    In case anyone didn't already know, (I found this out the hard way) you only have that actuator under the steering wheel if you have dual zone climate control. If you have single zone climate control the only actuator that controls the temperature is on the passenger side to the left when you drop the glove box. I did not see anyone online talking about this, through a dozen youtube videos, forums, everything. I found out the hard way by taking apart my drivers side to find there wasn't an actuator there at all. Super big pain.

    Thank you! Mine's also a 2007 with single zone control and this has driven me nuts, glad I don't have to take apart the wrong side and yeah not a single video talks about this and they're all dual too...

    Wow that helped a lot thank you…. Then how did you get that fixed? did you just replace the passenger side actuator? Because I have 2006 impala and there’s no AC on driver’s side but it does on passenger’s side. You’re the first guy talked about it….! If you could anything that helps…

    I have my mom's 08 Impala she left to me to fix up for my son...it does this. Everyone i know that has an Impala says theirs does this! Mine will come on hours after its been driven...just walk outside at 2am at it'll be knocking. I'll be pulling this video up when I finally get around to fixing this. For now I'm elbow deep in a water pump replacement on my Buick LaCrosse and then it's on to a oil pressure sensor in the Impala. I do everything myself and so far I've been successful in every repair because of videos like your's! So thank you so much for taking the time to help diy-er Mommas like me!!! 😊😊😊

    This was a very well made video and helped me save a bunch of money on the repair. It is a shame that the part costs $15 and dealers and repair places want $150-$250 labor to install when it takes about an hour if you don't know what you're doing (like me!) I recommend you get a 7/32 socket and buy some thumb sockets in order to complete this project. So thankful for gracious youtubers helping the rest of us out! :)

It seem to be a common problem. I have a friend that had a 2006 it does the same thing. Thank you for the great video it helps tremendously, which you did All three. Saves me a lot of money. Thanks

    I have replaced the one on the drivers side and the right one on the passenger side twice. Good video. Went back to it again. My input since I have done the pass. side twice. 2013 Impala LTZ Someone posted remove the glove box. Worth the time in my opinion. A short/small 1/4" drive ratchet is a must. The screw is a hex head sheet metal style screw with either a 7/32" or 5.5mm head. I used a 7/32" socket and it was fine. I say get it started with the ratchet, get it a little loose, and then you can just use the socket and your fingers to finish taking the screw out. I think it is easier to unclip the electrical connector after you have the actuator out. Plenty of length on the wires to do that. On the other hand... I waited till the actuator was in before I hooked the connection back up for the install part. You will need to do this by feel.. and a good reference point is the electrical connection. You can get a sense of the screw location by finding the electrical port. I did take my old one apart and there was only very minor damage to a few threads. I found the main gear wheel that capture the door shaft VERY hard to turn. The grease lubricant was basically not existent in this location. It is summer and the car gets very hot in the sun. I suspect that the lubricant gets super thin because of the heat and just runs out. No lubrication and this parts starts to bind up. That is my theory. A better bearing surface would solve this problem. Good metal to good metal and a seal of some type. But heck that would probably add a buck to the manufacturing cost of the part.

    Great video and explanation. My only critique would be to take the glove box totally out, along with its encasement. 4 phillips and 3 torx 20 screws, then pull the hinge pins. 5 7/32 screws loosens the case. Pop the trim that runsalong the floor under the door and the triangular panel one the end of the dash. You can then bend the trim out enough to slide the case out from behind the trim. Sounds like more than it is, makes for much better access to the passenger actuators. Getting easily accessible parts out of the way almost always easier than trying to work around them. Jobs like this i always look around to see what the hell i can gtf outta my way.

    My actuators quit without warning and while ripping out the passenger right actuator I lost the screw in the carpet some wheres, went to Napa and various McAutoParts stores and found no exact replacement. You would think that buying premium AcDelco GM Genuine Junk the company would at least supply their actuators with a pair of screws in case a real technician lost one. I also took out the glove box because it gets in the way, for some reason Chevrolet thought it was a grand idea to use a collection of pozidriv and T10 torx screws to connect the glove box together. Can't even be bothered to design a fuel door that locks and opens from inside the cabin but heaven forbid if someone should steal my Aerosmith CD.

  • @SoirEkim

    @SoirEkim

    5 жыл бұрын

    Mark Ortega, ...hmmm. 🤔 Unless I'm wrong, the actuators are what guide the air to different areas throughout the ventailation system. If you don't hear a clicking it might be due to the actuator drive gear being in the void of the connecting gear. Assuming the connecting gear is stripped clear so the two gears don't touch. If this is the case, the clicking will be absent. The best way to tell is to open 'er up and find out. Let me know what the true problem is once you find out. If I'm wrong, I definitely want to know. Thanks, and good luck.

    That may be true in many cases. My connections were in good clean condition and mine still ran for a full minute after replacement. But maybe what you’re stating here is why. Thank you for the insight. Sorry for the late reply.

    Could this potentially drain your battery if left untreated? Any loud noise or vibration that passes by the car it triggers it and i can hear it clicking, even when the car is off.

  • @SoirEkim

    @SoirEkim

    Sorry for the super late reply… I wouldn’t be so sure it makes a difference. If the actuator is programmed to run for the full minute regardless of worn parts then the gears are just silently under continuous pressure which leads to the damage sustained by the plastic parts. This is only speculation due to my own experience with the issue regarding my now totaled and scrapped Impala.

  • @SoirEkim

    The clicking will run on the battery as the computer allows for the battery to feed power to the other systems for about ten minutes. However, the system has a low power shit off to preserve battery to allow for at least one start of the engine I allowed the clicking to run out for about two years and it never drained the battery.

I mean it's all bad as I had the car now for about a week I'm finding things out about it like how he cut the wires to the actuator in the glove box the one on the far left side I haven't had time to check out the actuator on the far right side in the glove box but the one that ticking really loud is the one behind the radio. At my local AutoZone they want almost 40 bucks a pop for each actuator F that I'm just going to pull them from the junkyard that way I get experience taking them out that way when I get home it'll be a lot easier just to put them in and if they last then great if they don't screw it I'll just spend the $40 a pop when you replace them did the AC and heat work instantly R did it take some time for it to recognize there's brand new actuators in it?

    That is really funny. I fought mine to get it on and laughed at myself thinking I should have made a video on how I did it but didn't want to take it off again. I replaced my cover once. The trick is to pull the edge then push the cover on. Yes, the cover needs to stretch quite a bit. Once you manage to get the cover on and the blood back into your fingers, adjust the cover by twisting it like bicycle handle bars. Looks like I'll just have to make a DIY vid to show what I mean. It was a struggle for sure! 😊 Good luck!

  • @SoirEkim

    @SoirEkim

    A brand new actuator should not be easy to move with your hands. If failing when plugged in there could be a bad fuse. The blend door the actuator attaches to should be clear to move from one position to the next with a simple twist with your fingers as shown here. Be sure the blend door it self is not obstructed by anything though this should not be the case. My dad had a car that mice nested in and blocked up his vents but I am not suggesting this is the same issue you have. Just felt like sharing. Sorry for the late reply. Arnie Gamez | Assuming you have replaced all three actuators. The only reason there would still be a clicking most likely because of gearing that pushes the vent down is bad. Short answer: Yes. Longer answer: If you are experiencing an annoyingly loud clicking when running the actuators then, Yes I would say so. Before unplugging an actuator but after detaching it from it’s place of install try running the actuator while holding the moving parts. If it doesn’t run at all you may have an electrical issue like a blown fuse. Easy to test this way though not so simple to uninstall. As always I do recommend getting a second opinion as every case may be unique. Good Luck.

    Which part wont go back in (the core or the connector)? If the core is giving you trouble try rotating the core on the actuator to help it line up. If the connector is giving you trouble check to be sure the pins are not bent. All three should come together equally as easily. If you are having trouble tightening the actuator try using a different ratcheting tool or even a one inch stubby. Trial and error but you will get there.
