2005-2009 Mustang Power Seat Track Replacement

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

In this video I'll show you step-by-step how to remove the power seat track in your 2005-2009 Mustang and replace it. You should plan for about 3 hours for the job. It's not difficult, there's just many steps. The hardest part is getting the C clip out from the backside of the tilt lever. You'll need some patience. There's no special trick to get it out, just determination.
If you're interested in the clip puller tool I used in the video here is a link where you can find it:

    @3V Project, if you're just removing the seats it's a breeze. You can get a seat out in about 5 minutes.

    Went to Ipick upick(use to be u pull it), there’s a seat track for $40. Going to get it today…hope it still works. Mines won’t go up, and I can’t sit that low. I really don’t like driving my car right now. 40 is worth the risk because a new one is like 750. Smh

    Hey at the beginning of the very helpful tutorial, you say disconnect the negative terminal. But at the very end of the video you say hook up the positive terminal. Am I missing something? The rest of the video was very clear. Thanks!

    @Dave Forrestel, nope you didn't miss anything. In fact you caught an error on my part. You should always disconnect the positive battery terminal, not the negative.

    Spencer, glad it was helpful. Ford should be ashamed of themselves for designing a system where the seat motors cannot be replaced.

    you did not mention the recline lever removal or the airbag connect going up in to the seat back. Was that a difficult thing?

    Hi Could you please till me what are the functions of the front switch is? I know the other one is for moving the seat front and back. The front switch does nothing ???

  • @DIYJeff

    @Parbhu Manga, The front switch, if I'm understanding your question correctly, is for lumbar. There is a mechanical device in side that pushes the seat out and retracts it in the lumbar region. I'm not sure if every power seat mustang has that feature, but I would imagine they so.

    Hello Jeff, thank you for sharing for the instruction with us! I have a few questions if you don't mind me asking... 1. Would this video work on 2011 mustang? 2. My driver seat's front part won't go up and down, but I do hear the motor moving when pressing the switch. What would you think would possibly be the cause and is completely taking the seats apart necessarily? Again, thank you so much for taking your time to read this and the help, Jeff.

    @Metronome Senpai, I'm not sure about the 2011-2014's. They are still the S197 platform, but they changed things about the car starting in 2010 and a lot in 2011. Best way to know would be to look up the part number on a 2005-2010 and see if it's the same. It's possible they used the same power seat setup. Like I mentioned in the video, if it's a motor problem, this is the only solution. The motors are not replaceable. And you definitely have to take it all apart. You're not going to want to buy a new one....they are super expensive. Junk yard seems to be the best option I've found. But beware, even the junk yard one may not last long. I've burned through 2 of them. They're just old cars and the design is awful for performing any maintenace on them.

    BIG QUESTION Here.....Why didn't you just unbolt the existing Seat Frame from the Seat Track?!?? It looks like its only 4 bolts.....and then re-bolt to the replacement seatframe withought taking apart the bottom of the seat?? Wouldn't it have saved a lot of time??? Thanks for your video and comments. I'm about to do this to my 2007 Mustang... ;)

    Thx for the video! Believe it or not, BOTH my power seats ('07 GT) gave out within 24 hrs! Weird. Question though, I have leather seats. Do you know if the material removal is the same as with the fabric? Before I start chopping it up it would help to know. If you don't know, that's ok. Mechanic will do them for $3K. Would rather DIM.

    Hey, sorry just seeing your question. I don't know if leather is the same, but given that ford is using the same seat structural parts regardless of leather or fabric, my guess is they are the same.

  • @DIYJeff

    @DIYJeff

    @Ultimate Tune, the problem is that the track is assembled in such a way that you can’t change out individual components. Believe me I tried. Of course you can order it and try, and maybe you could do it, but I saw no way to do it. Ford doesn’t sell these components individually because the track is not serviceable.

    @@DIYJeff I would understand that maybe for safety, I did take a part before but not to repair it so can't remember how was it build. Anyhow I have a problem and bought full seats and saw this video as I was going to do full replacement as you did 👍🏻

  • @DIYJeff

    @DIYJeff

    @Kris Kutscher, on the S197 mustangs, the frame and track are all one piece. The seat frame and the track are inseparable. Every step I showed in the video is the exact process. I didn't skip any steps.
