2003 Chevy Tracker Oil Pan Gasket Replacement

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

A bad oil leak set in motion a series of gasket replacement jobs on the Tracker. The first of those jobs being the replacement of the oil pan gasket. There's plenty of things to take into account in the execution of this job since we don't want to have to go back in this thing to correct mistakes.

You might got oil all over everything but on the bright side you don't gotta rust proof the Tracker at all no more...🤣🤣🤣 Btw when mine had a similar issue it turned out to be the valve cover gasket and the issue stopped once I replaced it.

I've got a '99 4-cylinder. Gotta change the oil pan gasket soon 🙄 I'll change the rings later, but I don't really wanna have to 😩

I had to rebuild a spare engine for the trackers, thought it would be a pain but it wasn't as bad as I thought, especially after I found some online documentation with all vital info.

Did you have to disconnect the transmission to jack up the engine?

No I was able to get enough lift with everything still connected, had to watch the coolant tube though so it isn't stressed too much that it'll compromise the o-ring on it at the back.

Hey buddy what size are the block you use for the motor mounts? and was the big a 4x4? I have to do the same job too and I'm stuck on taking out the oil pan. Thank you.

If I remember correctly I either wedged small pieces of 2x4 in place just enough to hold everything but the 2nd go around I cut a couple pieces of pallet boards that are probably 3/4" thick and stacked them for each side where I could get them wedged deep under the mounts and brackets. I had to drop the pan a 2nd time to replace the oil pump, that vid will be forthcoming.

I also found that I couldn't jack the engine up too much as the fan hit the shroud and the coolant tube at the back started getting stressed more than I was comfortable with. Once the engine was up though the pan came down enough to get my hand in to remove the oil pickup which then allowed me to get the pan all the way out after turning it sideways

@@jackofalltrades2980 Thank you very much sir super appreciated your time to give me some advice on how to do it. Was it easy to take the oil tube in the pan? the one with 3 bolts ?

@charlieibkiss4068 it wasn't too bad, I just worked the pan to one side and used a 1/4" drive ratchet amd 10mm to get one bolt then tipped the pan the other way to open up the other side to get to the other. The bracket bolt to the rear was easy to reach from either side.

@@jackofalltrades2980 What type of glue did you use to hold down the gasket in place? and how much would you say you lifted the engine? Sorry if I'm asking one too many question but don't to jack up anything in the process of doing the oil pan removal. Thank you.
