2009-2013 Mazda6 Bose Door Speaker Replacement

In this video I install new Bose door speakers in my 2013 Mazda6. These new speakers replace the old GS1G-66-960A speakers with the newer GS1G-66-960B speakers.

    Did you order them straight from Bose? Can I ask also are these cones stiff or flex easily?

    @@cinque8335 I just called one of the local Mazda dealers and they had them in stock. Got there 30 minutes later and picked them up. I checked the Bose website but didn't see anything that said that I was able to order such a thing from them, hence going the dealer route. I can't recall how the cones felt. Sorry.

    Hi Richard, I watched your vid on removing the amp, thanks, very helpful. My issue appears different from yours, it seems your issue was no sound, my issue is loud intermittent voltage spikes, even a few pops after shutting the radio off. Very violent, really bad for the speakers. To me that’s an indication of stored voltage being released from the amplifiers capacitance, possibly a bad resistor on the circuit board, although I'm not an electrical engineer, just making resonable assumptions. Sent the amplifier out for repair, supposedly fixed and tested, received and reinstalled, but same issue remains, had to pull the 30Amp audio fuse. I pulled the amp out again and am sending back to the repair facility. I don’t think it’s any of the speakers, simply for the fact that the popping continued for a min AFTER the radio was turned off, and speaker magnets can’t store power. I’m assuming after your amplifier debacle, you targeted your rear door speakers because you got NO sound when you faded the radio to the rear. When I reinstalled the amp, a few min before the popping, I question if I had rear sound, but didn’t have time to play with fade control before hell broke loose. Did your replacement speakers indicate how many ohms they are? I may have no choice but to test each speaker if the amp comes back clean, so weird.

    Thanks for the compliment. Glad I was of some assistance. The replacement speakers didn't have any details about them, in typical Bose fashion (everything seems to be a big secret with that company). However, Mazda itself is the key to the impedance of the speakers: Front Door Speakers: 1.83 - 2.47 ohms Rear Door Speakers: 1.83 - 2.47 ohms Front Centre Speaker: 2.24 - 3.96 ohms Rear Centre Speaker: 0.9 - 1.1 ohms Rear Speaker (shelf): 2.24 - 3.96 ohms Tweeter: 3.06 - 3.94 ohms That said, don't overlook the possibility that the head unit may be faulty.

    @@RichardTait1977 Thanks so much for the speaker specs. Too bad the speakers are integrated with a housing, an aftermarket alternative would have been welcomed , I'm sure a Bose objective to eliminate. Yes, a chance the head unit may be the issue, if it is, then I may replace it with a new Android multimedia unit. Thanks again.

    @@mikeblack6953 I would do the same. I am not a fan of Bose (I wish Mazda would move away from them and go with something else, maybe something Japanese - not that I have anything against any other set of products, but that would just add to the Japanese-ness of the brand). Bear in mind that most aftermarket systems will not have these crazy impedance values (requiring speakers to be changed) and if you don't use a conversion kit like you can get from Crutchfield, then you will lose the ability to control the clock and you will lose the steering wheel controls as well. There is also the possibility of losing the backup camera if you don't choose the correct head unit. I would definitely be using Crutchfield to make sure I was on the right track.

    are there any aftermarket speakers that can plug and play into the car doors or does it have to be the specific one and if so what size would it be

    I've never been able to find an aftermarket speaker you fit these because of the impedance. If and when the time comes to change them again should I have any issues I'll just replace the entire system and get rid of the Bose. I'm not a fan of the brand and I wish Mazda would stop putting them in their vehicles.

    How many watts are the front door bottom speakers?

  • @RichardTait1977

    @RichardTait1977

    2 ай бұрын

    Unfortunately, I have no idea. What I can tell you is that the amp is 265 Watts with 10 speakers. Whether that means 26.5 watts each or it's split up in done other way remains to be seen. For the record, those speakers are 2 ohm impedance, so you can do with that what you will. Bose is not the most transparent of companies to begin with, and no information about the specs are actually written on the speaker.

    @@ramelite Go ahead. I've given you all the info you need. Get some 2 ohm speakers that are rated around 300 watts and are 6.5 inches in diameter. Get the Mazda wiring harness to keep things tidy. You can find everything above on the usual sites for decent money.

    The only place to get them new is a dealer. They're about US$90 each.
