making this video, the part I show is the old one. However, now that I was pretty sure this resolved my problem, I wanted to make a short video describing the issue and resolution.
Note that I am a DIY'er and not a mechanic. I have no affiliation with Honda, any of it's dealers, and received no payment or reimbursement for this video. Good luck!

Thank you, mine's doing the exact same things as yours did so I'll start with the gas cap and then the Evap Purge Solenoid. Great info, thanks again.

Good luck on the fix. Mine has had zero issues since changing the purge solenoid. It was probably the issue all along but was worth starting with the gas cap.

Followed this fix on my 2010 Ridgeline and the check engine light did not come back on (replaced Solenoid). However 4 days later, I'm dealing with "Tighten Fuel Cap" warning. Someone said to take the tubes off and blow compressed air through them to make sure there are no clogs.

Did blowing air worked? I replaced my solenoid as well and there is same issue, fuel cap warning is not going away.

Sorry, I can't say I kept track of it all that well before or after so I really don't know. It seems maybe it improved a little but that could just be wishful thinking.

Yes, I’ve had zero gas cap messages or check engine lights since changing this part. May not be the resolution for all but it was for me. Good luck
