2008 BMW 535xi Misfire

2008 BMW 535xi with aprrox. 104k miles. The shop simply put a valve cover gasket on it, and when it was all back together it was misfiring on cylinders 1,2 and 3. Further diagnostics showed the #1 fuel injector driver in the computer is shorted. We are going to replace the driver(mosfet).

This is awesome, replacing simple components in a computer is a very cost effective way to repair vehicles with this issue. With most cars the ECU (or in bmws case DME) are costly and sometimes in older vehicles (10 years or more) not possible to order. Also this process saves time and additional expenses incurred with the programing or coding of a replacement. First time I repaired an ECU was from an 07 350z coupe. Throttle body caused a short and damaged the ecu, Nissan had long stopped producing it and it was incredibly difficult to source as the car was not equipped with cruise control... (crazy eh?) so repair was the logical option. Thanks for producing videos like this to help the car community..

Can you provide me with the part number used for the new MOSFET? I am dealing with a similar issue on CYL5, but cannot find an exact replacement for the burnt out MOSFET. I know enough to replace the part, but am not savvy to what parts will work as replacement.

D FOX AUTO thanks for the quick reply. The numbers on the current drivers are as follows. N651AG IRF W644b I’ve looked them up, but I either get nothing, or the parts populating do not look the same as my existing drivers. Thanks, Chris

If you buy a next DME does it still need to reprogram?

Yes, if you purchase a new DME (if available) or used one from another vehicle it will require programing / adaptation to the vehicle your installing it into.

You have to get the part number off the driver. The part numbers are not going to be the same. Just read it off the driver
