2007 Toyota Yaris Front Struts Shocks Removal Tip Part 1

Quick tip on how you can remove your front struts for a Yaris without removing everything under the hood! Note: had to remove battery only because i dropped the allen wrench down in to the bowels of the engine bay. That's what happens when you are working outside in -20c d'oh!!

To Henry: i believe it was a 17mm offset wrench and a shortened 6mm allen key (or hex wrench it is sometimes called)

Where did you put the little washer that comes in the same bag as the new top nut??? I can't find this anywhere if it should go on top where the bolt sticks through or if it goes in between the steel mount ring and the nut that has the coil spring torqued down. Monroe doesn't include where to put it in the manual... I am asking because this brand new strut STILL has a gap when I lower the car and I can't close it by tightening, so I am afraid I just pulled a newbie and put the washer in wrong. Any help is most appreciated!

Sorry but mine came all assembled as a quickstrut the only pieces i needed to put on were the large steel/rubber washer mount (that goes on from inside the engine bay) and then the lock nut to hold that down. No little washer involved.

ben2mx That was it, get yourself a QuickStrut and it will have everything all ready put together so you dont have to assemble the entire strut yourself prior to installing it on your car. The car itself has had new rotors and pads, new serpentine belt, and now the front struts. Pretty good for a 10 year old car!

Hey was the creak happening under hard braking or just in general? I have a friend with a weird grinding creak pop sprang noise that happens in the last few feet of hard braking that I can't figure out. Pads, rotors, bearings, all good. Lower control arm bushings we're actually starting to rip.

use liquid soap and lube the bushings see if it makes any difference

It is a video showing a tip to help people that are trying to remove the strut. It is not a complete instructional video on how to remove a strut.

I did this job yesterday (but had to remove everything as didn't have offset tools) - totally fucking stupid the way this car is designed...

Prius has the same issue, sacrifice engine compartment space for more passenger room.

It is amazing what engineers think when they design things. My 2011 Colorado with the 5 cylinder engine needs 8 hours of labour to change a valve cover gasket!!! My old Nissan Xterra was 5 minutes with a phillips screw driver.
