This is round 4 of the 2003 Chevy Trucks 250cc AMA Motocross Championship from Motocross 338 in Southwick, MA.
Returning stars such as 250cc rookie Chad Reed, 2000 125cc champ Travis Pastrana, Stephane Roncada, Mike LaRocco, Ernesto Fonseca, Nathan Ramsey, Ezra Lusk, 250cc Motocross sophomore Sean Hamblin, 2002 MX runner-up Tim Ferry, Nick Wey, Sebastien Tortelli, Larry Ward, David Vuillemin, Kevin Windham, Kyle Lewis, John Dowd, and 3-time defending champ Ricky Carmichael battle it out for the 2003 Chevy Trucks 250cc Motocross Championship. This series features a season long battle between Honda riders Ricky Carmichael and (the rejuvenated) Kevin Windham. This is the rookie 250cc Motocross series for Chad Reed and Ernesto Fonseca, and also features the return of Kevin Windham after injuring his femur at the 2002 Atlanta Supercross. Ricky Carmichael goes for 18 consecutive overall wins after sweeping the 2002 Motocross Championship, and his 4th straight Southwick win to match Jeff Stanton's 1989-1992 record. 3-time Motocross champ Doug Henry makes a one-off appearance in the hopes of keeping his national #19, but is involved in a moto 2 pileup, which knocks him out of the race. Check out 250cc moto #1 to see Stacy Henry (Doug Henry's wife and mechanic) give out a very unique sign and scream which gives color analyst David Bailey a few laughs, too.

I was there Southwick was going nuts for Henry and Dowd some serious competition back in these national days

Lucky you. I followed the races on ESPN2 and SPEED through the years, and Henry and Dowd appearing at Southwick just seemed "normal" to me. Henry did really well in the first moto only to crash out of moto 2, and Dowd getting on the podium overall was always a sight to see.
Stoked to see all those riders in one day... Phenomenal fitness and performing-arts and family

Dowd probably had 10years on the rest of the riders on the KTM. Henry is just plan all out awesome I think he was also on a 2 stroke I was surprised to him there 2003.Seen these two go at it at middleboro on the off season when they first started racing the AMA series.Two great racers.

Yeah, you're probably right on Dowd. Henry was certainly one to talk about that season. Unfortunately, the second moto ended pretty sour.

You're very welcome. Hope you will see more of my other races I've posted. Unfortunately, I closed my vault of races about 11 hours ago after posting the remainder of the 2011 450cc Nationals.

Did anyone notice how Rickey had to overcome the massive HP difference with the 4strokes? And he still beat them! Had Ricky had a 450 it would have been a joke.

Hard not to notice that. Ricky was even talking non-stop about Windham on his 450cc bike. Why Ricky stayed on his CR250R I don't know, but I agree -- if Ricky was on a 450cc, 2003 would've been another perfect season, but on the other hand, with Windham coming back from his 18-month absence, it might've been slightly tougher for Ricky to get a perfect season, but he did jump on a CRF450R for the 2004 Nationals and swept the season again. To this day, even though Ricky won the championship on his CR250R with 15 moto wins out of 22 and 9 overall wins in 11 races, I still wonder why Ricky didn't jump aboard a 450cc then -- Chad Reed jumped on a YZ450F at Millville after not having much success on his YZ250 2-stroke all that summer, and Reed's results improved, though he didn't win any motos.
Did anyone else notice that Chad reed sign his autograph on a white number 4 Ricky Carmichael hat at 2:28 ?
