2006 - 2011 8th Gen Honda Civic Emergency / Parking Brake Handle Replacement

This video will show you how to replace your Emergency / Parking Brake handle on an 8th Generation (2006-2011) Honda Civic.
In the video, I am replacing my broken handle on my 2010 Honda Civic SI but the handle replacement should be the same or similar for all 8th Generation Civic models. It's a fairly easy replacement once you see how I do it. Good luck and post a comment if you found my video to be of help to you, thanks!

This video was very straight forward and made the job so simple, that even I could do it! (To me, that speaks volumes!) The video was easy to follow and saved me big bucks from the stealership! Thank you thank you!!

From Australia - Hello, I went to the wreckers and had to buy the whole assembly complete with cable - cost $66.00 BUT I don't mind because your video now shows me how to fix what I figured would have to be a simple job considering the broken bit is plastic! Thanks sooo much simple and clear! Cheers C

@@GroovyAnthropomorph Yeah, every so often, when it's cold, my rears seem to lock up. I can tell just by when I release the emergency brake and when I feel the e-brake is too "loose", I know it means the brakes are locked. I just engage and disengage it a few times until I feel like there's some effort to pull the e-brake handle back up. That's when I know I'm good.

Peter, thanks for the vid. I found the replacement kit on AMAZON and put it on in what I thought was the correct manner, but it never fully clicked. I thought you were nuts for putting on the plastic shell first then inserting the slide/button unit and manhandling it into place. But when mine came loose for the umpteenth time, I did it your way. AND IT WORKED!!!! Thanks!!!

Thanks so much for the video. Very helpful. A couple other things I noticed. I'm thinking the release button is meant to be slid in BEFORE the gray housing is snapped on. I did it that way and didn't have the challenges you had inserting the button afterwards. Also, my gray clip (passenger side) broke exactly as yours did. When it broke, the small broken pieces of the clip fell down into the button release mechanism. I had to take tweezers down there to remove the broken fragments. Probably a good area to inspect before snapping in the new handle/button .

Ok so I just finished doing this to my car and I have a point to bring up in case anyone is worried or getting stuck. The way he is doing it is correct but the last step with the button is tricky unless you figure it out. The last step with the button gets tight and won’t go through because the tooth at the beginning that he was talking about for hooking in the top of the handle piece scrapes on the stalk of the button and keeps it from going in. You just have to put pressure on the button so you scrape through all of the plastic on the stalk of the button and then the button locks on the plastic inside the handle. It’s just a matter of putting pressure until it goes in. Thanks for the video!

For people who dont know, in the video, he used a flat head to poke that notch, but theres an identical one on the other side. For mine I had to poke one side and then again on the other side before it popped out. But nevertheless, great video! Thanks again!
