2005 Southwick 250cc AMA Motocross Championship (Round 3 of 12)

Спорт

This is round 3 of the 2005 250cc AMA Motocross Championship presented by FMF from Motocross 338 in Southwick, MA.
Returning contenders like 2004 runner-up Chad Reed, 2-time runner-up Kevin Windham, John Dowd, David Vuillemin, Heath Voss, Michael Byrne, Nick Wey, Ernesto Fonseca, 250cc rookie and 2-time 125cc champ James Stewart, 2002 runner-up Tim Ferry, and 5-time defending 250cc MX champ Ricky Carmichael battle it out for the 2005 250cc AMA Motocross Championship presented by FMF. This series is dominated once again by Ricky Carmichael. After an injury ended his 2005 Supercross season, #27 Nick Wey makes his return to the MX series. Ricky Carmichael makes his 100th consecutive start at an AMA Motocross since his first 125cc race in 1996. Chad Reed wins his first 250cc moto of his career, which stops the 31-moto win streak from Ricky Carmichael, and marks Chad's first moto win since the first 125cc moto at Millville 2002. 1998 Southwick winner Doug Henry makes a one-off appearance aboard a YZ250 2-stroke. Local Massachusetts prodigy John Dowd scores his first overall podium since Southwick 2003 after telling Erin Bates in an interview that this Motocross season will be his farewell tour.
Enjoy.

I used to be number 11 Polisena aka Comacozie. 1976-1984, does anybody remember racing against me. 125 and 250cc amature class. Southwick was my favorite track. I was known to be the whole shot artist.

+Tyler Brennan You're very welcome. I have seen every Southwick race since 1997. I'm glad Southwick is coming back too, but I'm sad Kenworthy's (Troy, OH) is not ever coming back.

I don't doubt that. In 1999, Dowd got a 3rd place while there was pouring rain in moto 1, and he won this race on a 125 in 1998.

Was this the only time Carmichael got beat at the WICK in any Moto in the premiere class ?!!! I absolutely love seeing the National here!

No this was not. Carmichael would lose the first moto here in 2006 to a beaten and battered James Stewart (after 0 pts. at Mt. Morris). Ricky would win the overall with the moto 2 victory while James Stewart's engine seized on the last lap of moto 2 and he was credited with 11th place.

RC was a little over the handle bars when he looped out. But there's been some bad crashes over the years on that same little down hill. I believe Travis had a bad crash there.

mike p I agree -- Southwick brought out the man in you; it's too bad they couldn't come to an agreement to keep this track on the circuit. I had watched every race here going back to 1997.

23:23 Is he talking about RC? Uh, RC needed no help coming back to beat someone. He'd do that all on his own.

Perhaps, but I'd like to think Reed was referring to Supercross AND Motocross in general (like Atlanta earlier that year when Reed had the lead, and RC fought back to beat him).

Go back through the 05 races, im a big Stewart fan but 05 was the year of excuses, I was sick, dehydrated, the bike, my boots etc etc. They constantly left an excuse available for not winning. I get stewart was on the slower bike but this showed alpt of his character, pulled off alpt and had tons of excuses. Not used to actually racing and not being 20% faster than the rest of the field.

David Bailey said 2 stroke 4 stroke that doesn't matter? I beg to differ. 4 strokes had 30 percent more power or more. Twice the engine size for a 4 stroke.

That may be true, but it's rider rider rider all the way. Stewart was able to run Carmichael's pace and pass him at the last round in High Point before he made a mistake and crashed.
