2008-2009 58 Reg Ford Focus - came to me not starting regularly - lots of warning lights on the dash, engine malfunction warning, gauges intermittently not working, engine cutting out when driving.
Diagnosed roughly by fault codes indicating vehicle theft, CAN communication errors, Immobiliser light flashing fast etc.
Car starts if the top of the instrument cluster is thumped hard on top of the dash board - this usually indicates poor or cracked solder joints on the back of the cluster printed circuit board behind the main connector.
Re-flow solder joints and usually this fixes the problem, but not always!
