I have an 05 STS4 1sg love that car! Put V fiberglass hood on, platinum grill, sequential side markers on front fenders, bbs rs wheels, euro spec tail lights, swapped all wood on dash and shifter for aluminum and chrome, even took aluminum trim off first gen cts v and put on my sts. Oh and my V8 N* has 160k on the clock and has been perfectly reliable, my 05 deville has N* also and has 150k and has never had an issue…

You know people say the 3.6L V6 is garbage and that it’s trash and stuff but I’m gonna be honest, I drive my 3.6L like it’s a v8 and nothing bad has happened.

I own the 2006 Cadillac STS 4.6L Northstar LH2 which is the most reliable engine that Cadillac have ever made. The problem with the 3.6L V6 is a big one. It always eats it Timing Chains. Cadillac 3.6L V6 has always been pure GARBAGE. It may not have broken its timing chain yet but trust me it will.

Yep, totally agree my 09 CTS is down due to timing chains twice and this last time caused proper engine damage at around 165 000 km or about 100k miles. My 06 STS with the NorthStar has original chains and head gaskets was abused by previous owners and has 250 000km or about 155k miles on the odometer.

I’ve heard that northstar engines that are hooked up to rear wheel drive cars are easier to work on them FWD northstars.

The 4.6 v8 engine is actually what you want with the sts, the 3.6 v6s are worse reliability wise, you should have done a Google search atleast and you'll see that the v6 is known for timing chain issues. The v8 are actually more reliable plus there wasent any known issues with the v8, the older northstars just give it a bad name because if the headgasket issues so most people assume they are unreliable

That feature to turn off the air up front for the passenger was a pretty cool feature I must say. When ever I ride places with my girlfriend during the summer weather I'm usually running the AC pretty high and she would just have to close the vents on her side, but being able to turn it off altogether would of been a cool feature to have for that scenario. And nice review as always! 👌

Nice review, however turning the passenger side “off” does not turn the climate off for passenger it just turns off dual. When the passenger side is off it will just match the drivers side climate setting

I have one of these with the V6. I had the timing chains replaced at 75k miles - also had a wicked front crankcase cover leak. After those were resolved, it turns out to be a decent engine. However, I would most definitely have the Northstar over the V6, just because it makes a Cadillac, a Cadillac.

I have to disagree with the statement that the technology wasn't there yet. The STS was available with a 15 speaker sound system, a 7" touchscreen with TV function, headunit-integrated 6-disc CD changer, a separate DVD drive for the navigation system which could be used to watch DVDs or listen to DVD audios, Bluetooth telephony, magneride suspension known from the Corvette C6, Brembo six-piston calipers (only STS-V in US, also included with every STS V8 in Europe), adaptive cruise control, head-up display, three-zone climate control and even rear heated seats. Starting with MY '08 even blind spot assist was available.

Timing Chains were allegedly changed, at about 120,000( I think someone in the service Dept, swapped my motor for a Friends worn out engine, as after the chains were allegedly done the engine suddenly was losing coolant by the Stat Housing, and it made a lot more noise after sitting overnight on start up.
