I just bought an Sc 430. And tried the ECT power mode. It’s a different animal. Much more power. Shifting more sporty Steering wheel more in sport mode. Excellent change!!

These automobiles are absolutely gorgeous and will last one the rest of their life. I am the proud owner of a 2008 Starfire Pearl exterior/Ecru interior with 6,000 original miles on it. They are SO over engineered. Quality and smoothness. Such a classy convertible.

I disagree with the video assessment of the performance of the sc 430. It is fairly powerful IMO. It has a power button on center console with acts like sports mode. It’s peppy 0-80mph. But it shines above 80mph. Definitely feels like more than 300hp. I’ve added 8.5inch fr/9.5inch 275/35/18 rear wheels. And handling is GREATLY improved. Very satisfying cornering. This car is a classic!

Agreed. The back of the car, the low-slung nature of the top - I have always thought the car was the most beautiful Lexus (up until the LC500).

Nice review. The issues with the wind and seat noise are not typical. At least from my experience. Plus, these kinds of issues probably can be repaired at a Lexus dealership. Lexus definitely stands behind their cars. I own a 2004 SC with 53k on the odometer and it's a terrific car at all levels. Incredibly reliable, and solid. It's a Lexus after all. Usually, if the ride is a bit harsh on the SC's it means that the front bushings need to be examined and probably replaced. Also, the "check engine" light was on in your car -- and that's not good. Odds are, that the timing belt and water pump need to be replaced. This is mandatory with the SC's at 90 thousand miles or 9 years -- which ever comes first. The SC430 and LS430, as someone else pointed out, are not the same kind of car. In fact, IMO, I find the SC to be more of a "Grand Touring" kind of a car instead of a "Sport Coupe." Also, some people have often referred to the interior as "Bentley" like. And, I would agree with that view. It is certainly a luxurious automobile that I feel will age very well. Especially compared to its European counterparts. I own three cars, a Toyota Tacoma, a Mazda Miata, and the SC. So, if someone wants a "roadster," then buy a Miata because there is nothing that will put a smile on your face like a Miata. But, if you want a very reliable, luxurious, and ageless grand touring kind of a car. Buy the SC.

i own an 02 sc430 and I get no wind noise from the inside or seat noise, other then my car having quite a bit of miles the previous owner took really good care of it,

I have one of these cars.. just took it out of storage the other day.. its funny im here lol,, anyways its been just over two years of ownership. Its always a looker on any day. It's a weekend car only 1400 miles on mine since having her. Anyways to anyone thinking of getting one, dont think, get it! Its NnOT a sports car.

Man, you are timeless just like that SC430.

I initially felt the same way- ride was uneventful but it was quick and fast enough. The dependability kind of did it for me. I like the look and future collectibility of the Pebble Beach editions. So I bought it. It looks great- I do get people stopping me to tell me how great it looks. It’s definitely not a “me too” car. It is very rare to see another one a stop light next to you.

It sounds like you may have figured it out, but the trunk cover is generally in place on a cabriolet (or does Lexus call theirs convertibles, or roadsters?) to indicate where you can still stow items without them being crushed by the hardtop. I'm assuming you can only carry what will fit under the cover when the top is down. If your shop has an ozone generator, popping that in the car for a couple of hours will remove smoke smells, and even works on mildew and that's even what crime scene cleaners use to get rid of dead body smells from vehicles!

After market centre caps , they came with a big round centre cap known as the dinner plates but a lot of people hate them

It was definitely this particular car. Find a nice 06+ Pebble Beach model. These cars come with standard run-flats which make the ride terrible. Swap the tires out for something proper and the ride is great! Add an aftermarket exhaust and the V8 sounds incredible!

I just bought a 2002 Pearl White with white interior. I've had it about 3 month and I love EVERYTHING about it. No wind noise no issues, the previous owner did the timing chain deal so my dealer said I'm good for at least 70k miles. I bought it for my 60th birthday present to me from me.

A manual really doesn't fit this car's ethos at all in my opinion. I think the LC is more grand tourer than sports car.

I got 2005 with 52k miles love it since day 1

Owner of 2003 sc 430 and I can testify that this car is trouble free! Only routine maintenance. Motor mounts at 100k. And shocks all around in its 17 year life span thus far.

To close the audio cover, push the button while the car is running.

Before reviewing the car it would be helpful to learn enough about it to do it justice.

Look at driving the 06 or better that’s when they redid the suspension and several other tweaks took off the runflat tires. Also those were standard rims from 2001 2005

Interior seems very advanced for the time as well as all the equipment The stlye of the interior also looks very good looking and how it's laid out Can mistaken it for a 2006 and will still look new

The car you're testing probably has run flat tires, would be the reason for any ride quality issue. Air sound from it being a convertible isn't typical with this car either.

Great video, I have been looking for one of these to buy as a summer toy. There is only one for sale in Scotland atm :/

I’m not sure what’s causing the noise but my ES from the same generation has worn weatherstripping on the driver’s door and that attributes to extra road noise (but my car also has 260k miles). Also I’d check the motor mounts on that car too because they might be cracked or broken.

Sometimes using a product like Shin-Etsu silicone lube (made for lubing sunroofs, etc.) will help restore rubber seals enough to make them quiet and seal up again. Just wipe the white gel all along the seal to coat then remove excess until it appears clear. You can get this stuff at Honda dealers or online, Lexus probably offers a similar product or the same even.

I really wanted one of these back in the day, these are sooooo cheap now

Not necessarily so. The SC's with low miles are still commanding high dollar amounts. You can find SC's that have been beaten and not taken care of for around 8-15 thousand here in the U.S. Well taken care of SC's can fetch up to high 30's. I saw one last week with less that 10k miles on it for 45 thousand. Reality is, whatever the market will bear.

@@BullyCanadian I'm in the UK 🇬🇧, prices maybe different in USA, but you can purchase from a dealer with less than 80k on the clock for £8k. There are plenty on autotrader. Even if you went all the most you can spend on these in the UK is 16k, that gets you in 09 with only 30k on the clock

I’m glad I got the 2002 !!

they did suspension upgrades in late 2002. the seat is too far back and hitting the rear seat making a rattling sound. move it forward a bit. the cover in the trunk is to assure you are not trying to put the top down with a full trunk. the cover has to be in the rear position (out) and for the top to work. it's that car. with good shocks the car rides and handles well. and, the 2002 model had a bad suspension. mine is smooth and quite. but it only has 55,000 miles on it. good shocks fixes the body roll. and, mine was whisper quite inside. that's why i put a magnaflow exhaust on it. it was too quite.

Looks like a really bad example. Owner beat the crap out of that one and was poorly maintained. I drove a 2009 and it was awesome.

My 2008 SC has. No Wind noise. Very quite. I think its just the one your driving. 2006 and up made suspension revisions, and much more. :)

Love the car but don't understand why it's so heavy at 4500 more like suv gs470 or lx470

Noise?.sounds like a badly kept Lexus, one can't compare the Lexus ls 430 to a 2 seater convertible? 2 completely different beasts.

Wind noise makes it impossible to watch. Stopped after 1 min. Next

This was the worst possible review! Why not get a little familiar with the car and then do a review? To close the cover for the sound system controls, after starting the car, why not just press the button below the opening? The “Tonneau” cover as you call it, is to protect the hard top, when in the retracted position. The center console has two separate compartments, the lower one is lockable. The storage additional compartment at the back of the center console is for compact discs stowage. The wheels are stock and the fact that the center caps do not have the Lexus logo, is curious to me, every SC430 that I’ve ever seen has the Lexus logo on the center caps. My 2005 model, has the Lexus logo, so maybe the earlier models don’t? For God’s sake, wipe down the engine compartment, before doing a review. The car was not washed and detailed? You might want to do that before your next review. The Mark Levinson sound system is standard on most Lexus cars. The engine and transmission behaves identically to the LS, because it’s the same engine and transmission. The wind noise that you’re experiencing, is not typical for the SC430, at least not from my experience. Just to let you know, creaks and rattles can be fixed and yes you can always find a way to fix these problems. I don’t want to be too critical, but judging from the lack of cleanliness of the interior, this vehicle was not well loved or maintained during its lifetime.
