    Good video. Just curious, but where did you get the 0.030" spec for allowable warp on the manifolds? The factory service manual for my '03 Durango says 0.008" per foot. I tend to take warped manifolds to a local machine shop to have them planed. It's significantly cheaper than buying new ones.

    Did mine tonight and had stripped holes… so now I have M10x1.5 Chevy studs in there instead 😂. Almost swore two more holes are stripped but it held so it’s gonna have to do till I can take the head off to drill those out and tap them properly as the location will not allow it sadly.

    The engine was cold.......... On this vehicle, the broken bolts did come out easily, but given other factors, such as rust or corrosion, it may be harder on other vehicles......Side note: The head is aluminum and the bolts are steel. This may play a part in making it easier or harder.

    Permatex HI-TEMP,,,,,,,not recommended in addition to a gasket,,,,,BUT, in my case (I sanded the manifold by hand) I was paranoid and used the silicone gasket maker on the manifold side to fill in any uneven spots. Again, you do not have to use gasket maker in addition to a standard gasket,

  • @petrocksgarage

    @petrocksgarage

    3 жыл бұрын

    Its not something they can really fix. The head is aluminum, the manifold is iron, bolts are steal. Different metals heat up & cool down at different rates. So eventually the stress on the bolts from the manifolds expanding/contracting from many heat cycles will make them 'pop'. It's a problem that effects pretty much all cars/trucks.

    I personally believe the hardest part is removing them dang rivets off the liner. And i only personally believe that because two things: First: You conveniently skipped over HOW to remove the rivets and how to pop the new ones back in (And also failed to mention once you remove the plastic rivets their is no putting them back in because you need a new set as they arent made to be reuseable.) Two:I never did it before. Lol. because one look at the flat rivets and its obvious no tool can remove this.. Am i supposed to get a flat head and pry/break the bastards out?

  • @thingstoconsider5186

    @thingstoconsider5186

    5 жыл бұрын

    Sorry about that. I wasn't able to get a video of that part. But, using a pocket or small screwdriver, press into the center of the plastic rivet releasing the center plastic pin. Once this is done they will pull out easily. You can order exact replacements on ebay. But, you will need to order the plastic rivet gun as well.........I went to Home depot, taking one of the old plastic rivets with me, and used that to match size of plastic inserts (the kind used to hang things onto drywall) and used those as a replacement. The type that I bought came with screws. I do not remember the size though.

    @@thingstoconsider5186 ibappreciate your response! I was confused on the difference between your before and after. What sound am I supposed to listen for? That clickind sound that got eliminated? Also my dodge dakota burns oil. I had the exhaust manifold on the driver side replaced because it was warped but the day it was repaired THATS when I started to notice smoke and my constant need to top my oil every week or two never ceased. I hope you so a video on how to replace valve stems or seals I am not familiar with part names but the guy at smog says next time he wont pass me if I have the same issue. I have taken it to a mechanic shop and they tell me I have no problems-but tell that to the drivers behind me on the highway where you CLEARLY will see all of them driving so slow staying FAAAR back or others swerving lanes just to evade being behind me.
