I got 150,000 miles and still going strong on my 2004 mazda3 2.3 hatch. Rusty brake rotors, A few failed motor mounts, and a roasted blower (AC/heat) motor were the biggest problems I encountered. Overall, still a very healthy car for it's age.

I have the 2006 Mazda 3 S Sedan and I absolutely love my car. I picked it up used in 2009 at 32k miles and kept it well maintained. To this day friends and family who haven't seen it before can't believe the features I have (heated seats, Navigation) for a 2006 car. Steering is tight, sporty features, low maintenance you name it. It really does everything better than the Civic. I refuse to recommend any other 4 cylinder car.

I love my 2.3L 04 Mazda 3 to bits. It is definitely a sporty enthusiast's car. If he/she wants to do some tuning to it then its worth it. Pretty easy to work on, all ready peppy as is, and sounds excellent for a 4cyl with a cat/res delete and a Magnaflow Muffler. My issues are only the usual rust around the rear wheel wells. But the body will go long before the engine...also tuning parts for it are pricey.

yeah i was just about to buy a honda civic last november of 2015 but really disliked the handling of the vehicle...i ended up with 2004 mazda 3 gt 2.3 hatchback. really good control and goes really fast when took it out on the racetrack. but obviously for downfall, for any fast car if you speed or race, it will eat lots of gas

How would the Toyota Matrix GTX 2009 model compare if fully loaded? I guess mostly it's from the technical standpoint that I'm wondering about.

  • @1982blvd

Typhoon792 I've tested my sister's Toyota Matrix GTX 2009 and it does not compare with the Mazda 3. The steering and handling on the Mazda 3 is way better in my opinion. Mazda 3's are also known for very good accelerations, something you will notice when you test drive one.

aspec82 Yeah, the handling on the XRS sucks! (Btw, I meant XRS - not sure if you meant the same. GTX is for the Pontiac Vibe.) Ironically, the "improved steering" that they make for the top model (along with other things) only make it worse. It's actually nicer/better imo on the S model version.

Erik Staal Super happy with this car, doesn't feel like it's almost 12 years old, it still looks modern (I own the hatchback, silver/metal). Confortable interior and well equipped. Transmission feels great. Have to get some new suspension and a CV-Axle which is getting a pretty noisy and needs to be changed. Other than that the car is in top condition, very reliable. Smooth engine, has some good power when revved up.

I purchased a 2008 Mazda 3 for my daughter in 2009. The gas mileage is horrible and maintenance is expensive. There is always a problem with the tire pressure. Normally, there's a problems with the Tire Pressure Monitor Sensor (s) (TPMS). Sometimes when she purchase new tires the individual replacing the tires forget to reinstall the TPMS. The TPMS cost more than one hundred dollars at the Mazda Dealership, expensive. There have been several recalls on my daughter's Mazda and the dealership made the necessary repairs without any problems. The Mazda may be great cars for some people, however it's not a car for us. Therefore, my daughter and I have decided to never purchase another Mazda.
