2004 ZX10r Part 8. It's nearly ready. A few final jobs and then the all important suspension setup

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The ZX10r is nearly ready! Dave fits the final pieces and then puts a suspension base setting in the bike by setting the sags and low speed dampers.
It' fair to say that maths isn't Dave's strong point though!!

    Since I have no clue about suspension setup, I decided to shamelessly copy (steal) your settings. And you know what?? The bike is absolutely amazing now! Awesome, thanks mate😀👍

    I have the predecessor, a Y2k E1 ZX9r, I found the easiest way to adjust the suspension as a novice to the process was to set it all to the factory settings, which are set for a person of about 68kg if I remember correctly. You just then need to go a bit stiffer if you are heavier, or softer if you're a kid 😄You then just test it out, and adjust a little more if you feel it's needed. Only thing other than the exhaust that I'd change about this basically new ZX10r, would be to fit clear indicator lens', I feel it makes these older bikes look just that little bit more modern. I done the same on my 9r rather than change them to flush mount on front and small LED's on the rear as others do, and I removed the H-frame too.

    Loving he subliminal messages... completing suspension set up next to a bike with "sag" as a registration plate in shot. 🤣👍🏼 Another great start to my Sunday.

    I enjoyed this project. Excellent. I have a 04 zx12r. I have a message in to bitubo because they don’t list valves for the 12. Would love to get some better feeling out of them. Ktech makes a cartridge kit. Might be a nice option. Thanks for the outstanding series on the zx10 Henry

    I’ve got an 2005 that I’m rebuilding Dave, I’m so Glade you’ve made theses videos on this bike, at the moment I’m in the process of putting the mid inner fairings on. My goodness do you know exactly what brackets are needed to put the inner mid fairings on the ones with the blinkers on it?. Also found out my right tab on headlight is broken where everything pinches together. Just problems Allday lol maybe I can fix if not gonna have to buy a new headlight because of 2 broken tabs. Expensive I see. I have so many questions. I want the bike to be perfect.. I wish I had a picture of the oem rear wheels spacers. Previous owner had rigged things together. I don’t know what’s correct and what’s not. I’ve read diagram and manual back to back. No real clear info or pictures. I see axle nut on left side. Then some bikes have axle nut on right side? Any reason. I need to hire you for a day or 2 lol

    Great bikes, fairing is a pain! Doesn't matter which way the spindle goes but the rear wheel spacers do matter. Mine is tucked away or I'd go and check for you! Getting the chain run correct is definitely important!!

    Great to see suspension setting explained in this way ... Nice and simple.... I always damp front rebound a fair bit more than compression to load the front more quickly and slow the reduction of front load once breaking has ended.... Do you think this is good practice ?.... Thanks 👍

  • @obsession_engineering

    @obsession_engineering

    2 жыл бұрын

    Not really. If you have too much (or too little) of either rebound or compression damping it will reduce grip levels. If you're mid corner and close to the limit of grip, every little bump compresses the suspension, if it doesn't recover well (too much rebound) the wheel will either be unloaded as the wheel is off the floor or the mass of the bike will have to move to keep the wheel loaded. So you end up with the whole bike either riding too low as it cannot recover it's geometry, or you've crashed as the tyre has no load. I don't recommend either of those things, so I try to run fairly minimal damping, so the suspension is controlled, but actually letting the bike and the wheel work correctly. If you want to keep the front loaded on corner entry, I'd trail brake or at least not dump the brake off. Hope that all makes sense

  • @stesrad

    @@obsession_engineering yes made perfect sense ... knew there was the downside to excessive damping but thought it was desirable to have more rebound damping than compression ..... Seems not especially with the effects you describe in doing so which I thought would only come into play with more excessive rebound damping .... I will back It off a bit ...Thank you 👍
