I like the way you think, them engines where designed to hold up with the stock bore size ,
That vee touch….. where is your shop located
If it were me i woulda cleaned up that big bore re surface and the hesd amd cylinder and bought a over size piston

That piston looks far from decent. Has scoring all over it. It was definitely time for a new top end
