2006 Ford Mustang How to Keep Stock Shaker 500 Radio Amps Working with New Head Unit
If you are replacing the stock Shaker 500 radio in your 2006 Ford Mustang (possibly others that use the Shaker 500 system) with an aftermarket head unit and want to keep the stock amplifiers working that power the subs in the doors, watch this. I used a Metra 70-5521 Radio Wiring Harness that has two plugs, one for the radio and one for the amps. This works for the 2006, not sure about any other years as Ford can change where wires are in their stock harnesses.

Same setup in my 2006 Mustang. What is unfortunate is the Shaker 500 woofer amps cannot be plugged in stereo. Since my new infotainment system doesn't have a subwoofer jack, I had to connect the subwoofer amps to only one audio channel (I think that's what you did too), so I lost the ability to have good balance control. Also, I need to kill as much bass as I can to get good equalization, but it sounds pretty good after all, and it beats having to replace all the components. I'll probably make a video eventually.

That would be great if you could do that. I bought a radio off Amazon and I believe I’m experimenting the same issue. The radio was plug and play and everything works great(I had the dreaded battery drain from the Shaker 500). But now the radio sounds good but no bass.
I have a radio and I now how to wire things up but I just don’t know exactly what harness adapter I need
The blue and white wire you have taped up with the orange wire is your remote turn on for the amp from the deck.
Can you please make a detailed video with instructions? Thank you!
Hi that was a great video. I’m having the same problem as you. My Shaker 500 in my 2006 Mustang GT was draining my battery (known issue) 0:25 so decided to upgrade to a plug and play head unit from Amazon Chinese head unit). I know it's cheap but this is an old car and I just wanted to solve the issue and get Apple CarPlay. So I plugged everything in and it worked great except my amplifiers in the doors aren't working. The company has been nice, but no help. They told me to connect the AMP wire to the ACC red wire, the problem is that 12v from the new radio, the Shaker amps runs on 5V. I purchased a 20$ step down adapter from Redwolf. I have the Mustang wiring diagram. The wire that powers the amp is green purple that plug connects the their plug, an antenna (blue) wire. Their plug has two blue antenna wire one above the other) I cut the blue antenna wire (that connects to the green/ purple)and connected the yellow wire from the adapter. Ground to ground and the adapter blue to the ACC red. Amp still doesn't work. I did not install their blue Amp wire from their head unit, should I? I thought that blue wire was for an aftermarket amp. Just so you know I didn't cut the second blue antenna wire and I will tape off the other end of the blue antenna wire I cut. Any thoughts would be appreciated! Great channel, I’m a new subscriber! Thanks Fred
Hey, here with a question. So with the Metra harness you have both RCA outputs, white and red, but where did you plug the white one into for the Shaker 500 system? My unit I have is Audio Out Left (white) Audio Out Right (red) Aux R In (red) Aux L In (white) Svb Woof (green?) I'm not sure which one to use because I have just the one white plug over the 2 outputs, or maybe I plug it into the green one?

If you have the green subwoofer output on your head unit, then use that. You are lucky to have that one as I didn't.
Can you link all the stuff where you got it ?

I found a converter on Amazon for under $10 😊
Do you know why there is 3 connectors. The main big one and the sub one but what’s the other one

Yup
Did you have any issue with battery drain? The wires to my 12v to 5v was loose on the ignition wire, checked the others just to be safe but was thinking maybe that was the issue

So far, no issues with battery drain.

Weird. Must be something else draining power. Fixed the wiring and all was good until this morning, woke up to it being dead.

I changed my Shaker because of power drain issue. Some people on forums say it could continue after, I hope not! If it does I’m gonna get a negative terminal kill switch for my car.

What my issue ended up being was the connection from my alternator to the battery was damaged I guess from age so it wouldn’t charge the battery sometimes. I replaced it and no issues since
the white rca is goes to aux in, or wich cable

If you have a subwoofer out jack on your head unit, it would plug in there. I didn’t have one so I plugged the white plug into one of the the head unit’s audio out jacks. Hope that makes sense.

That white plug is what exactly? I’m trying to find it on mine and I’m unsure. Thanks
