Well done! From a retired auto mechanic. That's a big driveway job but you have the patience which is paramount to get through to the end.

Thanks, it was a big one for sure. Many years of smaller jobs paved the way for this repair!
The good thing, these motors are incredibly easy to work on.
Dude this is gonna be sweeeeeet! My exact car and now I know how to do this job myself! Will not fear blown head gasket anymore!

Make sure you work within your means. Start small and work your way up. I didn’t learn to do this type of repair overnight. Experience and tools and preparation are key

@@GotterAdventure Yes that is the key... I am working my way up from small repairs and inspections to big jobs. At the beginning something like changing the drive belt or a brake job would get me scared... I'm scared that I wouldn't be able to put the thing back together and be stranded. Now I'm a little more confident and working my way up to something like replacing an AC compressor bearing or finding an AC leak. Hondas are near bullet proof cars tho so not much for me to work on... nothing breaks haha
Well done bro! I am no fear of head gasket now!
Awesome seeing you do this!
So impressed with this repair! If you can do this, you can do it all! One amazing video after the next! I hear you about the fact that you're not good at how to videos as you'd like to be but like anything else, if you want it bad enough then with time and patience you'll get there. It's an art of its own.

So am I!
Great video. Thank you very much!
Some manuals you show are for Tightening Sequence which should be reversed for removal. Generally, install starts from the center and works in a circular pattern outward. Removal is the reverse, start at the outside and work inward in a circle. Some brake clean and elbow grease would have taken off the mud. Also, torque is only for installation. Good video and I admire your patience.
Very impressive 👏 👌
This is the good video need to follow, I also need to replace cylinder head. I did timing belt change, causing no 1, 5 cylinder had no compression at all. Need to go to local junk yard, totally $150 for two used cylinder head for 2008 Honda odyssey.

I will have an update soon! I’ve got 80 miles on the motor so far!
What tires and rims do you use?
I seen a video where guy zip tie the belt to the cam pulley then slide the cam sprocket off the cam since it has a key, he was able to get it off and on back in the right place. Probably would work if you took the tension off. Always best to have your engine parts rebuilt I once bought a remanufactured Toyota 22RE engine to swap mine had 300k miles on it. It ran fine didn't burn oil, but every seal was leaking. The remanufactured engine was horrible the crank seals had grooves worn into them where the front and rear main seals were. My fly wheel fit perfectly on my old engine had to always use a puller and hammer it back on over the crank flange on the reman engine. Shop told me too he said I would not be happy with that engine he was right. I saved $400 in the end would have been much better off having my engine overhauled.

@@GotterAdventure The only other choice would be to buy the heads from Honda. The price probably be lot higher.
Wow, catching up on this weeks videos... this is above and beyond a head gasket replacement. What ended up happening with that reman cam?
@GotterAdventure

I had to put it in the old head and return it to get my core charge back. 200 miles later everything is running great. Hopefully the repair lasts a long time!
I’ve used the thick walled 19mm socket with an air driven impact gun. I ended up using an 8 ft breaker bar.
OMG!!! Excellent! I want to this so bad for my mdx… folks are just not being honest with me… I keep asking/saying i to replace the heads, gaskets. No one will help unless they say replace the whole engine… the block is fine and coolant isn’t mixed with oil, belts are good… mechanics only want $8000 😢😢😢

How much are the charging to replace the engine? I choose to replace the gaskets/heads for the speed of repair. I needed to be up and running for our Colorado trip. I this repair was still expensive.
Texas Honda channel does a bunch of j series stuff. He even supercharged his Honda Pilot.

I follow his channel! One day I might consider trying to supercharge my Pilot :)
What are some other common problems on high mileage pilots? I was 2000 miles away from home on a cross country trip when my head gasket started to go bad. Found a reputable and fair priced shop to replace it for me, but they're very busy and it's gonna take a few weeks, so I flew home and im gonna continue the trip later. My car has 283k miles on it. Recently replaced the timing belt, water pump, spark plugs, cleaned the EGR ports and replaced the EGR valve, replaced the engine and cabin air filters, coolant flush, rear differential fluid change, and replaced worn suspension parts

I had exhaust gas displacing the fluid in my radiator. You could see gas escaping from the radiator when the cap was off.
Great vid! Did you check if your block was true? Or were the new heads enough?

I didn't check because my repair was a hail Mary to get us to Colorado and back. I had less than 3 weeks to perform the repair. It is still holding
Hello My pilot 06 has a bad head gasket. Dealership says "replace the whole motor". I usually work on cars (fix easy stuff). Do you think I can do the job by myself without taking it to the dealership?
@GotterAdventure
2 жыл бұрын
I did mine myself. It took me approximately 6 days . The rear exhaust manifold was tough to remove, and there are a lot of steps needed to removed the heads. It is definitely possible though. I found them at various online stores. One came from Rock auto and the other AutoZone
Why I ask the IN/EX valve press leak, I went to junk yard, tested 3 cylinder head, Each head has valve leak. Mine have one EX valve leak on the middle one. Lapping it still see the bubble when air compress blow . I am still waiting for amazon can deliver a new rear head under $600, and free return. I will check each valve, I had crank engine missed fire , but never had issue when driving. may lose power.
Just noticed…are you running dual transmission coolers?

I had to do a bit of searching for mine. I ended up finding 1 at Rock Auto and the other at Online at Autozone.
I replaced two head gaskets were checked at the station and sanded after the replacement nothing helped she is tripping.
I didn’t see any torque specs for the heads, that would have been helpful here
Did you check the cylinder head valve if each valve hold good compression. New cylinder head from Honda dealer $695 12300-RDJ-305, How much did you purchase on those remanufacture cylinder head?

I haven't checked compression after the remanufactured heads were installed. I paid about $510 with a $100 core fee from www.oreillyauto.com/ I should be able to return the core to the store which is nice

@@GotterAdventure Thanks, I may just rebuild my heads. Looking like a few valves are leaky on my engine. Likely due to never being adjusted for 170K. Tends to stall when initially cold but seal up enough when the engine warms up to run just fine. Doesn't look too painful of a job. Already done the timing belt, radiator, and valve adjustment so I kind of know what I'm getting into. Not really looking forward to it to be honest.
R you a mechanic too?
