2005 Nissan Altima, Rear Door Will Not Open, Broken Lock (Part 2 of 2)

Some Nissan's have a bad habit of having their electric locks or lock assembly fail, which means you could end up with a door that pretty much can't be opened.
In a previous video (Part 1), I showed how to remove the rear door panel without requiring the door to be opened, but did not have a solution for fixing the actual issue. In that video, I just got lucky and the door finally unlocked itself.
In this follow up video, I may have found a solution for everyone. At least for those where the lock assm may just be gummed up and not releasing. This may also be the same resolution for the broken electric lock actuator.
Here is the link to Part 1 that shows how to remove the door panel without being able to open the door. • 2005 Nissan Altima, Re...

Aye man. If it wasn't for this video I would have taken it to my buddy's body shop. Definitely had to be patient with the wiggling of the plunger. 4 years and still helping people out.

So Glad I opened my search from 2004 Nissan xterra to Nissan. Found this video! The key was the two cables going to the inside door handle. Though my cables were solid(first generation?) setting them to the proper position along with the child lock being off. Thanks as its been a few years.

Thank you for sharing this video. The lock mechanism on my 2005 Nissan Altima has been not fully unlatching when I unlock the car with the fob. This is the front driver's side door. The latch actuator is functioning; however, the door will only open about an inch and is hung up on the latch. I have to push against the door to latch it again and hit the fob to unlock and try again. Sometimes, I have to repeat this a half dozen times. I just ordered and received a new latch and am at the point where I removed the old one and moved the actuator over to the new latch. My greatest fear is just how much anguish I am going to experience reconnected the control rods that come down from above. As you show, these are in a blind spot deep in the corner. Your video is a good start for me to try and get the latch connect back up to those linkages.

If the power locks don't fully unlock, that's likely the actuator assembly. They seem to last about 100K miles. I believe I replaced all of 'em at least once. If it's the actual lock mechanism that hooks over the striker bar (discussed at the 06:00 mark), I'm not sure on that that. It might just be gummed up. The front door lock assemblies are pretty easy to get into, compared to the back doors which are more cramped due the placement around the wheel well.

I got the same problem with rear left door on my G35S SEDAN. I open the door panel with the door stuck shut and got my hand between and slide inside to manually open the door. Once the door open. I remove the door panel. I am at this stage. The plunger cable has problem. When i push on the lock mechanism, the door handle (inside) does not turn. I dont need to remove the rear seat.

Thanks for the suggestion. I updated both this video and the previous one to indicate there is a Part 1 and Part 2, and included the respective links. I also updated the titles and keywords to match. Hopefully this will increase the videos' SEO when people are looking for this info.

Thanks for the detailed video. The rod on my front door 2005 Altima came off when taking the old door handle off. Wasn't sure how to refit the rod from the door handle back into the blue part. You said you were able to reach in and feel and install it.Other video shows you have to take off the door lock ( 4 bolts ) Hopefully I can try your method now that I know how the rod goes in. Thanks again excellent video.

Thanks for this having this issue with my daughter car. So do you think it's still necessary to replace the actuators? Don't think they cost too much so might be worth just replacing them while I'm in there.

I am going to try that trick on my 06 Altima. One day it didn't open and I have been wondering how to fix it. The same happened to my old 1999 F250 and 2001 F150 with extended doors, not the crew cab. Out of nowhere stopped both doors to opening.

Child lock worked fine. That's probably what kept me from figuring this out in the first place when it happened months prior. That's why I called it out at the 1:05 mark, at 2:09, and again at 5:08.
