2003 Buick GSX Review
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Hello everyone! Welcome back to the channel for another car review. In this video I'll be featuring a 2003 Buick GSX. The GSX was one of the most special muscle cars from the 1970's and this 2003 version is a modern reinterpretation of that model. I'll take a detailed look at the exterior and interior of the GSX, take it for a drive, and give my thoughts on the vehicle. A big thanks goes out to my Dad for helping me make the video, but a bigger thanks goes out to Larry Swint for letting me borrow his beautiful GSX. I hope you'll enjoy the video!

The 3800 supercharged is such an underrated reliable engine. The “W-Body” GM cars are great, I have Allure/LaCrosse and it’s been fantastic

Bought my wife a Buick 2019 TourX with Turbo 250 HP all-wheel drive. Not a bad little sleeper wagon. She gets tons of remarks about what it is and how nice it looks. It's nice to see these rare models being well cared for. Ours is garaged and will be kept like new.
The sticker on the filler door is not an indicator that this was modified by SLP. The supercharged 3800, regardless of platform, required premium fuel.
I was unaware of this 2003 Buick GSX. Really enjoyed your video! And congratulations for the 5K subscribers James! 👍 What’s next?
still have my 2003 GS that my high school son now drives. Has ZZP high ratio rockers, headers, PCM tune, CAI, 3.4 pulley and makes about 315 HP. It now has 180K on the clock and still runs great and gets 28 mpg driving 75+. Love that car.

Good job James. Congratulations on 5k viewers!!! Woo hoooo! Well deserved. Take care. Cheers from Houston!
I loved my century. Columnshift & benchseats baby! But the styling of these cars does something for me. The rear end is slick.
James, first and foremost I have to say, I loved that filming location, it was very appealing! Your history on the GSX brand was awesome, from how well spoken you are, to your inserted graphics! Your camera work is getting so refined, for example, I loved how you had the horizontal shot of the inside of the trunk lid and then twisted the camera to make the sideways sticker right side up for the viewers; very smooth and very nice! I still love your traditional shot of opening the door when showing the interior, and yes, most 1990s and 2000s cars had very cheap, plastic interiors, GM being among the worst. You're just not used to a non luxury car, being a Cadillac guy, and was more disappointed than the typical person would have been! 😂 As usual you're very thorough, informative, honest and entertaining. Awesome job and thank you for another great video!
Nice car, excellent camera work 👍🏽
No, the GSX did not stand for Grand Sport Extras. It stood for Grand Sport eXperimental. Just like the 1987 Buick GNX stood for Grand National eXperimental.
Great review!
Need a 04 indy impala ss review after this
Even the "Stage 3" is pretty tame on these cars. Use the Impala 9c1 swaybars (with poly bushings & HD end links),& rear trailing arms, KYB AGX struts, 18" rims & tires,Voegtlin progressive rate springs (Eibachs sag in the rear), and rear strut brace. Tighter, better handling with the ride staying the same until you start pushing. Powertrain? Comp Cam kit & fully hardened push rods, TBC stainless headers with Stage8 fasteners & Remflex gaskets, Mahle pistons with Speed-Pro rings, Clevite bearings, double roller timing chain (which removes the CR balance shaft & necessitates a very precise balance of the rotating assembly), high volume oil pump, MLS head gaskets, ARP fasteners, an air-to-water intercooler, 3" S/C pulley, ported & polish the M-90, Northstar throttle body w/isolator... Transaxle? Triple Edge kit, large input shaft, GM Performance drive chains & an LSD diff... The trunk spoiler? Mick Jones from SoCal Customs made the originals for the yellow GSX show car in '98 My Regal GS has that as well. I bought the car straight from GM & it was a PGA show car. Still have it
Great job, James. Really incredible car! I think I'll keep it.

Great engine even in basic non-modified form but SLP did some great work , definitely. A nice touch would have been an analog Boost Gauge either in the dash or on the A Pillar.
Never knew of this car, well kept secret from Buick, great review!.
I had a '98 GS almost like this one. Thanks for taking me down memory lane! Never knew they made this one later. A bit fancier than the one I had but that engine was defiantly a sleeper.

excellent 👍👍👍👍👍
Very nice!! I don’t have the GSX but I have the 2003 GS which still has the supercharger and definitely holds its own.
Interesting information offered here. I noticed @ 6:30 into the video it is mentioned that the engine Buick used in these cars the 3100s came supercharged. That would be erroneous data for the 3100 cars as a rule of thumb. The 1997.5-2004 Buick Regal LS would be offered with a NA 3800 where the same year Buick Regal GS would be offered with the 3800 Supercharger. 2003-2004 I believe were the only years that SLP were involved in making the "GSX." There is a GM 3100 (3.1L MPFI Engine) that did see boost, however, those were not supercharged but turbocharged and were pretty rare to come across. That 3.1 liter would be the same engine found in the Cavalier Z24, Pontiac Grand Prix, the Chevrolet Lumina EuroSport...etc. The boosted version of this same engine could be found in only 2 to 3 cars I believe. The Pontiac Grand Prix from the early 90's and also on one of the most rare Pontiac Trans-Am GTPs in the early 90's. I don't know everything about everything for certain, but I had hoped to present a chance to introduce those who might be interested in a boosted 3100 to find one. Check out Classic MotorWeek on youtube and you can find the cars with the 3.1 MPFI Engine that came boosted with a Turbo. Love the channel btw, keep it coming!

The 3100 was in the 97-04 Century, when it was built on the W body platform. It was basically the same car as the Regal at that time, but with the smaller engine and base suspension. The Regal of this body style had the 3800 sometimes with supercharger
Sick intro. Subbed so quick i broke my damn mouse
I love the sound of these engines.
When that supercharger started whining the hairs on my neck stood up!! Sweet car!!
I freaking love this cars, GM really nailed it at the time.
While I might prefer my Buicks a little older and a little larger, this is still an awesome car! Buick was still making some great machines back... has it really been twenty years? @@Scientists_dont_lie I have a loaded 97 Riviera. Even the loaded version is missing a bunch of features compared to this GSX or even a Pontiac Bonneville. That said, the styling is fascinating. It's a "love it or hate it" design, but if you can get into the sculpting is really interesting. The chassis is much stiffer than the W body GSX but it weighs more too. I think it's the best car to get the SC 3800, but it isn't the best for ultimate performance because of the weight. It can be modded to perform well, but there's always going to be the weight penalty.
That car is beautiful
Monsoon sound system! Looks like it has cassette and CD. My 2003 Passat GLX wagon had a Monsoon system as well. No sub but sounded great to me.
The car is beautiful. I once owned a 99 regal GS (supercharged) Great car. I wish I had another one. Cause there were performance upgrades for the V6( #1 Pulley, #2 Flash the ECM, #3 U-bend exhaust delete) in order to get some good horsepower.

For some reason my 30 year old daughter just loves Buicks, she is on her 3rd, 1 Buick Lucerne and 2 Lesabres. I believe The original GSX stage 3s had the highest torque (510) of the muscle car era. I remember looking at that car. They were overpriced and ugly, I did kinda like the interior though. Decided on the Kia Stinger gt awd. Same price point back then, think I paid 36k for mine. Stinger has been nothing but reliable and a joy to own. It's funny cuz the Stinger is kinda "rare" in my area but that 2020 Buick Regal gs is even rarer. Literally have only seen 2 since 2020. The one I looked at back then and 1 on the road. They are more a 🦄 then this Regal gsX was back in the day.

Very good video production and info, but I question the fuel fill door sticker as being SLP origin. Buyers could have a Regal GS from GM with the supercharged 3.8 which would also require premium fuel. So maybe not on that detail. Especially if this was a Regal LSX from SLP (this cars N/A sibling). The N/A would not require premium fuel even with the SLP conversion. Also surprised you didn’t mention the factory performance shift feature button on the shift lever! Regardless, thanks for the video and hats off the careful owner!!!!!
I have the rear slp exhaust cutouts on my GS and the SLP Stage 3 badges as well. Only thing I couldn’t buy was the grill they are hard to find now. All the SLP stuff is hard to come by now. I bought the last set of cutouts from SLP on eBay. One correction is the supercharger is on a 3.8 not a 3.1 the 3.1 is in the Buick century the Ls is a 3800 NA engine. But nice video cool to still see this car again.

I’m a GM person I didn’t even know about this particular version of this Buick…. I know SLP being associated with Pontiac… nice 👍 to know
I'm glad you mentioned the gear shift knob. When I first saw it I thought "Good Lord what is that thing?" It is not very graceful looking. Also, it's a shame neither GM nor SLP didn't put a little more effort into sportifying the interior; maybe make it a little more worthy of GSX name.

NA 3.8 series 2 is the best engine every made. SC 3.8 isn't too far off. Extremely rare that you hear of internal failure on a 3.8
@jrcars7017
9 ай бұрын
I've always heard the opposite. The plastic intake manifold on the NA motor can warp and cause coolant leaks, the SC motor has a metal intake manifold that doesn't have any issues. I'm not aware of any flaws with the SC motor, other than the plastic elbows in the coolant system. But if they're changed with the heater hoses, that shouldn't be an issue. Car Wizard put it right - best engine ever made, for the money. If you have the money to maintain a Ferrari V12, you probably aren't too interested in the 3800 SC.
I needdddd it. I wonder how many were made I’ve never seen one for sale
it’s September 2023 and i drive a 2017 Camaro SS 6sp manual transmission as a daily D. Our family car is a 2019 Buick Enclave CXL 3.6. I would love to add this to our GM Family car lineup. i’d totally rock this as a daily driver. but gotta admit that exhaust sound test he did sounds absolutely horrible. i would mid it to have a single 3” high flow cat back with no resonators and a tube classic style muffler out the left side. smaller diameter pulley mod, add a intercooler if possible, get a SLP cam since this is a true pushrod V style motor! Gotta love GM. Also kinda useless fact here, FY 22&23 GM rated higher build quality and better fitment and finish was higher than Toyota and Lexus sedans. crazy!! i’ve always admitted that Toyota is the best made vehicles on planet earth and durability and longevity always was owned by Toyota. even tho my family are GM lovers for life. gotta give props to Toyota the Japanese are true masters at everything they do! besides winning wars Lol. 🇺🇸 🇯🇵 = ❤. Love the car. However I believe they should have built an SLP Riviera. Its a coupe it has a hard top so it didnt have the door "frame" (I dont know what you call it, but in the riviera, when you opened the door, you didnt have the "TOP PART", just the bottom of the door). Yeah a Sporty SLP Riviera would have been amazing. The Riviera is the best car that had this SCharged 3800 in it. Also they should have added the HUD in the Regal and Riviera like the GTP had.

I agree that the Riviera was the best car to get the 3800 SC. Been saying that for a while! It isn't hard to "roll your own" performance Riviera. You can do better than SLP for less money. No fancy badges though. The Riviera didn't have all the whiz-bangs it should have, but a loaded Riviera already cost as much as a base Corvette. It's still an amazing car if you're impressed by things like reliability, reliability, and more reliability. It also has great styling (IMO, not everyone's) and was pretty quick for the time. I really think it's one of the best 90's cars to own, if you like the styling.

The GSX 1/4 times were reported low 14’s
One thing I always hate about specialty cars is he badging they put all over them. Best speciality car ever was the 1969 ZL1 Camaro for few reasons. 1. It’s a first gen Camaro the best ones. 2. The mighty all aluminum 427 which truly made over 500 hp stock. 3. Absolutely no badges and looked like a v6 car exactly what you want when you actually bought the baddest muscle car ever made imo.

My 2002 Regal GS has something the GSX doesn't have and that is black interior. Its a Joseph Abboud version. I have never seen another Regal of that generation with black interior and its also black on the outside. All of them have gray interior. Have a new crate motor from Summit racing dynoed at 329 HP. 60 to 100 MPH is almost scary. The weak link in these cars is the transmission input shaft. Its easy to snap it in half. When I swapped out the engine I installed a beefed up input shaft from Intense Racing
