I agree, this Toyota Avalon may just be the perfect used car. Fully loaded models tend to age more gracefully. Sure this one has a few dated features, but overall, I think it's easily good for another 15 years and 150,000 miles. I was seriously looking at a nice used Avalon a few years ago but really needed the towing capacity of a truck so I got a Tundra, but that Avalon was sweet. Considering it's a low production car, there are actually three homes on my street with Avalons!

I have this exact Avalon and it's absolutely amazing. Mine has 280,000 miles and you honestly wouldn't know it. Mine is a little more upgraded tho, I have a full navigation system and more buttons where that tape deck thing is. The only thing that doesn't work on mine is the rear power shade. But it rides like a dream, it has plenty of power, I'm really glad I bought it and I'm probably going to put another 100,000 miles on it.

You're so right. My 3rd gen Avalon has been the best car ive ever owned. As far as looks go.. from the front its pretty 'meh' .. but from the C pillar back i think its so understated. The way the tail lights cross the trunk and wrap around the rear fender into a body line that goes right to the front to me is actually quite a striking setup. I love not having the Lexus badge and every time someone new gets into my car they do a big ole 'whoa this is nice'. And that 3.5 is a KILLER.. 32mpg on the highway no problem if you watch your foot. I took my console apart and ran a cassette adapter into the cubby behind the gear shifter (no wires visable, can still close the little door over the cassette) and it really makes that JBL sound system come alive. Incredible road trip car! I wish i got to ride as a passenger in it more often ahah. If you find an Avalon and its in your price range... buy it. You will not regret it!

These are amazing cars, Superfast, super plush, decent-looking, cheap parts. The 3.5 L V6 is pretty Bulletproof, I advise anyone who has one of these or wants to buy one to immediately change their VVT oil cooler line, it is a plastic part that breaks and all of your oil leaks out, there's a metal one from Dorman for a hundred bucks

@@baselhs so yes, there definitely was a recall, and according to my Lexus dealer it was done back in 2011. But last year the VVT oil cooler line on my 2008 RX 350 cracked again, it happened when I was on the freeway and by the time I got home there was no oil left. I bought the full metal replacement one from Dorman, my mechanic showed me the so-called recall replacement from the Lexus dealership and it was not metal. Thank God my engine survived, but I highly recommend people to have theirs inspected and or changed to the all metal one even if the Toyota and Lexus dealer did the recall.

Oh I drove one of these all through college after getting it from my grandparents. A neat hidden trick if you have the keyless fob version is it actually had remote start! You had to press the lock twice and hold it down on the third press and it would start the car and leave it running up to 10 minutes I think. You can find it mentioned in the manual how to do it. The button timing is pretty tricky to get down, I had to practice with it before I could reliably do it. It was weird how little advertised this feature was considering its uncommon even now!

That car looks so comfortable. I'd call the looks understated. It has no need to be flashy and doesn't try. It's what's on the inside that counts. This is probably one of the best values among Toyotas. Those gauges look like a cheap watch. White numbers on a black background. Perfectly readable and nothing more. I'm surprised Toyota would hide away the volume knob. This had to be one of the last cars with a tape deck. Toyota knew their target market. My grandfather still calls CDs tapes, which confuses salesmen to no end.

I have a 2007 Avalon. It just passed 300,000 miles. Body is a bit beat up, the suspension makes squeaking sounds, and the dashboard is fading. But man, the engine and transmission are solid. Just handled a 500 mile trip like a champ.

2:34. Neat! That "Toyota VIP" thing is a glass breakage sensor. Since the Avalon Limited already comes with factory keyless entry and a theft deterrent alarm, the only way to upgrade the security aspect of the car was to offer a glass breakage sensor. Pretty awesome in my opinion. 7:01. Did a quick Google image search- that O is not factory. The factory O is more of a square shape with rounded corners.

I purchased an '07 Avalon in 2014 with 50,000 on the clock. I drove the car for 8 years with only 1 issue in 2020 being an alternator failure at 185,000 miles. It was an absolutely perfect car, and at 288,000 miles I was still getting between 28 and 32 mpg. I truly thought I would get 400,000 miles out of it until I hit a bear at 65 mph. Now talk about tough!! When I hit the bear I was in an area with no phone signal, So I drove the car home with the cruise set at 65. The AC was out due to the collision, but everything else functioned except the front lights. BEST CAR EVER, and I miss it. I did jump over to a low mileage '07 Solara because I wanted a convertible, and I love it to.

When I was looking for a used car in this horrible used car market, I checked out a few of these Avalon limited models, if you find one with the factory navigation system, it looks more modern then the regular screen. I loved these avalons but finding one low mileage was hard, ended up with a 07 Toyota Camry XLE V6 with navigation, has almost all the luxury features the Avalon has including those reclining rear seats and sunshade but the sunshade is manually done in the Camry

I've had my 05 XLS for about twelve years now. At 198,000 miles other than routine maintenance, I have zero complaints with this car! It is the most comfortable well mannered car anyone could ask for. I replaced all the spark plugs and coil packs at right around 100k and an preparing to replace them again here soon when it hits 200k according to my mechanic. I'm a big guy at 6'1 250# and this car has always hit all the marks on the comfort scale for me in terms of seat comfort and roominess. All in all you just cannot beat a 3rd gen Avalon! I swear they're gonna have to bury me in this thing! " It's the best Buick Toyota ever made! " I blong to an Avalon owners page on Facebook and I've seen some of these with up to 3 or 400 thousand miles. Mine's a keeper!

I bought a 2011 Limited as a 2nd car last year to replace my Passat which was totaled by a distracted driver. I agree with most of the positive comments; the seats are comfortable and the rear has tons of room. The reclining feature is also a treat to anyone who sits back there. Car has gobs of power from the V6 and easily gets up to speed merging onto the interstate. It's relatively quiet inside too, just make sure you run Michelin or other quiet tire. Interestingly enough, right at 100k, a lot of things have started to fail, some routine maintenance some not. Alternator went bad which fried the battery so had to replace both. Had to replace almost all the front suspension as it was rattling and clunking. Rear sunshade gear broke (common issue) so it made a horrible grinding noise. Had to remove the fuse. One of my proximity rear door handles stopped working as well as did one windshield spray nozzle. Literally all went bad within the same 2 months. Still, so long as the engine/trans last, I imagine I can drive this car several hundreds of thousands of miles more.

I can promise that even with its flaws. It would out last many of the new cars from the past 10 years 😆 I bet the Engine/Trans and AC will still work at 500,000 miles with proper maintenance. Tho maybe the 2013-2022 Avalons could be equally good but I do know Avalons are far superior than Camry's and Corolla in the Toyota Brand. Same with Lexus ES tho other brands will not even last 1/5 of what Avalon will.

2007 might have been way past the "heyday" of cassettes, But the "market demo" would be that the buyer LIKELY had some tapes. (I'm 60 in 2022, and thus now YOUNGER than the demographic that bought this car NEW, And even I still have cassettes that I play) The option is nice! Another "old man" note: Traditional automatics (on the column) had no "buttons". Nor did manuals (floor OR column). The Toyota way here is more like a column mounted autobox, but kind of "sideways". Not hard to get used to if you have used a column shifted automatic.

The funny thing is I sold my 2003 LS430 and I regret it. I missed that car so much because it was the most comfortable car I had and that's without the air shocks. Now here I am realizing that the Avalon is basically the same car and cheaper. There's similarities in the interior and the quality looks just the same

The "O' is in fact a replacement. I test drove a 2005 Lexus ES330 when I was looking at a new car, and it was relatively similar to this. I always liked the Avalon, and my favorite generation is the 2000-2002, but this is probably in 2nd place. I like the 2000-2002 because it has the old school Toyota feel, and the 2003-2004 facelift of the 2nd generation IMO was a horrible decision. The front grill got ugly, and the wheels were HIDEOUS. I also like the orange turn signal indicators vs the white ones. Anyway, if I got the chance to buy one of the 3rd gens, I totally would, although I would prefer an XLS or whatever the highest trim is that still has a key, because I much prefer that over push button start. Also, at 0:27, the 2001 Avalon makes a cameo, and the 2006 Monte Carlo you reviewed is right next to it.
