2008 Lexus LS460 Review | The $70,000 Luxury Car Nobody Cares About

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

This is my 2008 Lexus LS460 review, it is the $70,000 luxury car that nobody seems to care about. The LS460 Is a car that I do care about and I reviewed my own used 2008 Lexus LS460 because there didn't seem to be any proper reviews done on the LS460. So this is a very detailed and in depth look at my 08 LS460 Lexus and if you have any questions please let me know in the comments below. Thank you for stopping by, I do hope you consider subscribing and liking this video. Take care!

That’s not true. I live in Japan and drive this car and I’m not a chauffeur. Most of the people who drive this car in Japan are old guys who run their own business. Now the car is getting old it’s mostly young blue collar workers that drive it. The Toyota Crown is the car you are most likely to see being used as a chauffeur car. Replaced readiator and other plastic parts. Also had a mysterious engine oil leak which mechanics could never find the source! I paid 9,000 in 2012 and ended up spending about 6 grand in 2 years...Also you probably have the seat flex. Had this with the drivers and passenger side. want $400 to fix the wiring every time. Honestly I would not spend the money to be honest. I’ve heard many people say the 430 rides better also the 430 will never die haha. It will be the more reliable car and that’s the beauty of the 430. You want S class luxury with a smooth V8, Lexus made it and unlike the Merc it’ll last. The only real thing you will gain by moving to a 460 is a 100 more HP, for street driving I’m sure the 430 is fine. But I really appreciate you stopping by glad you found value with the video

@@johnjarosky2763 both of you should get an REALLY good extended warranty like now; my GWC warranty has already paid for itself twice and I'm locked in for the next 3 years or 36k miles. also word to the wise please do yourself a massive favor and take it to Lexus almost exclusively. yes it will cost more but TRUST ME even my high school "friend" that was supposed to be a great mechanic and works at what appears to be a reputable shop completely screwed me. I could go on but at any rate I am picking my Lexus back up from Lexus on Friday and the anticipation is practically building by the minute. I just love this car, for all of what it is and know I'll be good for a very long time when I get it back this time. & to answer your question on the 460L John it is honestly worth whatever you think it is worth in combination with it's condition and so forth. I would say 30K easily with that low of miles. honestly. but if u buy it clearly u should note that it is 70k MSRP so if the repairs outweight the KBB value you should honestly just pay for them done anyway. & again; extended warranty, just make SURE you READ YOUR CONTRACT so you can know your policy and use it properly. Dude amazing review! Every detail is dead on! Lol I currently own a 2011 LS460 and everything you said is exactly how I feel about it. Especially the transmission. Smh. I thought it was only me over thinking the issues of the trans but know i understand that and many other things. Overall I love my LS and don’t regret buying it. Definitely it turns heads cause I’m a young guy riding a very luxurious car lol

And yea as far the problems goes, not a make it or break it but worth mentioning I guess. Toyota always seems to program sluggish trans but they last and they’re good for cruising at least haha. Very good video. Appreciate it. There is a 2010 with 80 K miles at the local Toyota dealership. Was just put on the lot. Absolutely beautiful black on black. Mint. But the issue with the control arms scares me. Apparently 2011 and 2012 are vastly improved, but pricing is much higher everywhere you look. Clearly everyone knows Lexus fixed the final two years of this particular model. Frankly I think the smart thing to do would be to go for the ES, like my mom did. Or the LS 430 from 2005 or 06. Reliability on steroids.

Ive only had big body cars my whole life. Last car was a navigator Really wanted one of these after someone wrecked my Navigator. But I couldn't find one low milage in my price range so I ended up getting a IS250 and I couldn't be happier. Wish I got the 350 but I couldn't find one not beat up with high miles. My criteria was it had to have all maintenance records and had to be one owner. Wasnt hard to find a ls460 like that but they were all overpriced. Oh well the IS is the first car I can achieve 20mpg(I have a heavy foot) and I love that little car. Also I'm a audio head and the insulation in the LS is too much would muffle out any Subwoofer in the trunk

Great review Kevin. I recently bought a similar 08 460 L (silver w black interior). It has the exec seating package and was really well maintained by the 2 previous owners. The Lexus headphones had never even been opened up, ha! LOVE this car! Also, I had it inspected before buying and from this knew that the only big issue were the control arms (thanks for covering this in your review). In case it helps others, I paid $400 for the control arms from a US company, and my local trusted mechanic charged $1900 to install, as it’s a big job. Took them a day and a half. Now it is driving much, much better as the bushings were completely worn. I’d def recommend this car bc of the big engine and massive rear seat leg room (I’m 6’5” and it’s good).

@@MeynMotorGroup I have a question though if you can help me out make a better decision. I had an RX, but it's gone! Now with an ES. I'm shopping for a better one. I was thinking about 2014 GX460 luxury trim or the 2008-2010 LS460 or the LS600hL which one of these would you recommend overall? I drive in Houston which has a lot of bumps, dips, cracked rough roads in most areas in TX plus lots of flood during the hurricane season :( which means I have to have some tough vehicle that can handle the bumps a lot better and smoother at the same time ride-frienldy for my senior parents! Currently I deal with constant repairs on my ES in suspension area: shocks, struts, control arms etc. I'm sick and tired of mechanic ripoffs! Btw all the two Lexus models i owned i noticed the delay hiccups of the transmission which I didnt like at all. I am glad you mentioned in this video, (no one else mentioned in their reviews) I dont wanna go back to Acura which was my first car. Between the 3 cars I mentioned above which one do you think will suit in my case? Unless you suggest a different vehicle that does not require dealing with constant repairs! I'm open to suggestions but I love the Lexus comfort ride :)

I would recommend the GX then because the LS has very weak suspension as well and will be even more costly in the long run then the ES. An SUV in general would be best for you and the GX is on a proper body on frame so it's very tough. Gas mileage won't be great but the car will hold up. If you want to save more money, The toyota highlander and the 4runners are great too. The 4runner is basically the GX. Hope this helps and again very sorry for the late response

We have similar taste in cars! We had a Stinger GT2 and Veloster Turbo and just traded the Stinger on a CPO '17 LS460L on Friday before I saw this video! The Lexus had 47k miles and came with a 4-year unlimited mileage warranty, was about 43% off the $99k original price and the dealership experience was great! Doesn't get much better of a Luxury car experience! Great video, all very interesting - surprised how little has changed on the car in 10 years (up to the LS500 of course, but can't afford a new one!). @@MeynMotorGroup Thanks man. Regarding the 8 speed shifting issues, grab a VIM off Ebay for roughly $80 and a copy of Techstream for another $10-20. Install Techstream on your laptop. Then you can flash the ECU with the latest Engine, Transmission, and Navigation code updates from Lexus. Many of the refinements in the later model LS 460 are a result of ECU / Transmission code updates. This setup also does FULL diagnostics on everything! For about $100, you have dealer tech access / capability. My VIM & Techstream are on the way.

I actually have to agree, after reviewing the LS430, my most recent review as of right now, the 4.3 engine was so much smoother. To the point where I now understand how Lexus was able to balance a bunch of wine glasses on the hood and run an LS400 on a dyno. The LS460 is a smooth car too but not like that but like you said the 460s are pretty quick. I would say after 05-06 when they stopped producing the LS430 they did take a bit of a dive but for a lot of people shopping used, they see that the 460s cost about the same amount as a 430 so I still do recommend it but just get an extended warranty. Despite this any Lexus will be more reliable then a German car, those are lease only

460 are outfitted with timing chains vs 430s have timing belts...this fact may affect the 460s smoothness.

Thanks so much and yes they used it as a basis on the IS F however, it was heavily tuned and it was referred to as the “sport shift” transmission so I’m sure they cleaned it up quite a bit. The LS trans is fine for cruising..for the most part haha

As far as the issue with only having an aux input, I am having a Vais technology kit installed to add bluetooth. The “slit” on the driver’s door is actually a vent for the A/C to blow against the window for defogging, you’ll find the air passthrough on the crease of the door (near where the hinge is located) that is normally hidden when the door is closed. Great car btw!
